Intrinsic factors including pair status, prior reproductive success, and experience at a site, were also associated with breeding dispersal movements. The percent of monitored owls dispersing each year increased from ˜7% early in the study to ˜25% at the end of the study, which coincided with a rapid increase in numbers of invasive and competitively dominant barred owls. We suggest that the results presented here can inform spotted owl conservation efforts as we identify factors contributing to changing rates of demographic parameters including site fidelity and breeding dispersal. Our study further shows that increasing rates of breeding dispersal associated with population declines contribute to population instability and vulnerability of northern spotted owls to extinction, and the prognosis is unlikely to change unless active management interventions are undertaken.
Given the increasing prevalence of hysteromyoma among the Chinese rural women of childbearing age, it is imperative that more attention should be given to researching risk factors that predispose women to this condition so that early preventive measures may be taken. Our study investigates potential risk factors for uterine fibroids such as participants' demographic characteristics (age, ethnicity, education), physiological characteristics (age at menarche, primiparous age), and the occurrence of several different female reproductive diseases (vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease).
2200 rural women of reproductive age were screened from a cross-sectional study carried out in the northern Anhui province. Data were collected by questionnaire surveys, gynecological and laboratory examinations and were subjected to univariate and multivariate analysis to evaluate the risk factors for uterine fibroids.
Of the 2200 women, 440 had uterine fibroids. In general, women with endometriosis, ovarian cysts and early menarche were more likely to suffer from hysteromyoma. Factors including higher parity, late age of first childbirth, and a regular menstrual cycle were associated with the reduced risk of uterine fibroids.
Our findings indicate that parameters such as earlier age of menarche, early primiparous age, lower parity and a variety of female reproductive diseases were associated with an increased risk of uterine fibroids. These findings may be used to guide the formulation of effective prevention and intervention protocols to improve the reproductive health of rural women.

WEE1, a G2 /M checkpoint kinase, confers chemoresistance in response to genotoxic agents. However, the efficacy of WEE1 blockade in UC has not been reported. MK-1775, a WEE1 inhibitor also known as AZD-1775, blocked proliferation of UC cell lines in a dose-dependent manner irrespective of TP53 status. MK-1775 synergized with CDDP to block proliferation, inducing apoptosis and mitotic catastrophe in TP53-mutant UC cells but not in TP53-WT cells. Knocking down TP53 in TP53-WT cells induced synergism of MK-1775 and CDDP. In UMUC3 cell xenografts and two patient-derived xenograft lines with MDM2 overexpression, in which the p53/cell cycle pathway was inactivated, AZD-1775 combined with CDDP suppressed tumor growth inducing both M-phase entry and apoptosis, whereas AZD-1775 alone was as effective as the combination in RT4 cell xenografts. Drug susceptibility assay using an ex vivo cancer tissue-originated spheroid system showed correlations with the in vivo efficacy of AZD-1775 alone or combined with CDDP. We determined the feasibility of the drug susceptibility assay using spheroids established from UC surgical specimens obtained by transurethral resection. In conclusion, WEE1 is a promising therapeutic target in the treatment of UC, and a highly specific small molecule inhibitor is currently in early phase clinical trials for cancer. Differential antitumor efficacy of WEE1 blockade alone or combined with CDDP could exist according to p53/cell cycle pathway activity, which might be predictable using an ex vivo 3D primary culture system.Dupuytren's disease (DD) is a common and heritable fibrosis of the hand. It is characterized by the shortening and thickening of the palmar fascia into myofibroblastic nodules that can progress to palmar-digital contractures and permanent loss of dexterity. Molecular analyses of DD tissues and the presence of inflammatory cell infiltrates suggest a pathogenesis initiated by a proinflammatory fascial milieu that promotes myofibroblast activation and palmar fascia contractures. However, the relative contributions of vascular and/or tissue derived immune system cells and cytokine-sensitive stromal myofibroblasts to the development of this proinflammatory microenvironment are poorly understood. To gain insights into this process, we have developed and tested a collagen-based 3D tissue biomimetic co-culture system to assess paracrine interactions between THP-1-derived pro-inflammatory macrophages and primary human palmar fascia myofibroblasts (PFMs). We observed significant and reproducible impacts of collagen-adherent macrophage and PFM co-cultures on the cytokine gene expression profiles of these cells compared to their respective monocultures, and significant changes to the resulting cytokine milieu in their shared culture media, notably TNF and IL-6. Migration-leaving one place of residence for another-is a central feature of many people's life histories, and environmental change goes hand-in-hand with migration, both in terms of cause and consequence. Climate change has amplified this connection between environment and migration, with the potential to profoundly impact millions of lives. Although climate-induced migration has been at the forefront of other disciplines in the social sciences, evolutionary anthropologists (EAs) have given it little attention. In this paper we draw upon existing literature and contribute our EA perspective to present a framework for analyzing climate-induced migration that utilizes theoretical approaches from a variety of social science disciplines. We focus on three overlapping dimensions-time, space, and severity-relevant to understanding the impact of climate change on human migration. We apply this framework to case studies from North America of people impacted by climate change and extreme weather events, including hurricanes, droughts, rising sea-levels, and wildfires. We also consider how access to both economic and social resources influence decisions regarding migration. Research focused on climate-induced human migration can benefit equally from the addition of EA perspectives and a more interdisciplinary theoretical approach.Brachythecium Schimp. is one of the most complex and diverse genus among the pleurocarpous mosses, having almost 150 species distributed around the world. The current study presents a detailed morphological analysis of the six species of the genus Brachythecium in Western Himalayas, Pakistan. The study reports the first detailed micromorphological investigation of the leaf surfaces (gametophyte) of the studied species because in pleurocarpous mosses, mostly sporophyte micromorphology has been studied. The objective of the study was to present a comparative light (LM) and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis to describe the detailed morphology of bryophytes in Pakistan. Based on these findings, morphological and micromorphological features based on LM and SEM observations, qualitative and quantitative characters, taxonomic keys, distribution and habitat are discussed. NDD show great locus heterogeneity and for many of the associated genes, there is substantial phenotypic diversity, including epilepsy, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, movement disorders, and combinations thereof. We report two unrelated patients, a young girl with early-onset refractory epilepsy, severe disability, and progressive cerebral and cerebellar atrophy, and a second girl with mild dysmorphism, global developmental delay, and moderate intellectual disability in whom trio-based whole-exome sequencing analysis uncovered de novo missense variants in CHRM1. Biochemical analyses of one of the NDD-associated variants proved that it caused a reduction in protein levels and impaired cellular trafficking. In addition, the mutated receptor showed defective activation of intracellular signaling pathways. Our data strengthen the concept that brain-reduced muscarinic signaling lowers the seizure threshold and severely impairs neurodevelopment.
It is imperative that a team consisting of a physician, pharmacist, and nursing professional provides pharmacotherapy support to achieve the optimal effect of pharmacotherapy for older adults with dementia. This study reviewed Japanese publications on the process of pharmacotherapy support practised by various professionals for home-based older adults with dementia and investigated healthcare professionals' perceived importance and practice of pharmacotherapy support.
This study aimed to shed light on basic pharmacotherapy support for behavioural and psychological symptoms among home-based older adults with dementia using multidisciplinary collaboration, through a literature review of Japanese publications. Based on the literature review, 13 items pertaining to basic pharmacotherapy support for home-based older adults with dementia were extracted. A mail-based, self-administered, anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted with professionals including physicians, pharmacists, and nursing professionals who provide pharmacotherapy support to home-based older adults with dementia.
