This Week's Most Popular Stories Concerning 3 Wheeler Buggies
3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeler is ideal for tackling off-road terrain providing a smooth ride for your child. They can also be easier to move and push than a four-wheeler, especially if they have fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are positioned snugly in the frame, offering the best ergonomics and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled buggys are extremely stable, which makes them an excellent option for off-roading (especially when they are equipped with a seat that is all-terrain or off-road). They typically have larger front wheels that can deal well with kerbs and bumps as well as rough ground. Some even have a lockable front wheel for extra stability on uneven terrain.

It is important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies have a lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled versions which means they could fall more easily. But, the top 3-wheel pushchairs are designed with perfect geometry and engineering to make them very stable in all weather conditions. They should be able to turn on a dime and be easy to steer using one hand. They also have a 360o rotating front wheel that makes them perfect to navigate difficult terrain.

For surfaces that are extremely challenging, look out for models with air-filled tyres, also known as pneumatic tyres. These are made to handle non-paved tracks and should cope with mud, gravel, rock etc. A lot of all-terrain buggies have an swivelling wheel at the front that can be locked for greater stability when dealing with rough terrain.

A 3-wheel stroller is an ideal option for runners and those who like to walk fast and uphill, especially if you're planning to attach a carrycot or car seat. The Roma Atlas is a great example, with a wide-facing seat that reclines flat and comes with a new 5-point harness as well as storage space for all your kit (plus an extendable 50+ sun hood). It's lightweight compact and safe for use starting at birth. It can be used with either a car seat or a carrycot. It can also be used for light jogging however, it isn't designed for serious runners.

Weight

If you are looking for a buggy to tackle difficult terrain, then you should choose one with big tires. These will cope well over cobbles, grass and dirt tracks and provide the smoothest ride for all passengers. They are also great for jogging since they're equipped with suspension and are simple to move up and down kerbs. However, 3 wheeled pushchair is that they are quite heavy to push.

The best 3-wheel buggy for rough terrain is the Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 (pictured above). This 3-wheel buggy has 16 rear wheels, and a lockable swivel front wheel, so it's very manoeuvrable. It has air-filled tyres which require pumping up from time to time. It can be used by children as young as the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the shape of the seat and found it easy to steer even with her 3-year-old on the seat.

The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another excellent option. It has an adjustable handlebar, a hood made of high-end materials that offers 50+ UV protection, and a high-quality hood. It's also easy to move up and down kerbs, and it can fit into small car boot. It can also be used as a pram, with a carrycot or infant car seat for newborns and toddlers.

Fabric slings are placed in the frame and not on top of the frame like modular seats. This style has a lower centre-of-gravity at the right height. It is easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you cannot underestimate how many times you will do that as a brand new parent!).

Seating

There are a myriad of alternatives for seating options in 3 wheelers. The carrycot included is ideal for a newborn (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lying-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy). Older children and toddlers will enjoy the spacious and comfortable seat with adjustable ventilation. It's important to note that these seats don't recline fully, but they can be lowered to the lowest position which should still give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A fabric sling is also available. It has the advantage that it is positioned inside the frame instead of being placed on top of it as a seat that is modular. This creates a lower center of gravity with perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push especially over bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath loved the way that this style of seat negotiated these challenges.

This type of buggy comes with an enormous basket, along with other beneficial features like an extendable hood with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal and some innovative visibility lights that can be positioned in front of the occupants for improved safety on difficult terrain.

If you're searching for a single baby buggy that will adapt to your family's needs, there's the brand-new sport(tm) that's the first in the world to take a single infant from day one and change to take two or even 3 once your baby has grown and all within the footprint of a single buggy.

Stores

The 3-wheeled frame makes a buggy more sturdy to push one-handed and is also ideal for handling rough terrain. However, it means that the basket won't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.

A high-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres, a cushioned grip for better comfort, and an excellent suspension. It should also be equipped with the form of a car seat and carrycot which means you can use it from the moment you are born.

MFM's reviewers have found that the 3-wheeler frame doesn't pass through all doors in their homes, or small car boot - be sure you check the dimensions of the buggy once it's folded before purchasing for those who are concerned about space.

It's worth looking for 3-wheelers that can accommodate two (or even 3!) This is the best option for your future and can help you save money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most popular. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggy and then converted into twin buggies after your baby is walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are designed to give your child a more comfortable ride by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. These are used on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted’s Sport that MFM reviewer Kath said was "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also noted that the grippy tires of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easy for her to navigate the kerbs and other obstacles.

These tyres can sometimes prove difficult to maintain their inflation and must be filled regularly. These tyres are more susceptible to punctures, and it is recommended to always carry an repair kit and spare inner tube with you when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be found on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres, yet they're just as robust. You can tell PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide well on even and tied surfaces.

It's usually possible to discern the difference between air-filled and PU tires by running your hands over each one, if it feels hard, then it's made of rubber, when it slides, it's a PU. You can also test if your buggy is fitted with PU tyres sliding them across flat, clean surfaces. They should roll easily and fit comfortably into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are often used in high-performance buggies as well as joggers because they can cope with the rough terrain associated with this kind of pushchair. This could make your buggy less stable because the foam will lose its springy nature. These tyres also make a lot of noise because they generate a lot noise when you turn or drive around the town.
