How To Outsmart Your Boss 3 Wheeler Buggies
3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-road terrain and provides a smooth ride for baby. 3 wheeler pushchair can also be easier to maneuver and push than a four-wheel buggy especially if they have fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are positioned comfortably in the frame, delivering the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheeled buggy offers excellent stability, which is the reason it's a good choice for off road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road-style seat). They typically have larger front wheels, which cope well with kerbs and bumps as well as rough ground. Some models even have a lockable front wheel to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.

It's worth bearing in mind that 3-wheel buggies have a lower centre of gravity than models with four wheels which means that they topple over more easily. But, the top 3-wheel buggies have the perfect geometry and engineering to ensure that they remain stable in all weather conditions. They should be able turn on a dime and be easy to steer with one hand. They also come with a 360o rotating front wheel which is ideal for maneuvering over difficult terrain.

For extremely difficult surfaces be sure to choose models with air-filled tyres, also known as pneumatic tyres. They are made to handle non-paved tracks and should cope with mud, gravel, rock and so on. Many all-terrain buggies include a swivelling wheel on the front that can be locked to provide added stability when tackling very rough terrain.

A three-wheeled stroller is a great option for runners and those who enjoy walking fast uphill. This is especially true if you plan to connect to a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is a great example, with a wide-facing seat that can recline flat and comes with a new 5-point harness as well as storage space for all your kit (plus an extension of 50+ sun hood). It is lightweight and compact, and is suitable for use starting at birth. It can be used with a car seat or carrycot. It can also be used for jogging with a light pace, however, it isn't designed for serious runners.

Weight

If you're seeking a buggy that can tackle difficult terrain, then you should choose one with large tires. These are made to handle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks with ease while providing a smooth ride. They're also good for jogging as they come with suspension and are simple to get up and down kerbs. However, the drawback is that they are quite heavy to push.

The most suitable 3 wheel buggy for rough terrain is the Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels, and an swivel wheel lockable to the front making it extremely maneuverable. It has tyres with air which require pumping regularly. It can accommodate children as young as the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler enjoyed the shape of the seat and she found it easy to steer with her three-year-old child on the board.

Another option that is great is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, which has an adjustable handlebar and a hood made of high-quality with 50+ UV protection. It's also easy to move up and down kerbs and can fit in small car boots. It can also be used as a stroller with a carrycot for newborns or toddlers.

Fabric sling seats sit snugly inside the frame of the buggie, as opposed to over it like modular seats. This design delivers a lower center of gravity at the perfect height, making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you can never underestimate how often you'll be doing this when you're a new parent!)

Seating

There are many alternatives for seating options in 3 wheelers. For newborns, there is the option to use the carrycot and (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cosy and comfortable lying flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy) In addition, older babies and toddlers can sit in the parent-facing or world-facing seat that is large and padded and does have adjustable ventilation. It is important to note that the seats don't recline fully however they can be adjusted to the lowest level which will give your child plenty of headroom and room to move around.

A fabric sling is also available. It is advantageous in that it is placed within the frame, rather than on top as a seat that is modular. This results in a lower centre of gravity with perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push especially over bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath was impressed with the way this type of seat handled these challenges.

In addition to a big shopping basket, this type of buggy generally has very useful features like an extended 50+ UV hood, a simple brake pedal, and a few game-changing visibility lights that pop up from the handlebars and can be placed directly in front of the occupants to ensure their safety when tackling tricky terrain.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a single buggy that will adapt to your family's needs, there's the brand-new sport(tm) which is the first in the world to take one baby from day one and adapt to take 2 or even three once your baby has grown, all within the footprint of a single buggy.

Stores

The 3-wheeled frame is more stable and can be pushed with just one hand. It's also better for difficult terrain. The shopping basket is smaller than a 4-wheeler.

A high-quality ATP will have pneumatic tyres with a padded grip for better comfort, and an excellent suspension. It will also be equipped to carry car seats and a carrycot and you can use it right from the time you are born.

MFM's reviewers have discovered that the 3-wheeler frame won't fit through all the doors in their homes or small car boot - be sure you check the dimensions of the buggy when it's folded before purchasing for those who are concerned about space.

Look for a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best choice for your future and can save you money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most sought-after. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggie and later converted into twin buggies when your baby begins walking.

Tyres

These tyres cushion bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's journey more comfortable. They are commonly found on pushchairs, such as the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to be "an outstanding ride for my toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres make it easy to navigate cobbles and kerbs.

They can be difficult to maintain their inflation and need to be topped up frequently. These tyres are more prone to punctures, and it is recommended to always carry a repair kit as well as an spare inner tube with you when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be found on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres, but they're just as robust. PU tyres are easily identified by their matte finish and soft feel. They also slide on smooth and tidy surfaces.

If you rub your hands over the tyres, then you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it's sliding, then it is a rubber or PU. You can also verify that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by sliding the tyres on a clean, flat surface They'll roll easily and fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. The downside of this is that the foam could expand and cause your buggy to feel less stable, because it loses its springy quality. Also, these types of tyres can frequently be noisy, as they generate a lot of noise as you turn and make your way through town.
