3 Wheeler Buggies
A three-wheeler is perfect for rough terrain, offering an easy ride for your baby. They are also simpler to push and manoeuvre than a four-wheeler and are especially suitable for those with fabric slings or seat units, which are positioned tightly in the frame and deliver the best design and weight distribution.
Stability
Three-wheeled buggys are extremely stable, which makes them an excellent choice for off-road walking (especially when they are equipped with a seat that is all-terrain or off-road). These buggys often have oversized front tires that can handle bumps, kerbs, and rough terrain. Some models even feature a lockable front tire to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.
It's worth bearing in mind that 3-wheel buggies can have a lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled models which means that they fall over more easily. However, the most reliable 3-wheel pushchairs have perfect geometry and engineering to ensure that they remain solid in all conditions. They should be able to turn at a whim and be able to be controlled with one hand. They also have an incline of 360o for the front wheel that makes them ideal for maneuvering over difficult terrain.
For extremely difficult surfaces you should look for an air-filled model also known as pneumatic tyres, which are made to handle non-paved tracks and should cope with rocks, mud, and more. A majority of all-terrain buggies come with a swivelling front wheel that can be locked to increase stability when working on extremely rough terrain too.
A tri-wheeled pram is a great option for runners and those who love to speed up the hill. This is especially true if you plan to connect to a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent model. It has the flat-reclining seat, 5-point harness and plenty of storage space to store all your equipment (plus a 50+ extendable sun hood). It's light, compact and suitable for babies and can be used with the use of a car seat or carrycot. It can also be used for light jogging, however, it isn't designed for serious runners.

If you are seeking a buggy that can take on difficult terrain, you should choose one with big tires. They will be able to handle cobbles, grass, and dirt tracks and provide the smoothest ride for all passengers. They're also ideal for jogging since they're equipped with suspension and are simple to get up and down kerbs. However, they're quite heavy to push.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the best 3 wheel buggy you can use on rough terrain (pictured above). The 3-wheel buggy comes with 16 rear wheels with an swivel wheel lockable to the front which makes it very maneuverable. It has air tyres, which do need occasional pumping and it can be used to carry children until the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the shape of the seat, and she found it easy to steer with her 3-year-old on the board.
The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another great option. It has an adjustable handlebar, a top-quality hood that provides 50+ UV protection, and a high quality hood. It is also easy to move kerbs upwards and downwards, and can fit into small car boot. It can also be used as a pram that comes with a carrycot or infant car seat for newborns and toddlers.
Fabric sling seats are tucked within the frame of the buggie instead of over it like modular seats. This model has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the perfect height. It is easier to push, and lighter to kerb-pop (you cannot underestimate how many times you will do this as a new parent!).
Seating
The capacity for 3 wheelers is impressive, and there are a number of different options to pick from. For newborns, there is the option to use the carrycot and (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cozy and comfortable lie flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy) In addition, older babies and toddlers can use the parent or world-facing seat that is large and padded, and comes with adjustable ventilation. The seats don't fully recline, but they can be adjusted to the lowest position. This should allow your child plenty of room and headroom.
A sling seat made of fabric is also available, which has the advantage of being set snugly inside the frame instead of on top like the modular seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity and perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push particularly over bumpy terrains or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath loved the way that this style of seat handled these challenges.
This kind of buggy comes with an enormous basket, along with other features that are useful like an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal, and a few innovative lights for visibility which can be put on the front of the passengers for improved safety on difficult terrain.
If you're searching for a single baby buggy that can expand with your family There's a brand new sport(tm) that is the first in the world to take a single infant from the moment of birth and adjust to take 2 or even 3 once your baby has grown in the space of one buggy.
Stores
The 3-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable and stable to push one handed and is also ideal for handling difficult terrain. However, it also means that the basket won't hold as much as a four-wheeled buggy.
A high-quality ATP will feature pneumatic tyres with a padded grip for comfort and excellent suspension. It will also be equipped with car seats and a carrycot which means you can use it from the moment you are born.
MFM's reviewers have noticed that the 3-wheeler frame doesn't pass through all doors of their homes or small car boots - make sure you know the dimensions of the buggy once it's folded prior to purchasing if you're worried about space.
It's worth looking into an SUV with three wheels that can fit 2 (or even 3!) seats once your family grows - these are the most efficient of both and will help you save money in the future. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most sought-after. It can be used from the day of birth as a single buggie and later transformed into twin buggies once your baby starts to walk.
Tyres
Air filled tyres are made to give your child a more comfortable ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. They are typically found on pushchairs like the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also noted that the grippy tyres on the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easy for her to navigate the kerbs as well as other obstacles.
They can be difficult to maintain and will require having their air pressure maintained regularly. They are also more prone to punctures than foam tyres so you'll need to make sure that you have repair kits along with a spare inner tube and pump on hand when you are traveling with your buggy.
PU tyres can be seen on more pushchairs than air-filled tyres, yet they're just as sturdy. You can identify PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft texture. They also slide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.
If you rub your hands over the tyres, you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels like it is sliding then it's a rubber or PU. You can also test if your buggy is fitted with PU tyres, by sliding them onto flat, clean surfaces. They should roll easily and fit snugly into wheel hubs.
Foam tyres are typically used in high-performance buggies and Joggers due to their ability to deal with the rough terrain associated with this type of pushchair. The downside of this is that the foam can expand and cause your buggy to feel less stable since it loses its springy feel. Additionally, these types of tyres can often be noisy as they generate a lot of noise when you turn and navigate your way through town.
