Processed foods are more susceptible to MPs as contamination can be introduced during processing and packaging. However, the risk posed by MPs in processed foods remained unclear. This work aims to critically review the available data for MPs in 11 types of possessed foods and to conduct a preliminary risk assessment of MPs in processed foods. For a comprehensive evaluation, three indicators were selected and determined, namely chemical risk, pollution load, and estimated daily intake (EDI). learn more Our results suggest that nori has the highest chemical risk, followed by canned fish, beverages, table salt, and other food items. In the case of pollution load, nori and milk fall into the risk category of Ⅳ and Ⅲ respectively. Here, we investigated characters of root growth of maize seedlings exposed to BPA for 8 d and without BPA for 3 d, and a series of indicators on reactive oxygen homeostasis and nitrogen assimilation were measured. High-dose BPA(15 and 50 mg·L-1) suppressed the root growth and caused increased contents of O2ˑ-, H2O2 and MDA in maize seedling roots. The disturbed ROS homeostasis resulted from the change of antioxidant enzymes, including the increase of APX, GPX, and CAT, and decrease of SOD and POD, and a decrease of antioxidant substance GSH. Meanwhile, High-dose BPA caused a decrease in the soluble protein content, nitrate reductase (NR), glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), and glutamine oxoglutarate aminotransferase (GOGAT) under the BPA processing phase and recovery period. The low-dose BPA(1.5 and 5 mg·L-1)significantly promoted root growth of maize seedlings and maintained the ROS homeostasis through antioxidant enzyme APX and GPX eliminating redundant ROS. The aim of this study was to further explore the regulatory ways underlying overexpression of EGF, TGFα, and HSP90 in these cells. The present results showed that both Trx and GSH systems were stimulated in arsenite-treated cells, and ROS levels in 2 μM arsenite-treated cells did not changed obviously; however, ROS levels in 4 μM arsenite-treated cells increased significantly. By using the antioxidant and specific inhibitors, we found that in 2 μM arsenite-treated cells, JNK/NF-κB signaling pathway was involved in overexpression of EGF and TGFα, and ERK/NF-κB signaling pathway contributed to HSP90 overexpression, however in 4 μM arsenite-treated cells, both ERK/ and JNK/NF-κB signaling pathways were involved in overexpression of EGF, TGFα, and HSP90, and PI3K/AKT/NF-κB signaling pathway contributed to overexpression of EGF and TGFα. Furthermore, our results also showed that the Trx1-TXNIP-NLRP3 axis was activated in arsenite-treated cells, and played a pivotal role in activation of the signaling pathways involved in overexpression of EGF, TGFα, and HSP90. Anti-pollution products are on the rise in the cosmetic market but so far, there is no established method to directly assess the impact of pollution on the skin and to test the efficacy of anti-pollution products. To address this problem, two different chambers were developed for the reproducible exposure to realistic air pollutant concentrations. One chamber for the exclusive use of excised skin and hair samples, the second chamber for ex vivo and in vivo measurements. Measurements of nicotine next to the investigated skin area allow conclusions to be drawn on the particle concentration to which the skin is exposed. The results prove that most of the waters considered in this study are in good conditions for drinking water consumption, in terms of As and/or F- content. A low proportion of the analysed samples present HGT≥ 1 levels (4% and 7% for As and F-, respectively). The spatial distribution of the highest As and/or F- concentrations (via BLC values) has been analysed using GIS tools. Within 48 h, with prolonged Zn exposure, the expression levels of SOD, CAT, and GST genes in G. affinis first increased and then fell before finally rising. The expression levels of IL-1β and IL-8 mRNA showed varying degrees of upward trends, and the expression of IL-8 was the highest for all gill tissue. To sum up, Cu and Zn have strong toxic effects on G. affinis, which makes it possible to use G. affinis as indicator organisms for aquatic environmental pollution.

) exposure increases local and systemic interleukin-6 (IL-6). However, the pathogenic role of IL-6 signalling following PM
exposure, particularly in the development of pulmonary dysfunction and abnormal glucose homeostasis, has hardly been investigated.

In the study, IL-6 receptor (IL-6R)-deficient (IL-6R
) and wildtype littermate (IL-6R
) mice were exposed to concentrated ambient PM
(CAP) or filtered air (FA), and their pulmonary and metabolic responses to these exposures were analyzed. Our results demonstrated that IL-6R deficiency markedly alleviated PM
exposure-induced increases in lung inflammatory markers including the inflammation score of histological analysis, the number of macrophages in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and mRNA expressions of TNFα, IL-1β and IL-6 and abnormalities in lung function test. However, IL-6R deficiency did not reduce the hepatic insulin resistance nor systemic glucose intolerance and insulin resistance induced by PM
exposure.

Our findings support the crucial role of IL-6 signalling in the development of pulmonary inflammation and dysfunction due to PM
exposure but question the putative central role of pulmonary inflammation for the extra-pulmonary dysfunctions following PM
exposure, providing a deep mechanistic insight into the pathogenesis caused by PM
exposure.
