The past two decades have witnessed the increasing application of contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM) for women with breast cancer in the western countries. Over 30% of young patients choose to underwent CPM up to 2015. However, the adoption rate of CPM has not shown a remarkably increasing in Asian countries. In China, only a few centers have introduced CPM, and no relevant literature has been published. In this study, we look forward to identify the clinical features and prognostic factors of women who underwent CPM in our hospital, to inform decision-making processes for both doctors and patients.

Healthcare workers are at high risk of developing hand eczema. This study aimed to investigate the association between occupational hygiene and self-reported hand eczema among nurses and doctors in Guangzhou.

A cross-sectional study using a self-administrated questionnaire sent to 740 health care workers in two tertiary hospitals between 1

July 2019 was conducted.

In total, 521 healthcare workers responded (70.4%). The prevalence of self-reported hand eczema was 9.6% [95% confidence interval (CI) 7.1-12.1%], with 10.8% in nurses and 6.9% in doctors. According to multivariable logistic regression analysis, the prevalence was higher in those who were excessively exposed to hair dye (OR 3.871, 95% CI 1.106-13.549) and those having a history of food allergy were at 3.013 (95% CI 1.314-6.907) times greater risk of having hand eczema than those who did not. The odds of having hand eczema were 4.863 (95% CI 1.037-22.803) times greater in those who hand washed more than 50 times daily in comparison to those who washed hands less than 10 times per day. The symptoms of hand eczema were mild during the investigation period.

Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) offers the highest chance of cure in comparison with all other treatment for liver tumors and other end stage liver disease. However, the complications caused by liver transplantation significantly affect its therapeutic effect, and acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most common of these. It is, therefore, necessary to identify the risk factors of AKI after liver transplantation.

A single-center, retrospective study of patients receiving liver transplantation at the Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital between January 2015 to January 2019 was conducted.Patients were divided into a normal control group and AKI group based on their previous medical history. Preoperative and intraoperative indicators including preoperative creatinine, uric acid, and the intraoperative input of protein were then recorded.

A total of 419 patients were enrolled into the study. The control group consisted of 336 patients while 83 patients formed an AKI group based on the grading criteria of AKI. There were significant differences in chronic severe hepatitis (P=0.001), liver cancer (P=0.044), intraoperative input of sodium bicarbonate (P=0.019), input of red blood cell suspension (P=0.004), the input of blood plasma (P=0.043), intraoperative urine output (P=0.006), and preoperative creatinine (P=0.041) between the control and AKI group. Multivariate analysis indicated that chronic severe hepatitis (OR 2.872; P=0.003) and preoperative creatinine (OR 1.083; P=0.011) were independent risk factors for AKI in patients receiving liver transplantation.

Recently, transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound (TVCDU) has been widely used in the diagnosis of pelvic tumors. This study aimed to assess the reliability of the application of TVCDU in the identification of pelvic tumors in women of childbearing age.

The clinical data of 209 patients with pelvic tumors at childbearing age admitted to our hospital from January 2016 to December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The ultrasound signs, color Doppler ultrasound score (CDUS), and resistance index (RI) of benign and malignant pelvic tumors diagnosed by TVCDU were analyzed. The value of transabdominal color Doppler ultrasound (TACDU) and TVCDU in the diagnosis of benign and malignant pelvic tumors was calculated.

There were 150 cases with benign pelvic tumors and 59 cases with malignant tumors. Most benign tumors had an intact capsule and regular shape, were mainly cystic, and were rarely accompanied by ascites; meanwhile, malignant tumors were mostly non-capsular and irregular in shape, mainly solid or cysticuracy in the diagnosis of pelvic tumors.
The sensitivity and accuracy of TVCDU in the differential diagnosis of benign pelvic and malignant tumors in women at childbearing age were significantly higher than those of TACDU. The combined application of CDUS and RI can further improve the accuracy in the diagnosis of pelvic tumors.
