Kdm5a promotes T cell activation in endemic lupus erythematosus by means of downregulation regarding A20 simply by histone modification.
n). Post-implementation, elevated initiation rates were retained over the 7 quarters (p = 0.81) (maintenance). Conclusions An H-FLS based in two tertiary hospital sites significantly improved use of osteoporosis medications after hip fracture in both males and females.Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Drive for Muscularity Scale (McCreary and Sasse, J Am Coll Health 48(6) 297-304, 2000) (DMS) among a sample of Jamaican male weightlifters. selleck kinase inhibitor Methods 205 weightlifters (Mage = 28.49, SD = 9.61) from rural and urban areas in Jamaica, completed the DMS, the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 Items (DASS-21) and the Body Areas Satisfaction Scale (BASS) in a cross-sectional design. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed on the DMS and conventional fit indices used to determine model fit. Measurement invariance was examined for urban and rural participants. Correlations between the DMS scores and the DASS-21 and BASS were determined to examine the validity of the scale. Results Confirmatory factor analysis of the original 2-factor model (muscularity-oriented body image and muscularity behaviors) resulted in overall good fit (CFI = .94, TLI = 0.93, RMSEA = 0.06 [0.05, 0.08], SRMR = 0.08). Also, measurement invariance was observed between weightlifters from rural and urban areas. The DMS was principally correlated with specific body areas previously associated with male's body dissatisfaction (muscle tone, upper torso and weight) (rs = 0.17 to .47). The DMS showed significant weak to moderate negative correlations with the DASS-21 (rs = - 0.16 to - 0.32). Adequate levels of internal consistency were observed (omega = 0.75-0.88). Conclusion The DMS showed to be a valid instrument to evaluate the drive for muscularity in Jamaican weightlifters and has utility in informing further research, diagnosis and treatment of body image-related pathologies. Level of evidence Level V, cross-sectional descriptive study.Mutations in myotubularin-related protein 2 (MTMR2) were shown to underlie Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 4B1 (CMT4B1) disease, a rare autosomal recessive demyelinating neuropathy, characterized by severe early-onset motor and sensory neuropathy. We describe three siblings of consanguineous kindred presenting with hypotonia, reduced muscle tone, action tremor, dysmetria, areflexia, and skeletal deformities, consistent with a diagnosis of CMT. Whole-exome sequencing identified a novel homozygous c.336_337 insertion mutation in MTMR2, resulting in a frameshift and putative truncated protein. In this concise report, we discuss the clinical presentation of this rare disease and support the limited number of observations regarding the pathogenesis of MTMR2-related neuropathies. Background Despite adequate glucocorticoid (GC) and mineralocorticoid (MC) replacement therapy, patients suffering from primary adrenal insufficiency (AI) have an increased mortality, mainly due to cardiovascular diseases. Only little knowledge exists on the contribution of MC substitution to the cardiovascular risk. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of plasma renin concentration on parameters of micro- and macrovascular function. Methods 26 patients with primary AI [female = 18, age 51 (28; 78) years; BMI 24 (18; 40) kg/m2; disease duration 18 (5; 36) years] were included in this cross-sectional analysis. Intima media thickness (IMT) and pulse wave velocity (PWV) were investigated to assess macrovascular remodeling and arterial stiffness. Microvascular function was estimated by post-occlusive reactive hyperemia using laser Doppler fluxmetry. Baseline perfusion, biological zero, peak perfusion, time to peak and recovery time were recorded. Patients were grouped according to their median plasma renin concentration of previous visits (Reninhigh vs Reninlow) and were compared to a group of healthy women [age 44 (43; 46) years; BMI 24.2 (21.8; 27.5)]. Results PWV was significantly higher in AI patients compared to controls [9.9 (5; 18.5) vs 7.3 (6.8; 7.7) m/s; p less then .01], whereas no differences in microvascular function could be found. In Reninlow time to peak perfusion was significantly longer [6.0 (3; 15) vs 3.5 (1.5; 11) s; p less then .05], whereas no differences in IMT and PWV were observed between Reninhigh and Reninlow. No impact of GC dose was observed. Conclusions Microvascular function is not impaired in patients with primary AI under adequate replacement therapy, although higher renin concentrations are associated with subclinical improvements. No relation between RAAS activity and macrovascular function is observed, while arterial stiffness might be increased in primary AI.Atmospheric deposition particles are fine-sized having a high adsorption capacity. Therefore, they can easily transfer the contamination to other areas. Plants can absorb certain pollutants using their leaves and then accumulate them in their biomass. In this study, the spatial and temporal variability of air pollution was assessed using pine needles as the bioindicators of atmospheric pollution. The magnetic susceptibility (MS) at low and high frequencies (χlf, χhf) and the concentration of selected heavy metals of pine needles (Pinus mugo) were estimated in order to address the possible relationships between needles' MS and the heavy metal concentration in the city of Isfahan, central Iran. In addition, the relationship between the heavy metal concentration of pine needles and that of the atmospheric dust was examined using the published data. Tree pine needles were monthly sampled, from April to December 2015 (T1-T9), during 9 months, from 30 different sites in the Isfahan city. There were two treatments iarticularly the areas which are under the influence of anthropogenic and other traffic-related sources.Mechano-chemical treatment has been recognized to be a promising technology for the immobilization of heavy metals (HMs) in contaminated soils without the use of additional reagents. Despite this, very few studies aiming to investigate the applicability of this technology at full scale have been published so far. In this study, a quantitative approach was developed to provide process design information to scale-up from laboratory- into pilot-scale mechano-chemical reactors for immobilizing heavy metals in contaminated mining soil. In fact, after preliminary experiments with laboratory-scale ball mills, experiments have been carried out by taking advantage of milling devices suited for pilot-scale applications. The experimental data of this work, along with literature ones, have been quantitatively interpreted by means of a mathematical model allowing to describe the effect of milling dynamics on the HM immobilization kinetics for applications at different scales. The results suggest that the mechanical process can trigger specific physico-chemical phenomena leading to a significant reduction of HMs leached from mining soils. link2 Specifically, after suitably prolonged processing time, HM concentration in the leachate is lowered below the corresponding threshold limits. The observed behavior is well captured by the proposed model for different HMs and operating conditions. Therefore, the model might be exploited to infer design parameters for the implementation of this technique at the pilot and full scale. Moreover, it represents a valuable tool for designing and controlling mechano-chemical reactors at productive scale.Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are used in a wide range of sectors ranging from electronics to biomedicine, as well as in eutrophicated lake restoration due to their high P, N, and heavy metal adsorption capacity. This study assessed the effects of MNPs on mortality and morphometric changes of D. magna. According to the SEM, the synthesised MNPs were found to have spherical nanoparticles, be uniformly distributed, and have a homolithic size distribution of 50-110 nm. The EDX spectra confirmed the elemental structure and purities of these MNPs. A total of 396 neonates were used for short-term bioassays (96 h) through the MNPs in the laboratory (168 photoperiod). Experiments were applied in triplicate for each concentration of CuFe2O4, CoFe2O4, and NiFe2O4 MNPs and their respective control groups. Mortality and morphological measurements of each individual were recorded every 24 h. In the probit analysis, the 96-h LC50 (p less then 0.05) for CuFe2O4, CoFe2O4, and NiFe2O4 MNPs was calculated to be 1.455 mg L-1, 39.834 mg L-1, and 21.730 mg L-1, respectively. link3 CuFe2O4 MNPs were found to be more toxic than the other two MNPs. The concentrations of CuFe2O4, CoFe2O4, and NiFe2O4 MNPs drastically affected life span and morphologic growth of D. magna as a result of a short time exposure. The results of this study are useful for assessing what risks they pose to freshwater ecosystems. To regulate the water level and minimize the occurrence of water eutrophication in shallow lakes, dams and gates are often constructed in rivers. However, this practice may result in a deterioration of water quality in some estuaries. In the present study, using the correction of Nemerow pollution index (CNPI) and a redundancy analysis (RDA), water samples from different dammed rivers around Taihu Lake were compared to assess the pollution risk and identify the factors responsible for water eutrophication. The average total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total organic carbon (TOC) concentrations, and chemical oxygen demand (CODMn) were 2.45 ± 2.28, 0.08 ± 0.06, 43.01 ± 18.75, and 10.78 ± 4.86 mg L-1, respectively. The CNPI values indicated that approximately 76.47% of the estuarine water was moderately polluted (1 less then CNPI less then 7.28). A positive correlation was observed between dam construction and nutrient concentrations (e.g., rTN = 0.38, p less then 0.05; rTP = 0.89, p less then 0 dam operation is important to protect the water environment of Taihu Lake. This study aimed to investigate the effect of honeybee pollen as an antioxidant source in a maturation medium of sheep oocytes on the in vitro maturation rate, glutathione concentration, and gene expression. To our knowledge, this study might be the first of its kind in this field. Sheep oocytes were cultured in vitro with honeybee pollen at four different concentrations (0.0, 1.0, 10.0, and 50.0 μg/ml). The results indicated that the ratio of oocytes that reached metaphase II stage was higher in the honeybee pollen-treated groups than in the control group (p ≤ 0.05). The reduced glutathione (GSH) mean content of matured oocytes was 9.85 nmol/25 oocytes, when honeybee pollen was added to the in vitro maturation (IVM) medium at a concentration of 1.0 μg/ml, compared with 5.84 and 4.44 nmol when using 10.0 and 50.0 μg/ml honeybee pollen, respectively. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in glutathione concentration between the control and 1.0 μg/ml honeybee pollen groups. Expression of candidate genes (GDF-9, BAX, Cyclin B, C-MOS, and IGF1) was upregulated in oocytes cultured with honeybee pollen when compared with oocytes cultured without honeybee pollen. In conclusion, the addition of honeybee pollen at a concentration of 1.0 μg/ml to IVM medium improved the in vitro maturation rate of sheep oocytes, increased the glutathione concentration, and improved gene expression.
