It was estimated that the geopolymer cement paste exhibited higher absorption and sorptivity values than control mixtures when molarity increased. However, the samples prepared with combinations of the 8 M activator solution exhibited consistent absorption, sorptivity, and compressivproblems with enhanced durability.Ketoprofen (KET) represents one of the most common drugs used in the topical treatment of pain and inflammations. However, its potential is rather limited due to the very low solubility and photochemical instability. The local administration of KET by conventional products, such as gels, emulgels, creams, and foams, does not guarantee an efficacious and safe treatment because of its low absorption (due to low solubility) and its sensitivity to UV rays. The photodegradation of KET makes many photoproducts responsible for different adverse effects. In the present work, KET was intercalated into the lamellar anionic clay ZnAl-hydrotalcite (ZnAl-HTlc), obtaining the hybrid ZnAl-KET with improved stability to UV rays and water solubility in comparison to the crystalline form (not intercalated KET). The hybrid was then formulated in autoadhesive patches for local pain treatment. The patches were prepared by casting method starting from a hydrogel based on the biocompatible and bioadhesive polymer NaCMC (Sodium carboxymethycellulose) and glycerol as a plasticizing agent. The introduction of ZnAl-KET in the patch composition demonstrated the improvement in the mechanical properties of the formulation. Moreover, a sustained and complete KET release was obtained within 8 h. All trauma patients in a period of eight months in a Level I trauma center were followed. Retrospective analysis was performed only in patients ≥18 years with primary TRU admission, Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) ≤ 1, Maximum Abbreviated Injury Scale (MAIS) ≤ 1 and Injury Severity Score (ISS) ≤3 after treatment completion and ≥24 h monitoring in the units. Cochran's Q-test was used for the statistical evaluation of AIS and ISS changes in units.

One hundred and twelve patients were enrolled in the study. Twenty-one patients (18.75%) reported new complaints after treatment completion in the TRU. AIS rose from the Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) to Normal Care Unit (NCU) 6.2% and ISS 6.9%. MAIS did not increase >2, and no intervention was necessary for any patient. No correlation was found between computed tomography (CT) diagnostics in TRU and AIS change.

A diet intervention using the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been shown to be an effective therapeutic approach for alleviating a dust-induced inflammatory response. We thus hypothesized a high-DHA diet would alter the dust-induced inflammatory response through the increased production of specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs). Mice were pre-treated with a DHA-rich diet 4 weeks before being intranasally challenged with a single dose of an extract made from dust collected from a concentrated swine feeding operation (HDE). This omega-3-fatty-acid-rich diet led to reduced arachidonic acid levels in the blood, enhanced macrophage recruitment, and increased the production of the DHA-derived SPM Resolvin D1 (RvD1) in the lung following HDE exposure. An assessment of transcript-level changes in the immune response demonstrated significant differences in immune pathway activation and alterations of numerous macrophage-associated genes among HDE-challenged mice fed a high DHA diet. Our data indicate that consuming a DHA-rich diet leads to the enhanced production of SPMs during an acute inflammatory challenge to dust, supporting a role for dietary DHA supplementation as a potential therapeutic strategy for reducing dust-induced lung inflammation.The progression of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is complicated. The multiple parallel-hits theory is advocated, which includes adipocytokines, insulin resistance, endotoxins, and oxidative stress. Pathways involving the gut-liver axis also mediate the progression of NASH. Angiotensin-II receptor blockers (ARB) suppress hepatic fibrosis via the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Rifaximin, a nonabsorbable antibacterial agent, is used for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy and has been recently reported to improve intestinal permeability. We examined the inhibitory effects on and mechanism of hepatic fibrogenesis by combining ARB and rifaximin administration. Fischer 344 rats were fed a choline-deficient/l-amino acid-defined (CDAA) diet for 8 weeks to generate the NASH model. The therapeutic effect of combining an ARB and rifaximin was evaluated along with hepatic fibrogenesis, the lipopolysaccharide-Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) regulatory cascade, and intestinal barrier function. ARBs had a potent inhibitory effect on hepatic fibrogenesis by suppressing HSC activation and hepatic expression of transforming growth factor-β and TLR4. Rifaximin reduced intestinal permeability by rescuing zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) disruption induced by the CDAA diet and reduced portal endotoxin. Rifaximin directly affect to ZO-1 expression on intestinal epithelial cells. The combination of an ARB and rifaximin showed a stronger inhibitory effect compared to that conferred by a single agent. ARBs improve hepatic fibrosis by inhibiting HSCs, whereas rifaximin improves hepatic fibrosis by improving intestinal permeability through improving intestinal tight junction proteins (ZO-1). Therefore, the combination of ARBs and rifaximin may be a promising therapy for NASH fibrosis.Most of the global population is deficient in long-chain marine omega-3s.
