The first hundred search results were identified. Invalid hyperlinks and duplicates were excluded. Providers, format and location of information were extracted. For webpages detailing treatment options, the DISCERN instrument and JAMA benchmark were used to determine the quality of the information provided.Results Of the first hundred search results, 89 webpages met the initial inclusion criteria. A majority (79%) originated from dental providers. Information was commonly presented as patient information leaflets. Of the 78 webpages detailing treatment options, 3% of webpages received a maximum DISCERN score of 5 and 64% a score of 1. No webpages fulfilled all JAMA criteria and 89% met only one criterion. Secondary care providers scored higher in both scales; however, this represents only 5% of the information available.Conclusion The internet is a commonly accessed information resource for patients. The quality of internet information available regarding intravenous sedation in dentistry is suboptimal. There is a need for more high-quality information resources.Introduction Despite improvements in oral health outcomes in New Zealand over the last number of decades, there are still high levels of preventable tooth decay in adults and children. We investigate the prevalence and spatial variation of non-fluoride toothpaste use in a nationally representative sample of adults and children in New Zealand.Method Individual-level self-reported data were sourced from the New Zealand Health Survey (2017/18). Both child (n = 4,723) and adult (n = 13,869) data were used. Data included sociodemographic (for example, age), socioeconomic (for example, area-level deprivation) and dental-related (for example, type of toothpaste used) variables.Results Overall, 6.8% of adults and 6.4% of children use non-fluoride toothpaste. When split by deprivation, the highest prevalence of non-fluoride toothpaste use for children and adults was in the moderate to least deprived areas, while the lowest prevalence was in the most deprived areas. When disaggregated by ethnicity, the Asian population had the highest prevalence of non-fluoride toothpaste use for both adults and children compared to Māori, Pacific and European/Other. There was little difference in prevalence by rural/urban classification; however, prevalence varied geographically across the study area.Conclusion This is the first study that uses a nationally representative sample of adults and children to show variation in the use of non-fluoride toothpaste in New Zealand.Objective The aim of this systematic review was to gain a greater insight into the incidence rates of distal surface caries (DSC) on second permanent molars.Data sources A literature search using the Cochrane Library, Lilacs, Embase and Medline via Ovid retrieved English and non-English language articles from inception to June 2016. Epalrestat The electronic searches were supplemented with reference searching and citation tracking. Reviewers independently and in duplicate performed data extraction and completed structured quality assessments using a validated risk of bias tool for observational studies and categorised the summary scores.Data selection The search yielded 81 records and, after application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, two incidence studies were included in this systematic review.Data extraction The DSC incidence was reported in one study as relative risk (RR = 2.53; 95% CI, 1.55 to 4.14) adjacent to erupted, (RR = 0.83; 95% CI, 0.11 to 6.04) soft tissue impacted and (RR = 1.44; 95% CI, 0.55 to 3.72) bony impacted third molars in comparison to when the third molar was absent with a 25-year follow-up. The second study reported a DSC incidence of 100 surface-years (1% of all sites) with an 18-month follow-up period.Conclusions Both cohort studies indicated that DSC incidence was higher when third molars were erupted in the intermediate term, but greater over the long term for an ageing male population. However, further high-quality research is required to improve the accuracy of these findings.Introduction The use of general anaesthesia in paediatric dentistry should be appropriate and justified. During the treatment of children, a clinician should have foresight into the future dental requirements of the patient and whether a future general anaesthetic will be required in quick succession. Efforts should be made when possible to avoid this.Aims This service evaluation was performed to gather information regarding repeat dental general anaesthetics within Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.Methods All children's records who had experienced a repeat dental general anaesthetic between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2018 were analysed. Those who had experienced a repeat dental general anaesthetic within two years were investigated.Results Overall, 0.63% of children had a repeat dental general anaesthetic within a two-year period. These repeat dental general anaesthetics were mainly justified due to new dental caries. 43.9% had modifying factors, such as a complex medical history, that could have impacted the need for a second dental general anaesthetic.Conclusion The repeat rate in Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is low. We believe this is a result of specialist treatment planning and appropriate use of both 'extraction only' and 'restorative and extraction' GA lists.Tooth autotransplantation (the movement of a tooth from one site to another in the same person) is a technique with a history dating back many centuries. However, the use of third molars as donor teeth is perhaps less well-recognised and less documented. A review of the current literature was undertaken with particular attention to the use of the third molar as the donor tooth. The selection process, surgical procedure and follow-up pathways were summarised in the review. Appropriate patient selection was found to be a key factor in the success of the technique. Other prognostic factors were also discussed. The findings from the available literature suggest that autotransplantation is a viable and cost-effective technique. However, the literature relating to the use of third molars as donor teeth for autotransplantation is limited and there are currently no evidence-based guidelines or protocols relating to the technique. This paper discusses the literature and protocols the authors implement for autotransplantation of wisdom teeth.Dental implant treatment is a well-documented technology, but sadly with the passage of time, the vast majority of dental implants sold on the market today have little of their own documentation. All implants are not the same and the consequences of 'look-alike' implants relying on the documentation of others may be far-reaching. This opinion piece highlights concerns identified in the literature and exposes problems that are already occurring in reality.In the present study, we report the effects of extracellular medium conductivity on cell response in the context of sub-microsecond range (100 ns-900 ns) electroporation, calcium electroporation and cell size. The effects of 25 ns and microsecond range (100 μs) pulses were also covered. As a model, three different cancer cell lines of various size (C32, MCF-7/DX and MC38/0) were used and the results indicated different size-dependent susceptibility patterns to the treatment. The applied pulsed electric field (PEF) protocols revealed a significant decrease of cell viability when calcium electroporation was used. The dependence of calcium ion transport and finally the anticancer effect on the external medium conductivity was determined. It was shown that small differences in conductivity do not alter viability significantly, however, mostly affect the permeabilization. At the same, MC38/0 cell line was the least susceptible to calcium electroporation, while the C32 line the most. In all cases calcium electroporation was mostly dependent on the sensitivity of cells to electroporation and could not be effectively improved by the increase of CaCl2 concentration from 2 mM to 5 mM. Lastly, sub-microsecond PEF stimulated aquaporin-4 and VDAC1/Porin immunoreactions in all treated cells lines, which indicated that cell water balance is affected, ions exchange is increased and release of mitochondrial products is occurrent.Positron emission tomography (PET) is a diagnostic nuclear imaging modality that relies on automated protocols to prepare agents labeled with a positron-emitting radionuclide (e.g., 18F). In recent years, new reactions have appeared for the 18F-labeling of agents that are difficult to access by applying traditional radiochemistry, for example those requiring 18F incorporation into unactivated (hetero)arenes. However, automation of these new methods for translation to the clinic has progressed slowly because extensive modification of manual protocols is typically required when implementing novel 18F-labeling methodologies within automated modules. Here, we describe the workflow that led to the automated radiosynthesis of the poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor [18F]olaparib. First, we established a robust manual protocol to prepare [18F]olaparib from the protected N-[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethoxy]methyl (SEM) arylboronate ester precursor in a 17% ± 5% (n = 15; synthesis time, 135 min) non-decay-corrected (NDC) activity yield, with molar activity (Am) up to 34.6 GBq/µmol. Automation of the process, consisting of copper-mediated 18F-fluorodeboronation followed by deprotection, was achieved on an Eckert & Ziegler Modular-Lab radiosynthesis platform, affording [18F]olaparib in a 6% ± 5% (n = 3; synthesis time, 120 min) NDC activity yield with Am up to 319 GBq/µmol.Persistent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection results in chronic liver diseases that may progress to chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and subsequent hepatocellular carcinoma. Previous studies demonstrated that adaptive immunity, in particular CD8 T cells, is critical in HBV elimination. Recent studies have revealed a distinct tissue-localized T cell lineage, tissue-resident memory (TRM) cells, that is crucial for protective immunity in peripheral tissues. In this study, we showed that treatment with an anti-asialo GM1 (ASGM1) antibody (Ab), which depletes NK cells, led to impairment of HBV clearance in a mouse animal model. Unexpectedly, the ability to clear HBV was not significantly impaired in NFIL3 KO mice, which are deficient in NK cells, implying that other non-NK ASGM1-positive immune cells mediate HBV clearance. We isolated intrahepatic ASGM1-positive cells from NFIL3 KO mice and analyzed the immune phenotype of these cells. Our results demonstrated a distinct population of CD44+ LFA-1hi CD8 T cells that were the major intrahepatic ASGM1-positive immune cells in NFIL3 KO mice.
