BACKGROUND Proxy respondent-someone who assists the intended respondent or responds on their behalf-are widely applied in the measurement of health-related quality of life (HRQL). However, proxies may not provide the same responses as the intended respondents, which may bias the findings. OBJECTIVES To determine whether the use of proxies is related to socio-demographic characteristics of the intended respondent, and to assess the possible proxy response bias of Chinese version of EQ-5D-3 L in general population. METHODS A cross-sectional study based on a provincially representative sample from 2013 National Health Service Survey (NHSS) in Shaanxi, China was performed. HRQL was measured by Chinese version of EQ-5D-3 L. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to get matched pairs of self-reports and proxy-reports. Before and after PSM, univariate logistic and linear models including the indicator of proxy response as the only independent variable, were employed to assess the possible proxy response bias of the dimensional and overall health status of EQ-5D-3 L respectively. RESULTS 19.9% of the responses involved a proxy. Before PSM, the proxy-report group was younger in age and reported less unhealthy lifestyle, lower prevalence of disease, and less hospitalization than the self-report group. After PSM, it showed that the proxy-report group was statistically more likely to report health problem on each dimension of EQ-5D-3 L, with odds ratios larger than one comparing with self-report group. The means of EQ-5D-3 L index and EQ VAS of proxy-report group were 0.022 and 0.834 lower than self-report group. CONCLUSIONS Significantly negative proxy response bias was found in Chinese EQ-5D-3 L in general population, and the magnitude of the bias was larger in physical dimensions than psychological dimensions after using PSM to control confounders. The state-of-the-art hernia meshes, used in hospitals for hernia repair, are predominantly polymeric textile-based constructs that present high mechanical strength, but lack antimicrobial properties. Consequently, preventing bacterial colonization of implanted prosthetic meshes is of major clinical relevance for patients undergoing hernia repair. In this study, the co-axial electrospinning technique was investigated for the development of a novel mechanically stable structure incorporating dual drug release antimicrobial action. Core/shell structured nanofibers were developed, consisting of Nylon-6 in the core, to provide the appropriate mechanical stability, and Chitosan/Polyethylene oxide in the shell to provide bacteriostatic action. The core/shell structure consisted of a binary antimicrobial system incorporating 5-chloro-8-quinolinol in the chitosan shell, with the sustained release of Poly(hexanide) from the Nylon-6 core of the fibers. Homogeneous nanofibers with a "beads-in-fiber" architecture were observed by TEM, and validated by FTIR and XPS. The composite nanofibrous meshes significantly advance the stress-strain responses in comparison to the counterpart single-polymer electrospun meshes. The antimicrobial effectiveness was evaluated in vitro against two of the most commonly occurring pathogenic bacteria; S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, in surgical site infections. This study illustrates how the tailoring of core/shell nanofibers can be of interest for the development of active antimicrobial surfaces.BACKGROUND Myopia is increasing in prevalence and is currently recognized as a significant public health issue worldwide, particularly in China. Once myopia develops, appropriate clinical interventions need to be prescribed to slow its progression. Currently, several publications indicate that myopic defocus (MD) retards eye growth and myopia progression. However, no clinical trials have compared the outcomes of different MD spectacle lenses in the same observational group, especially in mainland China. The aim of the present study is to compare the myopia control efficiency of two different MD spectacle lenses defocus incorporated multiple segments (DIMS) lenses and Apollo progressive addition lenses (PALs). METHODS The trial is designed as a 3-year, prospective, randomized, multicenter clinical trial of schoolchildren treated with DIMS lenses and PALs. A total of 600 Chinese primary school children aged 6-12 years will be recruited, and each group is intended to include 300 subjects. The inclusion criteria and visual function. In fact, reliable health-related quality of life data are even more critical in developing countries to advocate for government agencies to develop national haemophilia care programmes. However, validated tools are not yet available in sub-Saharan African countries. AIMS The purpose of this study was to complete the cultural adaptation and validation of the Canadian Haemophilia Outcomes-Kids' Life Assessment Tool version2.0 (CHO-KLAT2.0) in Côte d'Ivoire. METHODS The process included four steps a linguistic adaptation, cognitive debriefing interviews with children and their parents, a validity assessment with the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) as a comparator, and a test-retest reliability assessment. RESULTS The initial Ivoirian version of the CHO-KLAT2.0 was developed through a linguistic adaptation performed in close collaboration with members of the local mwas 0.879 (95% CI 0.673; 0.954) for the child-reported questionnaires and 0.880 (95% CI 0.694; 0.955) for the proxy-reported questionnaires. CONCLUSIONS A cross-culturally adapted and validated version of the CHO-KLAT2.0 for Côte d'Ivoire is now available that enables baseline values to be obtained and intervention outcomes (namely, prophylaxis) to be measured in Ivoirian boys with haemophilia.BACKGROUND The present study aims to explore the functions of circular RNA hsa_circ_0004812 in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and its underlying molecular mechanisms. METHODS The expression of circular RNA (circRNA)_0004812 was examined using qRT-PCR and Western blot in blood and liver tissues from CHB patients and healthy volunteers. In the in vitro study, the expression levels of circular RNA hsa_circ_0004812, miR-1287-5p, interferon (IFN)-α, IFN-β were determined using qRT-PCR and Western blotting in HBV-infected hepatoma cells, respectively. Luciferase and biotin pull-down assays were used to investigate the interactions between miR-1287-5p and circ_0004812. N-Methyl-D-aspartic acid RESULTS Levels of circ_0004812 were upregulated in CHB patients and HBV-infected hepatoma cells. Knockdown of circ_0004812 increased the expression of IFN-α and IFN-β in HBV-infected Huh7 cells. MiR-1287-5p was identified as a target of circ_0004812 whose overexpression inhibited the expression of miR-1287-5p. Additionally, circ_0004812 promoted the expression of Follistatin-related protein (FSTL) 1 through inhibiting miR-1287-5p.
