Pathophysiological consequences of focal non-convulsive status epilepticus (fNCSE) have been difficult to demonstrate in humans. In rats fNCSE pathology has been identified in the eyes. Here we evaluated the use of high-resolution 7 T structural T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and 9.4 T diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) for detecting hippocampal fNCSE-induced retinal pathology ex vivo in mice. Seven weeks post-fNCSE, increased number of Iba1+ microglia were evident in the retina ipsilateral to the hemisphere with fNCSE, and morphologically more activated microglia were found in both ipsi- and contralateral retina compared to non-stimulated control mice. T1-weighted intensity measurements of the contralateral retina showed a minor increase within the outer nuclear and plexiform layers of the lateral retina. T1-weighted measurements were not performed in the ipsilateral retina due to technical difficulties. DTI fractional anisotropy(FA) values were discretely altered in the lateral part of the ipsilateral retina and unaltered in the contralateral retina. No changes were observed in the distal part of the optic nerve. The sensitivity of both imaging techniques for identifying larger retinal alteration was confirmed ex vivo in retinitis pigmentosa mice where a substantial neurodegeneration of the outer retinal layers is evident. With MR imaging a 50 % decrease in DTI FA values and significantly thinner retina in T1-weighted images were detected. We conclude that retinal pathology after fNCSE in mice is subtle and present bilaterally. High-resolution T1-weighted MRI and DTI independently did not detect the entire pathological retinal changes after fNCSE, but the combination of the two techniques indicated minor patchy structural changes.

The aim of this study was to summarize literature data regarding the anatomical and functional outcomes, and intra- and postoperative complications of this technique with minimally invasive approach (laparoscopic/robotic).
Systematic literature search using MEDLINE/PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science.
Two authors extracted data on baseline characteristics (age, BMI, prior pelvic reconstructive surgery, preoperative POP stage), perioperative outcomes (operative time, estimated blood loss, intraoperative and postoperative complications, admission time), objective and subjective success rate, surgical failure, time of follow-up. Data were presented descriptively.
Thirteen studies were included in the review. The overall number of patients for our analysis was 1066. Patients referred for laparoscopic/robotic lateral suspension were most frequently postmenopausal, aged 50 to 65years, BMI≥25kg/m2; 22.2% were already hysterectomized, while 17% had already a previous POP surgery. Operative time ranged from 78.4±29.7 to 254±45min. The overall anatomic success was more than 90% in the apical compartment and more than 88% in the anterior compartment. Subjective cure rate varies from 78.4% to 100% in medium-term follow-up. Post-operative complication grade >= 3 according to Claiven-Dindo Scale was 1.03%. Mesh erosion rate varied between 0% and 13%.
Results coming from our systematic review suggest safety, efficacy and feasibility of minimally invasive lateral suspension with optimal anatomical and functional outcomes. Well-designed, randomized, controlled trials are required to confirm this data.

Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injury (OASI) is associated with significant morbidity in the form of pelvic floor dysfunction, both in the immediate period of healing and long term. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of urinary, anorectal and sexual symptoms arising from OASI within 6 weeks after delivery at their first physiotherapy appointment (immediate postnatal) and 3-6 months after delivery following completion of physiotherapy (intermediate postnatal). Symptom prevalence were compared between the two time periods and the impact of pelvic floor physiotherapy analysed to determine any changes in symptomology.
This prospective observational study, conducted at a tertiary teaching hospital, involved completion of a paper questionnaire by pelvic floor physiotherapists at the immediate postnatal review and by consultant gynaecologists at the intermediate postnatal review. Data were then compared to determine changes in symptoms using Fisher Exact tests and Mann Whitney U tests.
Of the 131 urinary symptoms after delivery but does not have the same impact on faecal incontinence. Further investigation is required to confirm if early anal symptomology may be a predictor of long-term adverse outcomes.

The review aims to collect the data of the last decade on liposome protein corona, tracing the path from interactions of individual proteins to the effects mediated by the protein corona in vivo. It offers a classification of the approaches to exploitation of the protein corona-rather than elimination thereof-based on the bilayer composition-corona composition-molecular interactions-biological performance framework. The multitude of factors that affect each level of this relationship urge to the widest implementation of bioinformatics tools to predict the most effective liposome compositions relying on the data on protein corona. BPIV-3 infect the bovine respiratory tract causing from subclinical infections to severe pneumonia with significant economic losses in the cattle industry. BPIV-3 is a RNA virus with high genetic variability, nevertheless, the contribution of recombination events to its variability has not been assessed so far. In this study the 25 complete genome sequences (CGS) reported so far and 215 partial sequences of different viral genes of BPIV-3 were analyzed to determine their genotypes and subgenotypes, distribution, and the existence of potential recombination events. Based on the analysis of the HN, M, N, and P genes one hypothetical subgenotype was found (subgenotype A4). Four recombination events between sequences of swine and cattle were detected by RDP4 analysis in conjunction with phylogenetic incongruences in the L gene. In addition, 9 sequences reported from Argentina were found to be miss-classified. These results reveal that homologous recombination events have a relevant role in the evolution of BPIV-3 and highlight the importance of implement advanced molecular characterization to better understand the variability and evolution of BPIV-3 as a component of BRDC.A growing body of evidence suggests that immune factors that regulate osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption might be promising therapeutic agents for the treatment of osteoporosis. The expression of CLCF1, an immune cell-derived molecule, has been reported to be reduced in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis. This suggests that it may be involved in bone remodeling. Thus, we explored the functional role of CLCF1 in osteoclastogenesis and bone loss associated with osteoporosis. Surprisingly, the administration of recombinant CLCF1 repressed excessive bone loss in ovariectomized mice and prevented RANKL-induced bone loss in calvarial mouse model. Likewise, the addition of recombinant CLCF1 to RANKL-stimulated monocytes resulted in a significant suppression in the number of differentiated osteoclasts with small resorption areas being observed on dentine slices in vitro. At the same dosage, CLCF1 did not exhibit any detectable negative effects on the differentiation of osteoblasts. Mechanistically, the inhibition of osteoclast differentiation by the CLCF1 treatment appears to be related to the activation of interferon signaling (IFN) and the suppression of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Interestingly, the expression of the main components of IFN-signaling namely, STAT1 and IRF1, was detected in macrophages as early as 1 h after stimulation with CLCF1. Consistent with these results, the blockade of STAT1 in macrophages abolished the inhibitory effect of CLCF1 on osteoclast differentiation in vitro. These collective findings point to a novel immunoregulatory function of CLCF1 in bone remodeling and highlight it as a potentially useful therapeutic agent for the treatment of osteoporosis.Cementum is a mineralized tissue that covers tooth roots and functions in the periodontal attachment complex. Cementocytes, resident cells of cellular cementum, share many characteristics with osteocytes, are mechanoresponsive cells that direct bone remodeling based on changes in loading. We hypothesized that cementocytes play a key role during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). To test this hypothesis, we used 8-week-old male Wistar rats in a model of OTM for 2, 7, or 14 days (0.5 N), whereas unloaded contralateral teeth served as controls. Tissue and cell responses were analyzed by high-resolution micro-computed tomography, histology, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining for odontoclasts/osteoclasts, and transmission electron microscopy. In addition, laser capture microdissection was used to collect cellular cementum, and extracted proteins were identified by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. The OTM model successfully moved first molars mesially more than 250 μm by 14 days introducing apoptosis in a small number of cementocytes and areas of root resorption on mesial and distal aspects.
