Evidence on the role of father involvement in children's development from low-resource settings is very limited and historically has only relied on maternal reports of father's direct engagement activities such as reading to the child. However, fathers can also potentially influence their children's development via greater positive involvement with the mother, such as by offering interpersonal support or sharing decision-making duties. Such positive intrahousehold interactions can benefit maternal mental health and wellbeing, and ultimately children's development. We use data collected from mothers, fathers and children in the context of the cluster randomized controlled trial evaluation of Msingi Bora, a responsive parenting intervention implemented across 60 villages in rural western Kenya, to explore the various pathways through which fathers may influence their children's outcomes. In an endline survey in Fall 2019 among a sample of 681 two-parent households with children aged 16-34 months, fathers reportnfluence in the design of parenting interventions involving fathers.Rapid detection and accurate analysis of trace samples is an important prerequisite for precision medicine. Here we integrated capillary with ultrasound to induce biomarkers enrichment in nanoliter samples, and developed a nanoliter sample enrichment analysis method for ultra-trace miRNA biosensing. The interaction between ultrasonic field and capillary provides a gradient ultrasound field, which is essential for the aggregation of functionalized microspheres along with the enrichment of specific biomarkers. The results indicated that the enrichment of the biomarkers effectively enhanced the fluorescence intensity, and the limit of detection reaches 7.8✕10-12 M in 100 nL. Such integrated device can realize ultrasonic enrichment and visual analysis of target samples, and provides a new idea for rapid and highly sensitive detection of ultra-trace biomarkers in clinical diagnosis.Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato (s.l.), an ubiquitous worldwide zoonotic agent affecting humans and animals. Diagnosis of CE in humans is usually performed by imagine techniques along with immunoassays. The aim of our study was to evaluate and compare four commercial diagnostic kits, based on the detection of IgG antibodies against E. granulosus and E. multilocularis. The study was performed on a total of 259 sera the positive (n = 74) and the negative (n = 185) group. The following analytic and diagnostic performances of the four kits were evaluated operator skills, specificity, sensitivity, repeatability, reproducibility, accuracy, positive and negative predictive values. Based on the parameters evaluated, all four tests demonstrated excellent quality and proved to be reliable diagnostic tools to support the clinical evaluation of human patients suspected of having CE. The four commercial assays, in our hands, presented altogether, a range of performances from good to excellent, being immunoblotting (IB) the most reliable, used as gold standard, followed by the immunochromatographic test (ICT) and finally the two enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISAs).
After subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), potential renal insults are numerous but the burden of early acute kidney injury (AKI) is unclear. We determined its incidence, rate of persistence, risk factors, and impact on patients' outcomes.

Patients with non-traumatic SAH were retrospectively included if they underwent catheter angiography within the 48h after their admission to the intensive care unit. Early AKI was defined according to Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcome (KDIGO) criteria, analyzed from the time of catheter angiography. Early AKI was considered as persistent if the KDIGO stage did not decrease between the 48th and the 60th hour.

Among 499 consecutive patients, early AKI (mostly oliguria) occurred in 132 (26%) stage 1, 2 and 3 in 72 (14%), 44 (9%), and 16 (3%) patients, respectively. It persisted in 36% of cases. Early AKI occurred more likely when SAH was severe or renal function was impaired at hospital admission adjusted odds ratio of 2.76 [95% 1.77-4.30] and 3.32 [1.17-9.46], respectively. ICU and hospital lengths of stay were longer in patients who developed early AKI than in patients who did not 16 [9-29] versus 12 [4-24] days (p=0.0003) and 21 [14-43] versus 16 [11-32] days (p=0.007), respectively. There was an independent link between early AKI and renal outcome (n=274 in the model) but not with hospital mortality (n=453).

One quarter of our population developed early AKI, mostly oliguria. It persisted beyond the 48th hour in one third of cases. The associated risk factors we identified were non-modifiable.

Interhemispheric inhibition is an important cortical mechanism to support motor control. Altered interhemispheric inhibition has been the target of neuromodulation interventions. This systematic review investigated the evidence for altered interhemispheric inhibition in adults with unilateral neurological conditions stroke, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cerebral palsy, complex regional pain syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and cerebral palsy METHODS We pre-registered the protocol and followed PRISMA guidelines. Five databases were systematically searched to identify studies reporting interhemispheric inhibition measures in unilateral neurological conditions and healthy controls. Data were grouped according to the measure (ipsilateral silent period and dual-coil), stimulated hemisphere, and stage of the condition (subacute and chronic).

1372 studies were identified, of which 14 were included (n=226 adults with stroke and 161 age-matched controls). Ipsilateral silent period-duration was longer in people with stroke than in controls (stimulation of dominant hemisphere) regardless of stroke stage. Motor evoked potential was less suppressed in people with sub-acute stroke (stimulation of the unaffected hemisphere) than controls (stimulation of dominant hemisphere) and this reversed in chronic stroke.

Detection of altered interhemispheric inhibition appears to be dependent on the measure of interhemispheric inhibition and the stage of recovery.

Rebalancing interhemispheric inhibition using neuromodulation is considered a promising line of treatment for stroke rehabilitation. Our results did not find compelling evidence to support consistent alterations in interhemispheric inhibition in adults with stroke.

Despite the success of recanalization by bridging therapy, about half of treated stroke patients remain disabled. While numerous reports propose clinical predictors of stroke clinical outcome in this context, we originally aimed to study pre-therapeutic factors influencing infarct growth (IG) and poor clinical outcome in strokes due to large vessel occlusion (LVO) successfully recanalized.

We enrolled 87 consecutive successfully recanalized patients (mTICI 2b/2c/3) by mechanical thrombectomy (±rt-PA) after stroke due to middle cerebral artery (M1) occlusion within 6h according to AHA guidelines. IG was defined by subtracting the initial DWI volume to the final 24h-TDM volume. Statistical associations between poor clinical outcome (mRS≥2), IG and pertinent clinico-radiological variables, were measured using logistic and linear regression models.

Among 87 enrolled patients (Age(y) 68.4±17.5; NIHSS 16.0±5.4), 42/87 (48,28%) patients had a mRS≥2 at 3 months. Diabetic history (OR 3.70 CI95%[1.03;14.29] and ithy could explain this result.Conductive hydrogels have attracted significant attention as a promising material in electrical and biomedical fields. However, the simultaneous realization of good conductivity, toughness, high tissue adhesiveness, excellent biocompatibility, and extreme environmental tolerance remains a challenge. Inspired by the antifreezing/antiheating behavior of natural plants, a calcium chloride/TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofiber-dopamine/ polyacrylamide (CaCl2/TOCNF-DOPA/PAM) glycerol/water organohydrogel with antifreezing and antiheating properties, good transparency, conductivity, stability, excellent biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and tissue adhesiveness was fabricated. The organohydrogel has about 700% stretchability, with about 90% transparency. The organohydrogel exhibits good conductivity of 4.9 × 10-4 S/cm and high tissue adhesiveness of 50 kPa, which can monitor various human activities. The organohydrogel displays excellent extreme environmental tolerance to maintain the conductivity and mechanical properties under an extremely wide temperature range (-24 to 50 °C) for a long period due to its water-locking effect between glycerol and water molecules. The biocompatible organohydrogel is able to protect the skin from frostbite or burns in harsh environments. The plant-inspired stable and durable organohydrogel is used as a wearable dressing for multifunctional sensors.
To investigate the diagnostic value of radial turbo-spin-echo (TSE) T2 mapping and readout segmentation of long variable echo-train diffusion-weighted imaging (RESOLVE DWI) for the differentiation of parotid gland tumors.

One hundred and fifty-four patients with histopathologically confirmed parotid gland tumors were retrospectively recruited from June 2018 to May 2021 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. There were 111 benign tumors and 43 malignant tumors. Benign tumors were further divided into pleomorphic adenomas (n=69) and Warthin's tumors (n=26). All patients were scanned using T2 mapping and RESOLVE DWI. T2 and ADC values and a combination of the two methods were compared and analyzed for the ability to differentiate parotid gland tumor types.

The T2 and ADC values of benign tumors were significantly higher than those of the malignant tumors (127.97±56.29ms vs 97.53±45.24ms, 1.27±0.40×10
