The goal of this study was to assess the degree of consistency in the performance of human children and capuchin monkeys on a manual detour test and on a computerized equivalent. Because computerized testing is more common in comparative research, it is important to determine whether a computerized version of the detour problem can provide measures of general inhibition that align with measures obtained from the same subjects when given a manual version. We found that human children and capuchin monkeys approached both tasks very differently and also that there was no correlation between the manual and the computerized task within each species. This suggests caution is needed when considering one format or the other when the goal is to use a single task to provide a general measure of inhibitory control.Out of the total 2600 myxozoan species reported so far, Thelohanellus Kudo, 1933 is the second most prevalent genus comprising of about 150 species after Myxobolus Butschli, 1882 infecting both freshwater and marine fishes. The present paper deals with the study of a novel Thelohanelloid T. neocyprini infecting gills of Catla catla and species complex among the member species of Thelohanellus genus from the Indian subcontinent infecting gills, fins and muscles. The species forming species complex are T. rohitae, T. catlae, T. jiroveci, T. seni, T. bifurcata, T. dykovae, T. neocyprini, T. filli, T. muscularis and T. theinensis. The phylogenetic analysis was also done on the basis of 18S rDNA. The homogeneity was found to be between 90 and 99%. The factors responsible for the species complex could be phylogeography, host reluctant, organ and tissue specificity of the these myxozoan parasites. Study of more genetic markers facilitated with morphotaxonomy can be used to sort out the occurrence of species complex among the morphologically different species having similar genetic makeup and vice-versa.Annexin A1 (AnxA1) is an anti-inflammatory protein expressed in various cell types, especially macrophages and neutrophils. Because neutrophils play important roles in infections and inflammatory processes and the relationship between AnxA1 and Candida spp. infections is not well-understood, our study examined whether AnxA1 can serve as a target protein for the regulation of the immune response during fungal infections. C57BL/6 wild-type (WT) and AnxA1 knockout (AnxA1-/-) peritoneal neutrophils were coinfected with Candida albicans or Candida auris for 4 h. AnxA1-/- neutrophils exhibited a marked increase in cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), phosphorylated extracellular signal-related kinase (ERK), p-38, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) levels after coinfection with both Candida spp. A lipidomics approach showed that AnxA1 deficiency produced marked differences in the supernatant lipid profiles of both control neutrophils and neutrophils coinfected with Candida spp. compared with WT cells, especially the levels of glycerophospholipids and glycerolipids. Our results showed that endogenous AnxA1 regulates the neutrophil response under fungal infection conditions, altering lipid membrane organization and metabolism.Multidrug resistance due to the expression of extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) by bacterial pathogens is an alarming health concern with huge socio-economic burden. Here, 102 bacterial isolates from Wastewater treatment plants (WTPs) were screened for resistance to different antibiotics. Kirby-Bauer method and phenotypic disc confirmatory test confirmed the prevalence of 20 ESBLs. Polymerase chain reaction-based detection confirmed 11 blaCTX-M positive bacterial isolates. Genotyping of bacterial isolates by 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed the dissemination of blaCTX-M in Escherichia fergusonii, Escherichia coli, Shigella sp., Kluyvera georgiana and Enterobacter sp. The identification of a novel inhibitor of CTX-M-152 from a natural source holds promise for employment in the control of bacterial infections.In this study, we report a novel indigenous Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) isolate, T26, which showed spores and crystals under scanning electron microscope and pathogenicity against the pink bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella Saunders) in artificial diet based bioassay. SDS-PAGE analysis of the spore-crystal mixture of the Bt isolate, T26 revealed presence of three major protein bands of approximate molecular weights of 80, 55 and 40 kDa. The draft genome assembly consists of 56 scaffolds with an entire draft genome size of 5,054,095 bp. NCBI blast analysis revealed that assembled draft genome is spread over in a chromosome (4,818,543 bp) and one plasmid (235,552 bp). NCBI Prokaryotic Genome Annotation Pipeline (PGAP) showed presence of 5033 coding gene sequences and 159 RNAs genes. None of the known lepidopteran active genes (cry1, cry2 and cry9) could be detected with PCR or with whole genome sequence analysis using Bt toxin scanner tool or CryProcessor tool. Thus, presence of protein crystals and toxicity towards cotton pink bollworm and absence of any known cry/vip/cyt type of genes in draft genome indicates it is a novel type of Bt isolate.
