Molecular insights in the hang-up of glutamate dehydrogenase by the dicarboxylic acid solution metabolites.
The hydraulic properties were estimated using pedotransfer functions. Statistical analysis of topsoil data shows low correlation between heavy metals, whereas high correlation was found between total S with Cu and Pb as well as total C with Cu and Pb. The concentration of all the HMs analysed was found to be under LUTL in all locations in the park, except for one point that is an outlier for Pb, although the values of several indexes for pooled HMs categorize the park as medium to highly polluted. Spatial autocorrelation was explored for every heavy metal and for elaborated pollution indexes, then maps were drawn using geostatistics. A human health risk assessment (HHRA) was computed for several simulated scenarios finding that risk exists for children from Pb through high ingestion of soil particles. This paper explores the features of accounting for the national carbon emission inventory under four different system boundaries, including the presently operational territorial production-based accounting (PBA) practised by the UNFCCC. Using a recently published input-output table with the base year for 2013-2014, the study calculates India's 'Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)' to the mitigation of carbon emissions using production-based, consumption-based, sharing-based and equity-based accounting. The study finds India as a net importer of carbon emissions, especially for its high emission-intensive capital and energy goods import such that the country is bearing the minimum burden of emission reduction responsibility. However, the study intends to analyse this burden of responsibility in terms of the criteria of justice and effectiveness and addresses the future policy priorities for India to become a net exporter of industrial goods. We recommend India for supporting and implementing an alternative system boundary of emission inventory accounting which would be more consistent with the provisions of 'equity' subscribed under the UNFCCC while at the same time, helpful for achieving the climate goals by appropriately trace and track the sources of 'carbon leakage'.Effective solutions for efficient carbon dioxide (CO2) capture in air at room temperature are in high demand due to the major impacts CO2 has on global climatic changes. Solid adsorbents materials for CO2 capture received great attention over the past years, among them, magnesium-based sorbents have been identified as a promising solution for CO2 capture at intermediate temperatures. This study reports for the first time (1) the synthesis of monoclinic magnesium malate tetrahydrate by combining electrospinning and aging processes, and (2) its room temperature CO2 adsorption and mineralization in air. Commercial magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2) powder was used as raw material in the synthesis of magnesium carbonate hydrates (MCH), by three processes; (1) direct calcination, (2) electrospinning and calcination, and (3) electrospinning, calcination, and aging (at room temperature and in air to incubate CO2 mineralization). The synthesized powder samples were characterized thoroughly using XRD, SEM, EDS, and TGA analyses. Effects of calcination temperature/aging time on CO2 adsorption (at room temperature), crystallization, and mineralization of MCH were studied. Interestingly, the results showed that the 6-month aged samples (via the third synthesis process above), recorded a CO2 adsorption capacity of 15.5 wt% within 90 min at 30 °C. Subsequently, three novel mechanisms of thermal decomposition CO2 adsorption/mineralization were proposed, and a theoretical upper limit of carbon saving potentials was estimated, i.e., 8 mol CO2 per 1 mol MgO. This work provides a novel CO2 mineralization approach that results in (1) effective and practical solutions of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission management and which holds (2) great potential for novel carbon-based fuels development.Due to Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm., high abundance in Novi Sad (Serbia) and previously confirmed biodiesel feedstock suitability, this study aimed to assess generative potential and yield, assess K. paniculata invasive risk, and investigate the influence of harvesting periods on the oil content and quality. Fifty-five specimens present in the Novi Sad inner-city core exhibited very high scores in the conducted invasiveness risk assessment (score 35/39). Determined good overall adaptability, growth and development, vitality and decorativeness of K. paniculata specimens, as well as the absence of phytopathological and entomological damages, due to lack of natural enemies, provided this species high unhindered yielding. The majority of investigated trees reached 5-10 m in height and canopy volumes from 10.1 to 70 m3, with an estimated more than 130 000-700 000 seeds produced per canopy. Seeds from one representative specimen were collected on different harvesting dates, at the end of August, September and October of 2019, and analyzed for oil content and quality for biodiesel production. With the average oil percentage of 22.8 w%, determined in the representative specimen, investigated 55 seed-bearing K. paniculata trees merely in the inner city core of Novi Sad, could produce 115 kg of oil. Since oil properties ( less then 1 w% of free fatty acids and the acid number less then 2 mgKOH.g-1) and fatty acid profile (high content of monounsaturated fatty acids ≈72 w%) fit the requirements set in EN14214 biodiesel standard, regardless of the harvest date, harvest season can be extended to at least three months without compromising the oil quality for biodiesel production. Thus, intrinsic disservice of K. paniculata - high seed yielding can be shifted into a novel ecosystem service - quality biodiesel production. Aiming to avoid viable seed deposition in the ground and formation of the invasive seed bank, early August harvest can be recommended.Pharmaceuticals and personal care products in wastewater discharge can be stressors to estuarine species. We transplanted juvenile Pacific oysters at varying distances within sites near wastewater treatment plant outfalls or oyster aquaculture control sites to assess small scale spatial variation in contaminant uptake and oyster condition. Oysters were transplanted to sites in Coos and Netarts Bays, Oregon and Grays Harbor, Washington, then collected after 9 and 12 months. Two pharmaceuticals (miconazole and virginiamycin M1) were detected in spring samples and four alkylphenols (NP1EO, NP2EO, NP and OP) were detected in summer samples, with more frequent detections at wastewater sites. Contaminant concentrations were similar across site types, indicating that even in sparsely populated coastal areas ( less then 25,000 in the watershed), shellfish are exposed to and uptake wastewater contaminants. Additionally, oyster condition was lower at wastewater sites compared to aquaculture sites, indicating a need to better understand whether contaminant exposure affects oyster condition.Water quality monitoring programs (WQMPs) are crucial for assessment of water quality in river basins where agricultural intensification and development raise concerns in freshwater and marine environments. WQMPs if supported by scientists and local communities, and if based on the knowledge needs of all stakeholders, can provide vital information supporting resource management actions. Our paper focuses on the transdisciplinary development and implementation of a community-led pilot WQMP for the Tully River basin, adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). The community-led pilot WQMP was established to fill some knowledge gaps identified during development of the Tully Water Quality Improvement Plan (WQIP) and to provide opportunities for active stakeholder participation in the monitoring. Results indicated some water quality parameters (i.e. nitrates and total phosphorus) had higher than expected values and exceeded state water quality guidelines. Hence, the results provided an evidence base for freshwater quality objective development to conserve, protect and improve water quality conditions in this basin and GBR. Leadership of Indigenous people in the pilot WQMP recognizes their deep desire to improve water resources outcomes and to care for country and people.A study on mercury (Hg) and selenium (Se) concentrations in the liver and muscle of brown smooth-hound shark Mustelus henlei and its principal prey items, was conducted in the western coast of Baja California Sur, Mexico. Average Hg concentrations were found to be high in the muscle than in the liver; however, Hg concentrations were below the maximum permissible limits, and hence, the consumption of this species does not constitute a risk to human health. The mean Se concentrations were higher in the liver than in the muscle. The results of Hg Se molar ratio revealed that Se counteracts the toxicity of Hg in hepatic tissues, whereas the contrary occurs in the muscle. Significant differences in Hg and Se accumulation were observed between females and males. Biomagnification factor values >1 demonstrate a biomagnification process from its principal prey species (i.e., red crab, Pleuroncodes planipes and Pacific mackerel, Scomber japonicus).Aquaponics is an emerging industry promoted as a sustainable agricultural practice. Economic sustainability of aquaponics is challenging, partly because some of the benefits are external to the grower, necessitating public intervention to support the industry. We used life cycle assessment to estimate the environmental impact of a proposed aquaponic system and applied a set of economic valuation methods to assess the costs of identified impact factors. We found that the system, planned to produce 60,000 ornamental fish and 108,000 lettuce heads per year would impact the environment with a cost of 10,700 EUR annually, about half the environmental cost of separate production of the same produce. Most of the external cost can be attributed to the industrial processes that prepare products used for aquaponic production. Although this method provides only a rough estimate of actual system impact, it can potentially be used to assess the cost-effectiveness of aquaponics from an environmental perspective.
Dengue is an endemic vector-borne disease influenced by environmental factors such as landscape and climate. Previous studies separately assessed the effects of landscape and climate factors on mosquito occurrence and dengue incidence. However, both factors concurrently coexist in time and space and can interact, affecting mosquito development and dengue disease transmission. For example, eggs laid in a suitable environment can hatch after being submerged in rain water. It has been difficult for conventional statistical modeling approaches to demonstrate these combined influences due to mathematical constraints.

To investigate the combined influences of landscape and climate factors on mosquito occurrence and dengue incidence.

Entomological, epidemiological, and landscape data from the rainy season (July-December) were obtained from respective government agencies in Metropolitan Manila, Philippines, from 2012 to 2014. Temperature, precipitation and vegetation data were obtained through remote sensing. FDI-6 order Aspecific climatic conditions and may be relevant as part of urban planning strategies to control dengue.
Dengue dynamics are not solely influenced by individual effects of either climate or landscape, but rather by their synergistic or combined effects. The presented findings have the potential to target vector surveillance in areas identified as suitable for mosquito occurrence under specific climatic conditions and may be relevant as part of urban planning strategies to control dengue.
