gether on one factor, whereas sleep disturbance stood up as a separate factor. Interestingly, the item anosmia/ageusia was not captured by any factor. In conclusion, an increase in neuropsychiatric morbidity is expected in the upcoming months and years. Therefore, screening for early symptoms is the first step to prevent mental health problems associated with this pandemic.
Movement disorders have been suggested to be a cardinal component of schizophrenia. With increased research interests in this area, instrumental measures are needed. This study was to examine if the motion capture system was reliable in measuring hand and facial bradykinesia and dyskinesia and more sensitive to detecting movement differences between schizophrenia patients and healthy people than traditional rating scales.

Sixteen schizophrenia patients and 20 control subjects were recruited. Hand and facial bradykinesia and dyskinesia were measured using the motion capture system and rated using the Extrapyramidal Symptom Rating Scale and the Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale.

The system showed strong test-retest reliability and generated larger effect sizes of group differences than did the rating scales.

The results may support researchers and clinical practitioners to apply the system to sensitively measuring the hand and facial movement symptoms in schizophrenia patients, which contributes to gaining a deep understanding of movement issues in schizophrenia.

Though it has been shown that men have a higher lifetime prevalence of substance use disorder and a lower prevalence of chronic pain than women, there is little research to date focusing on gender differences in the relationship between chronic pain and substance use disorder. This study examined whether gender moderates the relationship of chronic pain and substance use disorder. We also sought to examine the gender differences in the associations between specific pain types-arthritis, migraine, and back pain, and substance use disorder.

The data were drawn from the 2012 Canadian Community Health Survey-Mental Health (CCHS-MH 2012) with individuals aged 20 years and older living in the 10 Canadian provinces (
= 23,089). A two-level logistic mixed effects model was used to account for provincial differences.

Our findings indicated gender moderated the association between arthritis as well as migraine, and substance use disorder. However, no moderation effect of gender on the relationship between back pain and substance use disorder was found. Specifically, the strength of the association between arthritis and substance use disorder was stronger among men (OR
= 0.62, 95% CI 0.53 to 0.73), whereas the strength of the association between migraine and substance use disorder was stronger among women (OR
= 1.45, 95% CI 1.18 to 1.79). In addition, geographical location was found to explain a small proportion (2.3%-2.4%) of the overall variance in SUD.

The results suggest that gender moderated the relations between arthritis as well as migraine, and substance use disorder, respectively. Treatment programs for pain and substance misuse might benefit from an approach tailored to gender differences.

The aim of this study was to verify retrospectively the clinical efficacy and safety of a metabolic support therapy with Q10 ubiquinol, vitamin E and complex-B vitamins in various neurodevelopmental disorders. This retrospective chart review study included 59 patients (mean age 10.1 ± 1.2 y.o., range 2.5-39 years; MF = 2.471), diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (n = 17), Autism Spectrum Disorder with co-morbid Intellectual Disability (n = 19), Intellectual Disability or Global Developmental Delay (n = 15), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (n = 3) and Intellectual Disability in Phelan-McDermid syndrome due to chr. 22q13.33 deletion (n = 5). After a minimum of 3 months of therapy, a positive outcome was recorded in 45/59 (76.27%) patients, with Clinical Global Impression-Improvement scores ranging between 1 ("very much improved") and 3 ("minimally improved"). The most widespread improvurodevelopmental disorder are now warranted to conclusively demonstrate the efficacy of these mitochondrial bioenergetic and antioxidant agents and to estimate their therapeutic effect size.Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder associated with significant morbidity. Current treatment approaches consist of a mixture of pharmacological and psychological approaches. The emergence of digital technology, and mobile gaming applications, represents a promising novel method in potentially augmenting existing interventions for ADHD. In this review, we will map out the use of mobile gaming applications in the management of ADHD and evaluate the effectiveness of these technologies and any areas for future research. Four electronic databases were searched for relevant articles. All articles were screened for abstract and full text by two independent reviewers, and data extracted onto a common data extraction sheet. The data was narratively synthesized and reported in line with the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A total of 19 studies were included. Studies mostly evaluated the effectiveness of games on male children with ADHD. Most games were focused on the treatment of ADHD, while a minority were focused on the diagnosis and monitoring of ADHD. Some of the common gaming mechanisms employed in games included having participants responding to cures, remembering details, and making associations between different entities. The studies generally showed an improvement in performance of children as they played the games, but evidence for the effectiveness of these modalities remains scarce and mixed. While it is exciting that there is such a wide variety of games available currently in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of ADHD, many of the games lack clinical evidence to prove their effectiveness. Furthermore, most studies contain several limitations including small sample size, limited ages of participants, lack of control group, and lack of comprehensive outcomes. To promote the application of these games to clinical practice, robust clinical trials, collaboration between stakeholders and using a comprehensive set of outcome measurements is essential.
The aim of this study is comparing gray matter alterations in SCZ pediatric patients with those suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) based on a systematic review and an activation likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analysis.

A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, Elsevier, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). A systematic review and an ALE meta-analysis were performed to quantitatively examine brain gray matter alterations.

Children and adolescents with schizophrenia had decreased gray matter volume (GMV) mainly in the prefrontal cortex (PFC), temporal cortex (such as the middle temporal gyrus and transverse temporal gyrus), and insula, while children and adolescents with OCD mainly had increased GMV in the PFC and the striatum (including the lentiform nucleus and caudate nucleus), and decreased GMV in the parietal cortex.

Our results suggest that gray matter abnormalities in the PFC may indicate homogeneity between the two diseases. In children and adolescents, structural alterations in schizophrenia mainly involve the fronto-temporal and cortico-insula circuits, whereas those in OCD mainly involve the prefrontal-parietal and the prefrontal-striatal circuits.

Research has documented a common co-occurrence between ADHD and pediatric irritability. The latter is more characterized by affective symptoms, specifically frequent temper outbursts and low frustration tolerance relative to typically developing peers. Shared and non-shared neural correlates of youths with varied profiles of ADHD and irritability symptoms during childhood remain largely unknown. This study first classified a large sample of youths in the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study at baseline into distinct phenotypic groups based on ADHD and irritability symptoms (N = 11,748), and then examined shared and non-shared neural correlates of response inhibition and error processing during the Stop Signal Task in a subset of sample with qualinding to individual differences in ADHD and irritability symptoms and the underlying mechanisms are warranted when treating affected children and families.Several studies have highlighted associations between adverse life events and the dysphoric character of dream experiences. This degree of continuity between waking-life and dream content seems partly attributed to the emotional and personal attachment linked to the incorporated waking experiences. Numerous changes in the processing of emotion-related stimuli are also reported across different human developmental stages. Therefore, we were interested in testing whether age would modulate the impact of recent troubling experiences on dream characteristics. Two hundred sixty participants, evenly distributed in five developmental stages, matched for gender and their exposure to a troubling experience, were selected from a large sample collected for a previous normative study of dreams of Canadians. Participants completed a dream questionnaire from which independent judges subsequently scored the dreams. We observed no interactions between the experience of troubling events and age. BAI1 purchase However, individuals who experienced a recent troubling event reported a higher frequency of nightmares and their dreams were more emotionally negative. Participants who experienced a moderately severe troubling event were also more likely to experience a dream whose maximal threat severity was of moderate intensity. Adolescents and young adults had dreams with a higher level of oneiric threats compared to older adults (>40 years old). Young adults also reported a higher frequency of nightmares compared to older adults. Our findings have implications for modern dream theories. They also suggest that dysphoric dreams might serve as potential proxies of mental health status and developmental stages. Future studies are now needed to explore the implications of these findings for psychological adaptation.
