Background This study aimed to identify optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers for predicting response to anti-VEGF treatment in diabetic macular edema (DME)Methods Bilateral DME patients with asymmetric response to a loading dose of anti-VEGF (ranibizumab/aflibercept) treatment were retrospectively studied. The morphologic response criterion was central subfield thickness (CST) ≤300 µm; asymmetric response was defined as ≥10% difference in CST reduction between the eyes. The functional response criterion was an increase in logMAR acuity of ≥3 lines, with an increase below this threshold in the fellow eye considered asymmetric response. Relationships between final morphologic and functional responses to anti-VEGF therapy and baseline values of the following OCT-derived biomarkers were evaluated DME subtype, CST, vitreoretinal interface anomalies, disorganization of the inner retinal layers (DRIL), external limiting membrane (ELM) disruption, ellipsoid zone (EZ) disruption, and subretinal fluid (SRF).Relower predictive value.Deodorization of gases emitted from Tanneries using eco-friendly and cost-effective approaches is necessary for the safe disposal of industrial emissions. There is limited research available on the treatment of odorous gases emitted from tanneries using bio-filter. In this endeavor, pilot-scale studies were performed in a 2.7 m3 bio-filter with synthetic gas mixture containing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3) as input gas to study the impact of bedding material for the removal of H2S and NH3 using bio-filter and identification of various design parameters for scale-up. The pilot-scale studies showed that the removal efficacy of both NH3 and H2S was about 90-99% at an empty bed residence time of 55 seconds at an inlet concentration (NH3 and H2S) of 200 to 210 ppmV and microbial count enhanced from 3.5 × 103 to 8.9 × 109 in 210 days. The microbial biodiversity analysis revealed the dominance of proteobacteriaas as well as Firmicutes and Acinetobacter. A full-scale bio-filter (13.75 m3) was designed, installed, and commissioned in a tannery and observed that the removal efficiency of >99% since last three years.This study examined self-reported changes in young adults' sexual desire and behaviors during the most significant social restrictions imposed to deal with COVID-19. Drawing on a survey of 565 British adults aged 18-32 collected at the peak of social lockdown restrictions, we document an overall decrease in sexual behaviors consistent with abiding by social restrictions. We found that the levels of sexual desire reported by women (but not men) decreased compared with reports of pre-lockdown levels. Participants in serious relationships reported more increases in sexual activity than people who were single or dating casually, and there were significant differences according to gender and sexual orientation. The perceived impact of subjective wellbeing of people with high sociosexuality scores was disproportionately associated with social lockdown but there was no effect for general health. Thus, the impact on sexuality and general wellbeing should be considered by policymakers when considering future social restrictions related to COVID-19 or other public health emergencies.One dose of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) was introduced into the Chinese Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in 2016. IPV made from Sabin strains (sIPV) was newly licensed in China and its safety has been concerned. This study aimed to evaluate the safety of sIPV and provide a comparison with conventional IPV made from wild strains (wIPV). We collected all IPV-related AEFI reports in Jiangsu from the Chinese National Adverse Events Following Immunization Information System (CNAEFIS) for 2016-2019. We obtained the administered doses of IPV from the Jiangsu provincial Electronic Immunization Registries System (JSEIRS). The AEFI reporting rates per 100,000 doses of vaccine administered were compared for sIPV and wIPV. A total of 699 sIPV and 908 wIPV AEFI cases were collected by CNAEFIS in Jiangsu during 2016-2019. The overall AEFI reporting rates were 53.02 per 100,000 doses and 41.25 per 100,000 doses for sIPV and wIPV, respectively (P less then .001). For both sIPV and wIPV, the AEFIs were mainly classified as common adverse reactions. The reporting rate of common adverse reactions was higher for sIPV than for wIPV (P less then .001). The most frequently reported symptoms/signs were fever, persistent crying, injection site erythema/swelling, rash, and injection site induration. Only 1.14% of sIPV-associated and 2.31% of wIPV-associated AEFI cases were diagnosed as serious. No difference in reporting rate was observed for serious AEFIs (P = .272). sIPV has a favorable safety profile, although it exhibits a slightly higher reporting rate of common adverse reactions than wIPV.Aim Nivolumab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor that has recently been widely used for metastatic malignant melanoma. We report a case who developed multiple different ocular immune-related side effects (iRAEs) related to nivolumab.Case Presentation A 60-year-old man on nivolumab treatment for metastatic malignant melanoma developed a decrease in vision in both eyes several days after the third infusion. The initial best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was counting fingers in both eyes. Slit-lamp examination revealed no abnormal findings in the anterior segment of both eyes. Eganelisib in vivo Posterior segment evaluation showed serous retinal detachment, including the whole macula and inferior retina in both eyes, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) confirmed the diagnosis. On en face OCT analysis, hyperautoflorescent dots were noticed on the whole macular region but more intense at the inferior quadrant corresponding to serous retinal detachment. On Fluorescein Angiography (FA), no abnormality was observed. Oral corticoster face OCT imaging may help diagnose and show the activity of the posterior segment manifestation. When managed properly and observed closely following general and ocular conditions, it is possible to held iRAEs and overcome them by oral and/or topical corticosteroid therapy without interrupting the nivolumab.
