There is a great interest in the identification and use of nature-based sources of these molecules for such cosmeceutical applications. The objective of the present study was, therefore, to investigate the FAA contents of selected Ethiopian plant and fungi species; and select the best sources so as to use them for the stated purpose. About 59 different plant species and oyster mushroom were included in the study and the concentrations of 27 FAAs were analyzed. Each sample was collected, lyophilized, extracted using aqueous solvent, derivatized with Fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl chloride (Fmoc-Cl) prior to solid-phase extraction and quantified using Liquid Chromatography Electrospray Ionization Tandem Mass Spectrometric (LC-ESI-MS/MS) system. All the 27 FAAs were detected in most of the samples. The dominant FAAs that are part of the NMF were found at sufficiently high concentration in the mushroom and some of the plants. This indicates that FAAs that could be included in the preparations for the management of dry skin condition can be obtained from a single natural resource and the use of these resources for the specified purpose have both economic and therapeutic advantage in addition to fulfilling customer needs.Environmental stressors such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, photoperiod, etc. under tropical conditions are some of the important limiting factors for optimum expression of production and reproduction in dairy cows. The present study evaluated changes in cardinal physiological responses, heat tolerance indices, and milk yield in Jersey crossbred cows due to abiotic stress. Climograph was developed using daily maximum and minimum temperatures, humidity, and rainfall at livestock farm over a period of 15 years. Seasons significantly (P less then 0.01) influenced cardinal physiological responses and thermal adaptability of Jersey crossbred cows. Diurnal environmental variations between morning and afternoon of the shed caused increase in body temperature, pulse, and respiration rate by 0.59-0.91%, 4.95-7.18%, and 9.73-32.37%, respectively. Thermal adaptability of cows showed significant (P less then 0.01) higher deviations from perfect state of adaptability during summer, monsoon, and post-monsoon as compared to winter and spring seasons. The responsiveness and ranking of cows were dissimilar among 3 heat tolerance indices, viz., Iberia heat tolerance index, Benezara's coefficient of adaptability, and Dairy Search Index (DSI). Enhanced respiration rate was the most important observable bio-indicator to poor thermal adaptability. Good thermo-tolerant cows had 8.86% higher (P less then 0.05) monthly milk yield per cow than poorly adapted ones. Findings of this study suggest that deviations in cardinal physiological responses across the seasons are very reliable and simple estimates for evaluating levels of thermo-tolerance in crossbred cows.A study was conducted to evaluate the characteristics of West African Dwarf (WAD) goat keepers and their trait preferences as part of a broader phenotypic characterisation work with the aim of providing information for improving the household management, conservation and productivity of the breed in Ghana. A total of 384 respondent households were selected from four agro-ecological zones in the middle belt and southern part of the country for questionnaire administration and direct observation of animals under field conditions. The results showed that there are slightly more women (54.2%) keeping WAD goats than men (45.8%) and fall within the economically active population of youthful and middle age categories (53.9%). A majority of these goat keepers were married (73.8%) and educated (87.3%) in one way or the other. They obtained their starter or foundation stock mainly from neighbours (80.5%) and the open market (16.0%). The average flock size from the households sampled was 7.9 ± 1.5, whereas the flock struration on the survivability, climate adaptability or resilience and productivity of their goats. Educating farmers on the importance of conserving and inclusion of animals possessing such traits in their selection practices under the Government's Rearing for Food and Jobs Initiative is therefore suggested.
1.7 billion children lack access to surgical care, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). The pediatric surgical workforce density (PSWD), an indicator of surgical access, correlates with survival of complex pediatric surgical problems. To determine if PSWD also correlates with population-level health outcomes for children, we compared PSWD with pediatric-specific mortality rates and determined the PSWD associated with improved survival.

Using medical licensing registries, pediatric surgeons practicing in 26 countries between 2015 and 2019 were identified. Countries' PSWD was calculated as the ratio of pediatric surgeons per 100,000 children. The correlation between neonatal, infant and under 5 mortality rates and PSWD was assessed using Spearman's correlations and piecewise linear regression models.

Four LIC, eight L-MIC, ten UMIC and four HIC countries, containing 420 million children, were analyzed. The median PSWD by income group was 0.03 (LIC), 0.12 (L-MIC), 1.34 (UMIC) and 2.13 (HIC). PSWD strongly correlated with neonatal (0.78, p < 0.001), infant (0.82, p < 0.001) and under 5 (0.83, p < 0.001) mortality rates. Survival improved with increasing PSWD to a threshold of 0.37.

PSWD correlates with pediatric population mortality rates, with significant improvements in survival with PSWD > 0.37. Currently, PSWD in LMICs is inadequate to meet UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.2 for child mortality.

Cochlear synaptopathy or hidden hearing loss is difficult to assess due to the lack of sensitivity with standard audiological tests. Poor speech perception, especially in the presence of noise or tinnitus, is the most common complaint of these patients. The purpose of this systematic review is to identify articles in peer-reviewed journals that used behavioral measures in the effective assessment of cochlear synaptopathy or hidden hearing loss.

The manuscripts were searched in various international databases, and the manuscripts were screened based on titles, abstracts, and full-length content. A total of 14 human studies were selected after the appropriate exclusion of other articles.

Results showed that high-frequency audiometry could be used for the early identification of cochlear synaptopathy. The tone in noise detection test can also be added in the test battery along with speech perception in noise. The amplitude modulation detection test, interaural phase difference, and differential sensitivity tests require more research before using them for the assessment of cochlear synaptopathy or hidden hearing loss.

Self-reports and questionnaires also help in determining the extent of noise exposure.

This study investigated the clinical usefulness of F-18 fluorodeoxylucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for postoperative surveillance in the RCC patients in terms of detectability of recurrence and radiation exposure.

Three-hundred-and-forty- three RCC patients who underwent surgery and postoperative surveillance were retrospectively included. Conditional recurrent free survival (CRFS) was investigated and diagnostic performance of conventional imaging (CI) which include abdominopelvic CT or/and chest CT was compared to the FDG PET/CT.

At a median follow-up of 4.3years (0.5-13.0years), thirty-nine patients (11.4%) developed recurrence. CRFS of the patients increased over time with greater increment in advanced stage. Pimasertib cell line The sensitivity, specificity, positive-predictive value, negative-predictive value, and accuracy of FDG PET/CT were 92.3%, 97%, 80%, 99.0%, and 96.5% in detecting recurrence, while those values for CI were 89.7%, 97.7%, 83.3%, 98.7%, and 96.8%, respectively. There were no significant differences in these values between FDG PET/CT and CI (McNemar test, p = 0.581). The average radiation dose from FDG PET/CT was around 16.9 ± 3.08mSv at each follow-up time point. For early stage patients, the average radiation dose from CI was around 26.5 ± 8.57mSv at each follow-up time point, while this was about 33.0 ± 9.76mSv for advanced stage patients.

FDG PET/CT exhibited good diagnostic performance in asymptomatic RCC patients after surgery, of a level comparable to that of CI, but with a lower radiation dose.

The masseteric nerve, which is a branch of the mandibular nerve, passes lateral to the mandibular notch and then spreads in the muscle to achieve motor innervation. The muscle entry points of these motor branches are the target points of minimally invasive interventions preferred in the treatment of masseter hypertrophy. The aim of this study was to reveal the areas where the motor entry points are concentrated in the muscle by dividing the muscle into topographic regions using reliable anatomic landmarks.

Bilateral 20 masseter muscles (40 in total) belonging to 20 formalin-fixed cadavers (10 female and 10 male) were examined. The distribution of the nerve in the muscle and its motor entry points were demonstrated and marked on the muscle surface. The masseter muscle was divided into six areas by lines passing through reliable anatomical landmarks (Areas 1-6).

The total number of MEPs was 231.The mean distance of the MEPs from the Line-1 was 27.4 ± 11mm, and the same distance from the Line-6 was 30.32 ± 7.2mm. Most of the MEPs (123/231) were located in Area-4. Area-6 was the second (82/231) and Area-5 (19/231) was the third.

We suggest that interventions in Area-4 (especially in the middle part) may have less complications as a result of less relationship with surrounding anatomical structures and more effective with high MEP number.
