We performed polarized Raman spectroscopy on mechanically exfoliated few-layer MoTe2 samples and observed both 1T' and Td phases at room temperature. Few-layer 1T' and Td MoTe2 exhibited a significant difference especially in interlayer vibration modes, from which the interlayer coupling strengths were extracted using the linear chain model strong in-plane anisotropy was observed in both phases. Furthermore, temperature-dependent Raman measurements revealed a peculiar phase transition behavior in few-layer 1T' MoTe2. In contrast to bulk 1T' MoTe2 crystals, where the phase transition to the Td phase occurs at ∼250 K, the temperature-driven phase transition to the Td phase is increasingly suppressed as the thickness is reduced, and the transition and the critical temperature varied dramatically from sample to sample even for the same thickness. Raman spectra of intermediate phases that correspond to neither 1T' nor Td phase with different interlayer vibration modes were observed, which suggests that several metastable phases exist with similar total energies.A series of new fungicides that can inhibit the succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) was classified and named as SDH inhibitors by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee in 2009. To develop more potential SDH inhibitors, we designed and synthesized a novel series of N-(substituted pyridine-4-yl)-1-(substituted phenyl)-5-trifluoromethyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamide derivatives, 4a-4i, namely, 5a-5h, 6a-6h, and 7a-7j. The bioassay results demonstrated that some title compounds exhibited excellent antifungal activity against four tested phytopathogenic fungi (Gibberella zea, Fusarium oxysporum, Cytospora mandshurica, and Phytophthora infestans). The EC50 values were 1.8 μg/mL for 7a against G. zeae, 1.5 and 3.6 μg/mL for 7c against F. oxysporum and C. mandshurica, respectively, and 6.8 μg/mL for 7f against P. infestans. The SDH enzymatic activity testing revealed that the IC50 values of 4c, 5f, 7f, and penthiopyrad were 12.5, 135.3, 6.9, and 223.9 μg/mL, respectively. The molecular docking results of this series of title compounds with SDH model demonstrated that the compounds could completely locate inside of the pocket, the body fragment formed H bonds, and the phenyl ring showed a π-π interaction with Arg59, suggesting that these novel 5-trifluoromethyl-pyrazole-4-carboxamide derivatives might target SDH. These results could provide a benchmark for understanding the antifungal activity against the phytopathogenic fungus P. Go6976 infestans and prompt us to discover more potent SDH inhibitors.Concentrations of bisphenol A (BPA) and its analogues (together with their chlorinated derivatives are referred to as BPs) were measured in 181 breastmilk samples collected from 9 provinces in China in 2014. There were no differences (p > 0.05) in BPA, BPF, BPS, or total BP levels in the urban and rural regions or the northern and southern regions. BPA accounted for approximately 70% of the BPs and BPF accounted for more than 20% of the BPs in breast milk samples. These semiconductor materials showed a rock-salt- or wurtzite-type structure depending on the combined effect of the synthetic conditions and the characteristics of the group II elements. Additionally, the rock-salt-type structures of CaSnN2 and MgSnN2 (i.e., the ambient-pressure phase) were different from those predicted using first-principles calculations. Further, on the basis of first-principles calculations and consideration of the pressure effect, the recovered CaSnN2 sample showed an R3̅m structure. CaSnN2 and MgSnN2 showed a band gap of 2.3-2.4 eV, which is suitable for overcoming the green-light-gap problem. These semiconductors also showed a strong cathode luminescence peak at room temperature, and generalized gradient approximation (GGA) calculations revealed that CaSnN2 has a direct band gap. Here, we fabricated sugar beet pectin-bovine serum albumin nanoparticles (SBNPs) with a mean particle size of 180 ± 5.2 nm through a genipin cross-linking strategy to stabilize a type of Pickering water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) emulsion and co-encapsulated betanin and curcumin. First, the W1/O emulsion was homogenized with gelatin (the gelling agent) in the water phase and polyglycerol polyricinoleate (a lipophilic surfactant) in the oil phase. Later, W1/O was homogenized with another water phase containing SBNPs. The microstructure of the emulsion was regulated by the particle concentration (c) and W1/O volume fraction (Φ), especially the gel-like high internal phase emulsions were formed at the Φ up to 70%. In this case, betanin was encapsulated in the internal water phase (encapsulation efficiency = 65.3%), whereas curcumin was in the medium-chain triglyceride (encapsulation efficiency = 84.1%). Meanwhile, the shelf stability of betanin and curcumin was improved. Furthermore, the stability of bioactive compounds was potentiated by an emulsion gel in simulated gastrointestinal digestion, resulting in higher bioaccessibility. The aforementioned results suggest that SBNP-stabilized Pickering W/O/W emulsions could be a potential alternative to co-encapsulate betanin and curcumin with enhancement of shelf stability and bioaccessibility.This work proposed a new sensing strategy for protease detection by converting a homogeneous assay into a surface-tethered electrochemical analysis. Streptavidin (SA), a tetramer protein, was used as the sensing unit based on the SA-biotin coupling chemistry. Caspase-3 was used as the model analyte, and a biotinylated peptide with a sequence of biotin-GDEVDGK-biotin was designed as the substrate. Specifically, the peptide substrate could induce an assembly of SA to form (SA-biotin-GDEVDGK-biotin) n aggregates through SA-biotin interactions, which was confirmed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The peptide substrate-induced assembly of SA was facilely initiated on an electrode-liquid surface by modification of the electrode with SA. The in situ formation of (SA-biotin-GDEVDGK-biotin) n aggregates created an insulating layer, thus limiting the electron transfer of ferricyanide. Once the peptide substrate was cleaved into two shorter fragments (biotin-GDEVD and GK-biotin) by caspase-3, the resulting products would compete with biotin-GDEVDGK-biotin to bind SA proteins immobilized on the electrode surface and distributed in a solution, thus preventing the in situ formation of (SA-biotin-GDEVDGK-biotin) n assemblies. link2 With the simple principle of the substrate-induced assembly of SA, a dual-signal amplification was achieved with improved sensitivity. Taking advantage of high sensitivity, simple principle, and easy operation, this method can be augmented to design various surface-tethered biosensors for practical applications.This work demonstrates the fabrication of surface-textured microcapsules formed from emulsion droplets, which are stabilized by an interlocking mesh of needle-like crystals. Crystals of the small-organic-compound decane-1,10-bis(cyclohexyl carbamate) are formed within the geometric confinement of the droplets, through precipitation from a binary-solvent-dispersed phase. This binary mixture consists of a volatile solvent and nonvolatile carrier oil. Crystallization is facilitated upon supersaturation due to evaporation of the volatile solvent. Microcapsule diameter can be easily tuned using microfluidics. This approach also proves to be scalable when using conventional mixers, yielding spikey microcapsules with diameters in the range of 10-50 μm.
