2-62.3 μmol/m3. The aromatic groups were the maximum in the firewood aerosols, about 1.4 and 3.7 times higher than the crop residue and the mixed fuel aerosols, respectively. The total functional groups, i.e., the sum of all the observed groups, significantly correlated with C-H (r = 0.96) and WSOC (r = 0.7), suggesting the higher contribution of aliphatic groups in the WSOC fraction. WSOC examined in this study fits well in the established 1H NMR source identification fingerprints of urban aerosols. However, biomass cooking aerosols do not fit the established biomass burning organic aerosols (BBOAs) boundaries, exhibiting a smaller relative contribution of carbon-oxygen double bonds and a less oxidised character than open-field burning. Our results provide essential insights into the nature of urban atmospheric, near-traffic and biomass cooking OAs in India.Contamination of fish with heavy metals (Heavy metals) is one of the most severe environmental and human health issues. However, the contamination levels in tropical fishes from Bangladesh are still unknown. To this end, the evaluated concentrations of arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) in 12 different commercially important fish species (Tenualosa ilisha, Gudusia chapra, Otolithoides pama, Setipinna phasa, Glossogobius giuris, Pseudeutropius atherinoides, Polynemus paradiseus, Sillaginopsis panijus, Corica soborna, Amblypharyngodon mola, Trichogaster fasciata, and Wallago attu) were collected from the Kirtankhola River assess human health risk for the consumers, both in the summer and winter seasons. Toxic metals surpassed the acceptable international limits in P. atherinoides, P. paradiseus, S. panijus, C. soborna, and W. attu. The target hazard quotient (THQ) revealed that non-carcinogenic health effects (HI less then 1) for children and adults, and the carcinogenic risk (CR) indicated safety. Results show that children are more susceptible to carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic hazards from higher As. The multivariate analysis justified that heavy metals were from anthropogenic actions. The lessening of toxic metals might need strict rules and regulations as metal enrichment would continue to increase in this tidal river from both the anthropogenic and natural sources. This study presents a comparative analysis of several commercial removable materials for radioactive decontamination of steel surfaces using 241Am as representative radionuclide. The selection criteria of removable coatings for this study included a history of application, commercial availability, easy handling conditions and different composition and formulation. Carbon steel and stainless steel coupons were utilized as common industrial materials, and the experimental series were expanded to include the rusting treatment of these surfaces as it is common for decommissioned nuclear facilities. Radionuclide 241Am was deposited on the coupon surfaces and used to evaluate decontamination efficiency of the removable coatings, which were pre-screened for the ease of application and removal from the surface. Selected coatings were characterized with Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis, decontamination efficiencies for different types of steel surfaces, and potential enhancement otors.Fluoride is one of the essential trace elements for the human body, but excessive fluoride will cause serious environmental and health problems. This paper summarizes researches on the removal of fluoride from aqueous solutions using newly developed or improved biomass materials and biomass-like organic materials in recent years. These biomass materials are classified into chitosan, microorganisms, lignocellulose plant materials, animal attribute materials, biological carbonized materials and biomass-like organic materials, which are explained and analyzed. By comparing adsorption performance and mechanism of adsorbents for removing fluoride, it is found that carbonizing materials and modifying adsorbents with metal ions are more beneficial to improving adsorption efficiency and the adsorption mechanisms are various. The adsorption capacities are still considerable after regeneration. This paper not only reviews the properties of these materials for fluoride removal, but also focuses on the comparison of materials performance and fluoride removal mechanism. Herein, by discussing the improved adsorption performance and research technology development of biomass materials and biomass-like organic materials, various innovative ideas are provided for adsorbing and removing contaminants.Monohaloacetic acids (mono-HAAs), a class of disinfection by-products widely occurred in drinking water, receives significant attention due to their extremely high toxicity. Many studies on the biological toxicity of mono-HAAs have been reported, yet the toxic effects of mono-HAAs on human renal cells (kidney is one of the target organs for disinfection by-products) has not been involved. click here Studies on organic precursors for mono-HAAs formation were also very limited due to their lower levels as compared to di-HAAs and tri-HAAs. Based on this, the formation of mono-HAAs after chlorination of some typical source water samples and their relationship with water quality parameters were investigated. Meanwhile, the cytotoxicity of monochloroacetic acid (MCAA), monobromoacetic acid (MBAA), and monoiodoacetic acid (MIAA) were tested using human embryonic kidney cells (HEK-293 T cells). The results showed that the levels of mono-HAAs formed during chlorination of source water samples were between 0.44 and 0.87 μg/L. Fore for the cytotoxicity of mono-HAAs on HEK 293 T cells.
The bicentric HypoFocal phase 2 trial investigates the implementation of molecular imaging with positron-emission tomography targeting prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA-PET) into modern focal dose-escalation radiation therapy (RT) concepts in 2 nonrandomized arms. We present the planned safety analysis after 6 months of follow-up.

Intermediate- and high-risk localized primary prostate cancer patients staged with multiparametric magnet resonance tomography and PSMA-PET were either treated with focal dose-escalated moderately hypofractionated RT (arm A) or single fraction high-dose-rate brachytherapy followed by external beam RT (arm B). PSMA-PET was used in addition to primary prostate cancer to define the intraprostatic gross tumor volume. Gastrointestinal and genitourinary toxicities were assessed according to Common Toxicity Criteria for Adverse Events (version 5.0) criteria. International Prostate Symptom Score was measured and quality of life assessed with European Organisation for Research andaintained a good quality of life and a low toxicity profile after 6 months of follow-up.We had previously found that chicken eyes with normal visual experience grow larger when they have more L cones, relative to M cones. It is not known whether also S cone abundancies may affect eye size, whether cone abundancy ratios can also affect the amount of deprivation myopia that is induced by diffusers in front of the eyes, and whether broadband white light with added energy in the blue may reduce the development of deprivation myopia. Therefore, chickens were monocularly treated with diffusers and raised under three different light conditions with increasing amounts of energy in the blue but with matched total illuminance. L, M and S cones were counted in fresh retinal tissues after the experiments. It was found that adding energy in the blue did not significantly inhibit deprivation myopia, nor did it make uncovered eyes more hyperopic. However, more S cones, relative to L cones, were correlated with more hyperopic refractions in eyes with normal vision. M to L, L to S and M to S cone ratios were also correlated with the amount of induced deprivation myopia. Interestingly, in deprivation myopia, the correlations between cone abundancy ratios with refractive states had reverted signs eyes with more S cones developed more myopia. Since cone abundancy ratios remained correlated in both eyes, no matter whether eyes had normal vision, were deprived or were exposed to different light spectra, they appear genetically determined. We conclude that, among other factors, inherited cone abundancy ratios determine both normal refractive development and deprivation myopia in the chicken while adding more blue light to a broadband light spectrum had no effect.Recent epidemiological studies suggest that some patients with diabetes progress to kidney failure without significant albuminuria and glomerular injury, suggesting a critical role of kidney tubular epithelial cell (TEC) injury in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) progression. However, the major risk factors contributing to TEC injury and progression in DKD remain unclear. We previously showed that expression of endoplasmic reticulum-resident protein Reticulon-1A (RTN1A) increased in human DKD, and the increased RTN1A expression promoted TEC injury through endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response. Here, we show that TEC-specific RTN1A overexpression worsened DKD in mice, evidenced by enhanced tubular injury, tubulointerstitial fibrosis, and kidney function decline. But RTN1A overexpression did not exacerbate diabetes-induced glomerular injury or albuminuria. Notably, RTN1A overexpression worsened both ER stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in TECs under diabetic conditions by regulation of ER-mitochondria contacts. Mechanistically, ER-bound RTN1A interacted with mitochondrial hexokinase-1 and the voltage-dependent anion channel-1 (VDAC1), interfering with their association. This disengagement of VDAC1 from hexokinase-1 resulted in activation of apoptotic and inflammasome pathways, leading to TEC injury and loss. Thus, our observations highlight the importance of ER-mitochondrial crosstalk in TEC injury and the salient role of RTN1A-mediated ER-mitochondrial contact regulation in DKD progression.
Direct peroral cholangioscopy (POC) can be useful when combined with narrow-band imaging (NBI) to explore the etiologies of indeterminate biliary strictures. We evaluated the efficacy of NBI compared with that of conventional white-light imaging (WLI) during POC diagnosis of indeterminate biliary strictures.

Consecutive patients with indeterminate biliary strictures were enrolled from 2016 to 2019. The primary outcome was diagnostic accuracy, and secondary outcomes were technical success, adverse events, and visualization quality when predicting malignancy.

Seventy-one patients underwent direct POC under NBI during targeted biopsy sampling. The strictures were successfully explored and adequate biopsy samples obtained in 67 of 71 patients (94.4%). In terms of visual impression, WLI and NBI afforded 75.0% and 87.5% sensitivity, 82.9 and 91.4% specificity, and 82.8 and 91.3% accuracy, respectively. The areas under the WLI and NBI receiver-operating characteristic curves were .80 and .96 (P= .01). Under NBI, the visualization quality of surface structures, microvessels, and lesional margins was higher than that under conventional WLI (P< .05).

Direct POC under NBI effectively and accurately predicts malignancies of indeterminate biliary strictures. NBI effectively illuminated surface structures, microvessels, and lesional margins.
