Methods Forty-two patients carrying pathogenic variants of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes (MMR group), 9 carrying BRCA variants, and 11 carrying BRCA-like variants (BRCA/BRCA-like group) who met LS clinical criteria were enrolled in this study. Clinical characteristics, pedigrees, and survival rates were compared and BRCA variants were analyzed. Results The earliest CRC-onset age and tumor differentiation were higher in the BRCA/BRCA-like group than in the MMR group. Metachronous CRCs were more numerous in the MMR group, resulting in a higher progression-free survival rate in the BRCA/BRCA-like group. Extra-colorectal cancers were more frequently observed in the BRCA/BRCA-like group. BRCA2 and BRCA1 variants were clustered in exons 11 and 4/7, respectively. Conclusion BRCA and BRCA-like variants in CRC patients with LS showed moderate penetrance. BRCA/BRCA-like variant carriers had a higher risk for extra-colorectal cancers. Here, we report clinical outcomes in dogs treated with single-fraction SRT; we also explore technical aspects of SRT treatment planning. A single-institution retrospective study was performed, including any dog with a pituitary mass (PM) that was treated using a standardized single fraction (16 Gy) SRT protocol between 2014 and 2017. Via medical records review, 13 cases were identified. Nine dogs neurologically improved after SRT. Four dogs experienced MRI-documented tumor volume reduction. To uncover the mechanism through which Rg1 protects against cardiac injury induced by diabetes, we mimicked diabetic conditions by culturing H9C2 cells in high glucose/palmitate. Rg1 had no toxic effect, and it alleviated the high glucose/palmitate damage in a dose-dependent manner, as indicated by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay and lactate dehydrogenase release to the culture medium. Rg1 prevented high glucose/palmitate-induced cell apoptosis, assessed using cleaved caspase-3 and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labelling staining. Rg1 also reduced high glucose-/palmitate-induced reactive oxygen species formation and increased intracellular antioxidant enzyme activity. Serine paired with arginine (ion-paired amino acid, IPA) shows enhanced lipophilicity, skin permeation, and exfoliation efficacy. Aim This study was conducted to determine whether exfoliation using an emulsion containing IPA could reduce enlarged facial pores and improve the dermis density. Methods IPA formation was validated by spectroscopic analysis. Enhanced permeability and exfoliation efficacy were evaluated ex vivo using porcine skin. In a clinical trial, healthy Korean women aged 20-49 years (mean age ± SD 35.6 ± 8.6, n = 64) were evaluated, and the right and left sides of the cheeks were randomly chosen. An emulsion containing 4.0% IPA and placebo emulsion were applied to each side for 6 weeks. To evaluate pore sizes following treatment, the number of enlarged facial pores, inner skin structures from the stratum corneum to epidermal-dermal interface, and dermal density on each cheek of the participants were assessed. Results IPA showed a significantly increased partition coefficient in n-octanol-water. In porcine skin, permeation of serine after 12 hour was 70% higher for the IPA than for serine alone at the same percent weight concentrations. IPA, effective mild exfoliator, can be used as a major ingredient for the cosmeceutical skincare products in the future.This aim of this study was to explore the decision-making process of Care Navigators in prescribing Telecare for older people living at home. The study took place in the South of England. A structured model of decision-making was used as the theoretical framework and a qualitative approach was employed. Care Navigators (n = 7), acting on behalf of the Local Authority as 'external trusted assessors' were interviewed according to a semi-structured interview schedule. Documentary evidence of decision-making (Telecare Reasoning Forms) (n = 10), were also analysed and added to the interview data. The main themes identified were the process of decision-making, training needs, and the support of Care Navigators and partnership working. Care Navigators adopted a complex decision-making process involving information gathering, information synthesis, consideration of alternatives to Telecare and implementation. Decision-making has a strong ethical dimension, especially around funding. Training focused on the functioning and technical aspects of equipment. However, other training needs were identified in order to support decision-making, for example, assessing mental capacity. Peer support networks were valuable to Care Navigators and they developed good relationships with social care and Telecare provider staff. However, professionals making referrals to the Care Navigators for Telecare often did not understand their role or funding eligibility. In conclusion, Care Navigators are well-placed to prescribe Telecare in terms of knowledge and decision-making skills. Comprehensive training is necessary in order to support decision-making. Patients were refractory to medical therapies and had previously failed intravesical botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) at other centers secondary to urinary retention and difficulty with self-catheterization. Placement of an Interstim II device (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota) for sacral neuromodulation (SNM) as alternative third-line treatment partially improved overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms while significantly improving voiding symptoms. Postvoid residual (PVR) of patients improved from a median of 118 mL (110-125 mL) to 20 mL (18-26 mL) and 213 mL (195-230 mL) to 70 mL (60-73 mL), respectively.
