Recent reports depicted the significance of cerebellum in higher-order cognitive functions, including emotion-processing, language, reward-related behavior, working memory, and social behavior. As it can influence diverse behavioral patterns, any defects in cerebellar functions could invoke neuropsychiatric diseases as indicated by the incidence of alexithymia and induce alterations in emotional and behavioral patterns. Furthermore, its defects can trigger motor diseases, such as ataxia and Parkinson's disease (PD). In this review, we have extensively discussed the role of cerebellum in motor and non-motor functions and how the cerebellum malfunctions in relation to the neural circuit wiring as it could impact brain function and behavioral outcomes in patients with neuropsychiatric diseases. Relevant data regarding cerebellar non-motor functions have been vividly described, along with anatomy and physiology of these functions. In addition to the defects in basal ganglia, the lack of activity in motor related regions of the cerebellum could be associated with the severity of motor symptoms. All together, this review delineates the importance of cerebellar involvement in patients with PD and unravels a crucial link for various clinical aspects of PD with specific cerebellar sub-regions.

This is a non-systematic narrative review of papers published since 2000 using PubMed and Google Scholar, focusing on women with DD and medication adherence.

Therefore, a novel multiview feature fusion representation (MVFFR) method was developed and combined with a robustness classifier to detect EEG signals with/without IES. MVFFR comprises two steps First, temporal, frequency, temporal-frequency, spatial, and nonlinear domain features are transformed by the IES to express the latent information effectively. Second, the unsupervised infinite feature-selection method determines the most distinct feature fusion representations. Experimental results using a balanced dataset of six patients showed that MVFFR achieved the optimal detection performance (accuracy 89.27%, sensitivity 89.01%, specificity 89.54%, and precision 89.82%) compared with other feature ranking methods, and the MVFFR-related method were complementary and indispensable. Arthrolysis is usually performed when stiffness has a disabling effect on quality of life and in cases where physiotherapy has not been effective. This report describes one patient with a chronic stiff wrist who underwent open arthrolysis. The purpose of this case report is to describe the rehabilitation following arthrolysis, in order to illustrate the effects of intensive physiotherapy for this patient.

A 54-year-old woman with chronic wrist stiffness secondary to a radio-ulnar fracture was described. The patient presented severe pain and unsatisfactory wrist range of motion and muscle strength almost 2years after the traumatic event.

Post-arthrolysis rehabilitation was based on edema control, manual therapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), static splinting and strengthening exercises. In addition, graded motor imagery and proprioceptive rehabilitation were included to address impaired motor control. Outcome measures of passive range of motion (PROM), active range of motion (AROM), grip and pinch strength, numeric rating scale (NRS), disability of the arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) and patient-rated wrist/hand evaluation (PRWHE) were recorded.

To evaluate trends of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and ischaemic heart disease (IHD) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients compared with the general population over time.

We performed a retrospective cohort study of 1821 RA patients diagnosed from 1972 to 2013. Aggregated counts of the total population of the same county (Hordaland, Norway) and period were used for comparison. Information on AMI and IHD events was obtained from hospital patient administrative systems or cardiovascular registries. We estimated incidence rates and excess of events [standardized event ratio (SER) with 95% confidence interval (CI)] compared with the general population by Poisson regression.

There was an average annual decline of 1.6% in age- and gender-adjusted AMI incidence rates from 1972 to 2017 (p<0.035). The difference in events (excess events) in RA patients compared with the general population declined on average by 1.3% per year for AMI and by 2.3% for IHD from 1972 to 2014. There were no significant excess AMI (SER 1.05, 95% CI 0.82-1.35) or IHD events (SER 1.02, 95% CI 0.89-1.16) for RA patients diagnosed after 1998 compared with the general population.
