The sensor takes advantage of the high adsorption capacity of ZIF-8 toward H2S gas and the H2S-triggered SERS spectral changes in the low-wavenumber Raman-silent region. A clear SERS peak of Au-Br at ∼175 cm-1 generated from Au NBPs@ZIF-8 showed a decrease in the presence of H2S because of the competition of adsorption sites between Au-S and Au-Br bonds. Furthermore, Au NBPs@ZIF-8 can enrich and monitor the level of H2S gas with high efficiency and low interference. The developed sensor has a detection range of 0.2 nM to 20 mM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.17 nM. The developed sensor had been applied to detect the H2S gas released from the spoiled fish meat with high selectivity.Dendrimers, notable for their well-defined radial structures with numerous terminal functionalities, hold great promise for biomedical applications such as drug delivery, diagnostics, and therapeutics. However, their translation into clinical use has been greatly impeded by their challenging stepwise synthesis and difficult purification.To circumvent these obstacles, we have pioneered a self-assembly approach to constructing noncovalent supramolecular dendrimers using small amphiphilic dendrimer building units which can be easily synthesized and purified. By virtue of their amphipathic nature, the small amphiphilic dendrimers are able to self-assemble and generate large supramolecular dendrimers via noncovalent weak interactions such as van der Waals forces, H bonds, and electrostatic interactions. The so-created noncovalent dendrimers can mimic covalent dendrimers not only in terms of the radial structural feature emanating from a central core but also in their capacity to deliver drugs and imaging agents folecular PAMAM dendrimers for biomedical applications. Specifically, we start with the introduction of dendrimers and their synthesis, focusing on the innovative self-assembly synthesis of supramolecular dendrimers. We then detail the representative examples of the noncovalent supramolecular PAMAM dendrimers established in our group for the delivery of anticancer drugs, nucleic acid therapeutics, and imaging agents, either within the dendrimer interior or at the dendrimer terminals on the surface. Some of the supramolecular dendrimer nanosystems exhibit outstanding performance, excelling the corresponding clinical anticancer therapeutics and imaging agents. This self-assembly approach to creating supramolecular dendrimers is completely novel in concept yet easy to implement in practice, offering a fresh perspective for exploiting the advantageous features of dendrimers in biomedical applications.Although metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising materials for gas storage and separation applications, the heat released during the exothermic adsorption process can potentially negatively impact their practical utility. Thermal transport in MOFs has not been widely studied, and among the relatively few reports on the topic, MOFs have either been assumed to be defect free or the presence of defects was not discussed. However, defects naturally exist in MOFs and can also be introduced intentionally. Here, we investigate the effect of missing linker defects on the thermal conductivity of HKUST-1 using molecular dynamics (MDs) simulation and the Green-Kubo method. We found that missing linker defects, even at low concentrations, substantially reduce the thermal conductivity of HKUST-1. If not taken into account, the presence of defects could lead to significant discrepancies between experimentally measured and computationally predicted thermal conductivities.Time-resolved, resonant X-ray sum-frequency generation in aligned selenophene molecules is calculated. A wave packet of valence-excited states, prepared by an extreme-ultraviolet pump pulse, is probed by two 12-keV X-ray probe pulses resonant with the Se core-excited states for variable time delays. At these hard-X-ray frequencies, the angström wavelength of the X-ray probe is comparable to the molecular size. We thus employ a nonlocal description of the light-matter interaction based on the minimal-coupling Hamiltonian. There are often questions about the impact of exposures on a range of birth defects, but there are few rigorous approaches for evaluating these associations. Using maternal smoking as an example we applied a phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) approach to evaluate the impact of this exposure on a comprehensive range of birth defects.

Cases were obtained from the Texas Birth Defects Registry for the period 1999-2015. A total of 127 birth defects were examined. Maternal smoking at any time during the pregnancy was ascertained from the vital record. Data were randomly divided into discovery (60%) and replication (40%) partitions. Poisson regression models were run in the discovery partition, using a Bonferroni threshold of p < 3.9×10
. Birth defects passing that threshold in adjusted models were evaluated in the replication partition using p < 0.05 to determine statistical significance.

Four birth defects were positively and significantly associated with maternal smoking in both partitions cleft palate, anomalies of the pulmonary artery, other specified anomalies of the mouth and pharynx, and congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. Obstructive defects of the renal pelvis and ureter showed consistent negative associations. All five defects exhibited significant dose-response relationships.

Data were stratified according to four stages of life (<30; 30-45; 45-60; >60years old). Validity and reliability were assessed by using standard statistical methods for SECRET

Overall, 295 patients (98.4%) filled all the questions. SECRET
showed a high level of internal coherence (Cronbach's alpha coefficient ranged from 0.85 to 0.97) and reproducibility (paired sample t-test at Test-Retest p>.10).

Ankle-foot problems have a considerable impact on daily functioning in patients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (hEDS/HSD). Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify alterations in multi-segment ankle and foot kinematics during gait and assessing foot function and pain in these patients.

Twenty-three women with hEDS/HSD and 23 healthy controls participated in this three-dimensional (3D) gait analysis. Multi-segment ankle and foot kinematics were collected using the Ghent Foot Model (GFM) and analyzed with Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM). Foot function and pain were assessed using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)-scores, the Margolis Pain Diagram, and the Foot Function Index (FFI).

Levels of pain and foot dysfunction were significantly higher in subjects with hEDS/HSD (p<0.001). Kinematic curve analyses provide evidence for a hypermobile first ray, represented by a significantly increased eversion position of the medial forefoot during stance phase (p<0.001) in subjects with hEDS/HSD compared to controls. In addition, significantly more dorsiflexion was found in the medial and lateral forefoot and the rearfoot (p<0.001). At the midfoot an increased plantar flexion (p<0.001) and at the level of the hallux a decreased dorsiflexion (p=0.037) and increased inversion (p<0.001) and abduction (p=0.016) were found in subjects with hEDS/HSD.
