Amongst all the traumatic experiences in a human life, death of child is considered the most painful, and has profound and lasting impact on the life of parents. The experience is even more complex when the death occurs within a neonatal intensive care unit, particularly in situations where there have been conflicts associated with decisions regarding the redirection of life-sustaining treatments. In the absence of national guidelines and legal backing, clinicians are faced with a dilemma of whether to prolong life-sustaining therapy even in the most brain-injured infants or allow a discharge against medical advice. Societal customs, vagaries, and lack of bereavement support further complicate the experience for parents belonging to lower socio-economic classes. The present review explores the ethical dilemmas around neonatal death faced by professionals in India, and suggests some ways forward.In this perspective article, we provide recommendations for strengthening the policy framework for protecting the Baltic Sea from agricultural nutrient pollution. The most striking weakness is the lax implementation of prescribed abatement measures, particularly concerning manure management, in most countries. Institutions of the EU should also be leveraged for achieving Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) goals. In contrast to the Helsinki Convention, the European Union has economic, political and legal mandates to further implementation and compliance. Equally important is the need for strengthening of local institutions, particularly Water Boards and independent agricultural advisory services in the eastern Baltic Sea Region countries. There is also an urgent need for implementation of voluntary land-use measures where EU funding available to farmers is more broadly and effectively used by providing it on the basis of estimated abatement performance, which can be realized through modelling. The enormous potential for funding performance-based schemes, manure management infrastructure and advisory services through the EU's Common Agricultural Policy are currently underutilized.Online evidence suggests that there has been an increase in interest of using unmanned aerial vehicles or drones during land-based marine recreational fishing. In the absence of reliable monitoring programs, this study used unconventional publicly available online monitoring methodologies to estimate the growing interest, global extent, catch composition and governance of this practice. Results indicated a 357% spike in interest during 2016 primarily in New Zealand, South Africa and Australia. From an ecological perspective, many species targeted by drone fishers are vulnerable to overexploitation, while released fishes may experience heightened stress and mortality. From a social perspective, the ethics of drone fishing are being increasingly questioned by many recreational anglers and we forecast the potential for increased conflict with other beach users. In terms of governance, no resource use legislation specifically directed at recreational drone fishing was found. These findings suggest that drone fishing warrants prioritised research and management consideration.Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory condition affecting up to 30% of patients with psoriasis. Patients may experience irreversible joint damage if not treated early, and diagnostic delays of even 6 months are associated with radiographic progression and impaired function. Therefore, early detection and intervention are of critical importance in patients with psoriatic arthritis. Given that psoriasis often precedes symptoms of psoriatic arthritis, dermatologists are uniquely positioned to identify patients with psoriatic arthritis early in their disease course, before permanent damage has occurred. Several screening tools have been developed to help dermatologists identify patients who may have psoriatic arthritis, but these tools may not capture patients with subclinical disease or quantify the type and severity of the underlying tissue insult, which is often the presenting sign of psoriatic arthritis. Coarctation of Aorta (CoA) is a congenital disease consisting of a narrowing that obstructs the systemic blood flow. This proof-of-concept study aimed to develop a framework for automatically and robustly personalizing aortic hemodynamic computations for the assessment of pre- and post-intervention CoA patients from 3D rotational angiography (3DRA) data.
We propose a framework that combines hemodynamic modelling and machine learning (ML) based techniques, and rely on 3DRA data for non-invasive pressure computation in CoA patients. The key features of our framework are a parameter estimation method for calibrating inlet and outlet boundary conditions, and regional mechanical wall properties, to ensure that the computational results match the patient-specific measurements, and an improved ML based pressure drop model capable of predicting the instantaneous pressure drop for a wide range of flow conditions and anatomical CoA variations.

Patients receiving transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) can benefit from continuous, longitudinal monitoring of valve prosthesis to prevent leaflet thrombosis-related complications. We present a computational proof-of-concept study of a novel, non-invasive and non-toxic valve monitoring technique for TAVs which uses pressure measurements from microsensors embedded on the valve stent. We perform a data-driven analysis to determine the signal processing and machine learning required to detect reduced mobility in individual leaflets.
We use direct numerical simulations to describe hemodynamic differences in transvalvular flow in ascending aorta models with healthy and stenotic valves. A Cartesian-grid flow solver and a reduced-order valve model simulate the complex dynamics of blood flow and leaflet motion, respectively. The two-way fluid-structure interaction coupling is achieved using a sharp interface immersed boundary method.
From a dataset of 21 simulations, we show leaflets with reduced mobility result in large, asymmetric pressure fluctuations in their vicinity, particularly in the region extending from the aortic sinus to the sino-tubular junction (STJ). We train a linear classifier algorithm by correlating sinus and STJ pressure measurements on the stent surface to individual leaflet status. The algorithm was shown to have >90% accuracy for prospective detection of individual leaflet dysfunction.
We demonstrate that using only two discrete pressure measurements, per leaflet, on the TAV stent, individual leaflet status can be accurately predicted. Such a sensorized TAV system could enable safe and inexpensive detection of prosthetic valve dysfunction.

The procedures for treating the outbreak of vesicular disease, sample collection, laboratory tests performed, and the results obtained were described. The clinical signs and observed injuries have been described. The sera showed antibodies that cross-react between the Vesiculovirus Indiana, Cocal, and Alagoas. The serological profile shows the presence of high antibody titers for Alagoas vesiculovirus in cattle, swine, and horses. Higher antibody titers indicate the viral serotype present in the outbreak. The genetic sequencing of the isolates confirmed the presence of Alagoas vesiculovirus, which grouped with the virus isolated in 2013 from cattle from the State of Maranhão.Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by movement dysfunction due to selective degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Non-motor symptoms of PD (e.g., sensory dysfunction, sleep disturbance, constipation, neuropsychiatric symptoms) precede motor symptoms, appear at all stages, and impact the quality of life, but they frequently go unrecognized and remain untreated. Even when identified, traditional dopamine replacement therapies have little effect. We discuss here the pathology of two PD-associated non-motor symptoms olfactory dysfunction and depression. Olfactory dysfunction is one of the earliest non-motor symptoms in PD and predates the onset of motor symptoms. It is accompanied by early deposition of Lewy pathology and neurotransmitter alterations. Because of the correlation between olfactory dysfunction and an increased risk of progression to PD, olfactory testing can potentially be a specific diagnostic marker of PD in the prodromal stage. Depression is a prevalent PD-associated symptom and is often associated with reduced quality of life. Although the pathophysiology of depression in PD is unclear, studies suggest a causal relationship with abnormal neurotransmission and abnormal adult neurogenesis. Here, we summarize recent progress in the pathology of the non-motor symptoms of PD, aiming to provide better guidance for its effective management.Acanthamoeba is known to interact with a plethora of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses. In these interactions, the amoebae can be predatory in nature, transmission vehicle or an incubator. Amoebae consume microorganisms, especially bacteria, as food source to fulfil their nutritional needs by taking up bacteria through phagocytosis and lysing them in phagolysosomes and hence play an eminent role in the regulation of bacterial density in the nature and accountable for eradication of around 60% of the bacterial population in the environment. Acanthamoeba can also act as a "Trojan horse" for microbial transmission in the environment. Additionally, Acanthamoeba may serve as an incubator-like reservoir for microorganisms, including those that are pathogenic to humans, where the microorganisms use amoebae's defences to resist harsh environment and evade host defences and drugs, whilst growing in numbers inside the amoebae. Furthermore, amoebae can also be used as a "genetic melting pot" where exchange of genes as well as adaptation of microorganisms, leading to higher pathogenicity, may arise. Here, we describe bacteria, fungi and viruses that are known to interact with Acanthamoeba spp.
