Hydatid disease (HD) is a parasitic endemic zoononis in Tunisia, caused by the larval stage of Echinococcus Granulosus (EG). Adrenal glands are an uncommon and rare location for hydatid cysts, even in endemic areas, and primary adrenal cysts are exceptional. Herein, we report a rare case of 46-year-old man with primary giant adrenal hydatid cyst complicated by inferior vena cava thrombosis. The patient was successfully treated with an open adrenalectomy, with prophylactic albendazole therapy pre and postoperatively.Leclercia adecarboxylata is an rare human pathogen, mostly affecting immunocompromised individuals or as one microbe in polymicrobial infections in immunocompetent patients. L. adecarboxylata is rarely isolated from the urinary tract. We describe a case of pan-sensitive L. adecarboxylata isolated from a polymicrobial urinary tract infection from an immunocompetent older adult with recently diagnosed bladder cancer.
The incidence and prevalence of congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) have not been well established. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence, incidence and genotypes of CDG patients diagnosed during the last 23years in Poland (1997 - 30th October 2020).

The diagnosis was based on serum Tf IEF which is performed at The Children's Memorial Health Institute (CMHI) in Warsaw. Based on demographic data, the prevalence of CDG among the Polish population in 2020 as well as the birth prevalence of CDG from 1990 to 2020 were estimated.

39 patients (from 35 families) with molecularly confirmed CDG were diagnosed, including 17 (44%) patients (from 16 families) with PMM2-CDG. The c.422G>A, p.Arg141His and c.691G>A, p.Val231Met pathogenic missense variants were the most common identified PMM2 variants. Etoposide price Eleven other patients were diagnosed with CDG based on serum Tf IEF analysis only; the molecular analysis is pending. Ten CDG patients died, including 6 with PMM2-CDG, 1 with PGM1-CDG and 1 with DPAGT1-CDG. The prevalence of CDG in the Polish population was estimated at approximately 1 per million while that of PMM2 at 0.4 per million. The annual incidence of CDG was estimated at 0.013 per 100,000 people in 2020.

Coronary arteries were normal on coronary angiography; troponins were very high, echocardiography revealed a preserved global systolic function but an alteration of the longitudinal strain in the inferolateral wall. Cardiac MRI confirmed the diagnosis of acute myocarditis. As part of the etiological workup, Coxiella burnetii serology showed an acute infection. The diagnosis of Coxiella burnetii myocarditis was retained and the patient was treated with doxycycline and corticosteroid therapy. This review aims to introduce different nonlinear mechanisms in photoacoustics, underline the fundamental principles, highlight their representative applications, and outline the occurrence conditions and applicable range of each nonlinear mechanism. Furthermore, this review thoroughly discusses the nonlinearity rule concerning how the mathematical structure of the nonlinear dependence is correlated to its practical applications. This summarization is useful for identifying and guiding the potential applications of nonlinearity based on their mathematical expressions, and is helpful for new nonlinear mechanism discovery or implementation in the future, which facilitates further breakthroughs in nonlinear photoacoustics.The two of three species of city-inhabiting (Warsaw, Poland) Apodemus spp. mice were showed to be infected with Borrelia miyamotoi, spirochete bacterium considered to be a tick-borne relapsing fever (TBRF) disease causative agent. The pathogen infection was ascertained based on bacterium DNA presence in a blood (obtained from the lateral tail vein) of the mice, using the nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. The B. miyamotoi carriers populated not only green spaces situated in the suburban areas but also recreational parks and lawns in the city centre proper. Moreover, we found no significant differences in the infection rate depending on mouse species. The total prevalence of infection at the level of 5.6% suggests the potential role of urban-settled rodents in the spreading of the tick-borne zoonosis, which pose high risk to public health.COVID-19 has placed a significant strain upon healthcare resources at a global level and refractory hypoxemia is the leading cause of death among COVID-19 patients. The management of limited resources such as mechanical ventilators has remained a contentious issue both at an individual and institutional level since the beginning of the pandemic. As a result, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges to critical care practitioners to find innovative ways to provide supplemental oxygen therapy to their patients. We present a single-center experience a case series of five COVID-19 infected patients managed with a novel approach to provide supplemental oxygen and positive end-expiration pressure (PEEP) via the helmet. Three of the five patients responded to therapy, did not require intubation, and survived to discharge. The other two patients continued to deteriorate clinically, required endotracheal intubation, and subsequently expired during their hospitalization. We extrapolated our accumulated experience with non-invasive oxygen support by helmet in COVID-19 patients to a non-COVID-19 postoperative patient who underwent sinus surgery and developed hypoxemic respiratory failure also resulting in avoidance of endotracheal intubation. We conclude that oxygen therapy via a helmet is a safe, cost-effective technique to prevent intubation in carefully selected patients with infectious and non-infectious causes of hypoxic respiratory failure. Our positive experience with the system warrants further large-scale study and possible technique refinement.
