Bio-aerosols have a significant role in indoor air pollution as they can be pathogenic or cause an allergic reaction following inhalation, ingestion or skin absorption. This study aimed to assess bacterial bio-aerosols in the indoor air concentration of gyms, and its relationship with gym area per person, temperature, and relative humidity. Sampling was performed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) method 0800-0999 and using an Anderson single-step sampler. Vismodegib Fifty-five gyms were selected with simple random sampling method and 165 samples collected for evaluation of bacterial bio-aerosols. The concentrations of airborne bacteria were measured as colony-forming units per cubic meter of air (CFU/m3) collected by impaction on to tryptic soy agar plates. The maximum and minimum densities of bacteria in the air of gyms were 877 and 117 CFU/m3, respectively. Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus and Escherichia Coli had an order of the highest to lowest frequency among the microorganisms, respectively. Generally, with increasing temperature and humidity, the density of bacteria was increased. The higher amount of the microorganisms was observed in the air of gyms in the lower available area per person. Athletes are at risk of high exposure to the bacterial bio-aerosol that can affect their health.
Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is a rare disorder of heme synthesis. Patients with EPP mainly show symptoms of photosensitivity, but approximately 20% of EPPs are associated with the liver-related complications. We report a case of breast cancer in a 48-year-old female patient with EPP in whom meticulous perioperative management was required in order to avoid complications resulting from this disease.

The patient was diagnosed with EPP at the age of 33 and had a rich family history of the disease. For right breast cancer initially considered as TisN0M0 (Stage 0), the right mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy were performed, while the final stage was pT1bN0M0, pStage I. In the perioperative period, we limited the drug use and monitored light wavelength measurements. Besides, we covered surgical lights, headlights, and laryngoscope's light with a special polyimide film that filtered the wavelength of light causing dermal photosensitivity. After the surgery, any emerging complications were closely monitored.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2) and was declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 11 March 2020 which is leading to significant morbidity and mortality. In compliance with WHO recommendation of movement restrictions, many countries have imposed compulsory self-quarantine and restricted movements of their citizenries (lockdown/sit at home) and closure of businesses and borders as preventive measures to the fast-spreading virus. Consequently, this decision has made the emergence of behaviors that are detrimental to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) which are the leading cause of the global mortality rate.

Osteoporosis is a major health issue in boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Data on the specific bone deficits and microarchitectural alterations in children with DMD were limited. This study aimed to assess the bone microarchitectural alterations in boys with DMD on long-term glucocorticoid using high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT).

This was a cross-sectional, case-control study. Boys with DMD older than 5years with no prior history of symptomatic fracture and had been on long-term glucocorticoid treatment were recruited from a single tertiary centre. For each participant, three gender- and age-matched controls were selected randomly from an existing HR-pQCT database of healthy individuals.

Nine boys with DMD at a median age of 9.3years were included. Three were found to have asymptomatic vertebral compression fracture. The HR-pQCT findings of these nine boys were compared with 27 healthy controls. Trabecular microstructure indices at the distal radius were significantly lower but the cortical vBMD was significantly higher in the DMD boys when compared with healthy controls.

Lower microarchitectural measurement of trabecular bones, but higher cortical vBMD, was observed in DMD boys on long-term oral glucocorticoid. The results from this study provide preliminary, yet important insights into the bone microarchitecture of this group of patients.
