To investigate and identify first-trimester fasting plasma glucose (FPG) is related to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and other adverse pregnancy outcomes in Shenzhen population.
We used data of 48,444 pregnant women that had been retrospectively collected between 2017 and 2019. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluated the associations between first-trimester FPG and GDM and adverse pregnancy outcomes, and used to construct a nomogram model for predicting the risk of GDM. The performance of the nomogram was evaluated by using ROC and calibration curves. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to determine the clinical usefulness of the first-trimester FPG by quantifying the net benefits at different threshold probabilities.
The mean first-trimester FPG was 4.62 ± 0.42 mmol/L. A total of 6998 (14.4%) pregnancies developed GDM.489(1.01%) pregnancies developed polyhydramnios, the prevalence rates of gestational hypertensive disorder (GHD), cesarean section, primary cesarean section, preterm derse pregnancy outcomes.
Ectopic thymomas often occur in the upper mediastinum; however, they rarely arise in the middle mediastinum, especially on the dorsal side of the innominate vein and superior vena cava in the peribronchial region.
Six years prior, a 27-year-old female presented to our department and was diagnosed with locally advanced left breast cancer. First, we administered chemotherapy including an anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 antibody. The size of the tumor was markedly reduced, and a radical operation involving mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection was then performed. The patient underwent radiotherapy after the mastectomy, followed by trastuzumab therapy; she continued to receive endocrine therapy thereafter. She underwent computed tomography once a year after the surgery, and a nodule in the middle mediastinum on the dorsal side of the innominate vein and superior vena cava in the parabronchial region was detected at 4years. We speculated that the nodule was a solitary mediastinal lymph noer.To compare the surgical outcomes of robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) between patients with cystic renal cell carcinoma (cRCC) and those with solid RCC (sRCC). We retrospectively analyzed 1065 patients who underwent RAPN between 2013 and 2020 for a pathological diagnosis of RCC. Patients were divided into two groups cRCC and sRCC. cRCC was diagnosed according to the Bosniak classification system. To minimize selection bias between the two groups, patient variables (patient characteristics) and tumor factors (such as size and complexity) were adjusted using 11 propensity score matching. Of the 1065 patients, 94 (9%) were diagnosed with cRCC. Bosniak categories of IIF, III, and IV were noted in 4 (4.2%), 31 (33%), and 59 (63%) patients, respectively. After matching, 83 patients each were assigned to the cRCC and sRCC groups. The operation time in cRCC tended to be longer than in sRCC but not significantly different (164 vs. 150 min, P = 0.0767). Other surgical outcomes, such as change in estimated glomerular filtration rate ( - 5.2 vs. - 7.2%, P = 0.1577), perioperative complications (14.5 vs. 15.7%, P = 0.9225), estimated blood loss (62 vs. 58 mL, P = 0.5613), or negative surgical margin status (100 vs 99%, P = 0.236), were not significantly different between the two groups. During the follow-up period of about 2 years, one and two patients showed recurrence in the cRCC and sRCC groups, respectively. The surgical outcomes of RAPN were similar between cRCC and sRCC, demonstrating the feasibility of RAPN for cRCC.A simple microwave-assisted synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon dots with high oxygen content (O-N-CDs) was carried out with citric acid as a carbon source and 2,4-diamino-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine as a nitrogen source in triethylene glycol (TEG) media. It was determined by SEM analysis that O-N-CDs consisted of particles of different sizes and shapes. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed that O-N-CDs have a graphitic structure. Moreover, they showed a high fluorescence property based on the excitation wavelength. Therefore, a new fluorometric method was developed for the determination of banned food dye Sudan II by using the O-N-CDs. The proposed method was used in the determination of Sudan II in spiked spice samples. The detection limit was 0.6 mg L-1 and the linear range was 0-8 mg L-1.
Benefit and cost effectiveness of breast cancer screening are still matters of controversy. Risk-adapted strategies are proposed to improve its benefit-harm and cost-benefit relations. Our objective was to perform a systematic review on economic breast cancer models evaluating primary and secondary prevention strategies in the European health care setting, with specific focus on model results, model characteristics, and risk-adapted strategies.
Literature databases were systematically searched for economic breast cancer models evaluating the cost effectiveness of breast cancer screening and prevention strategies in the European health care context. Characteristics, methodological details and results of the identified studies are reported in evidence tables. Economic model outputs are standardized to achieve comparable cost-effectiveness ratios.
Thirty-two economic evaluations of breast cancer screening and seven evaluations of primary breast cancer prevention were included. Five screening studies and noyet been confirmed by trials. European models evaluating risk-adapted screening strategies are rare, but suggest that risk-adapted screening is more effective and efficient than conventional screening.Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a highly aggressive cancer, with a 9% 5-year survival rate and a high risk of recurrence. In part, this is because PC is composed of heterogeneous subgroups with different biological and functional characteristics and personalized anticancer treatments are required. Posttranslational modifications (PTMs) play an important role in modifying protein functions/roles and are required for the maintenance of cell viability and biological processes; thus, their dysregulation can lead to disease. Different types of PTMs increase the functional diversity of the proteome, which subsequently influences most aspects of normal cell biology or pathogenesis. This review primarily focuses on ubiquitination, SUMOylation, and NEDDylation, as well as the current understanding of their roles and molecular mechanisms in pancreatic carcinogenesis. Additionally, we briefly summarize studies and clinical trials on PC treatments to advance our knowledge of drugs available to target the ubiquitination, SUMOylation, and NEDDylation PTM types. Further investigation of PTMs could be a critical field of study in relation to PC, as they have been implicated in the initiation and progression of many other types of cancer.
The benefit of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) in patients with heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been unequivocally proven in randomized, controlled trials. However, real-world evidence assessing the implementation of SGLT2i in clinical practice and their benefit in HF outside of highly selected study populations is limited.
Patients with HF and T2DM admitted to the cardiology ward of the Medical University of Vienna between 01/2014 and 04/2020 were included in the present analysis. All first-time prescriptions of SGLT2i were identified. The outcome of interest was cardiovascular mortality. The median follow-up time was 2.3years.
Out of 812 patients with T2DM and HF (median age 70.4 [IQR 62.4-76.9] years; 70.3% males), 17.3% received an SGLT2i. The frequency of SGLT2i prescriptions significantly increased over the past 6years (+ 36.6%, p < 0.001). In propensity score-adjusted pairwise analyses, SGLT2i treatment was inversely associated with long-term cardiovascular mortality in patients with HFrEF presenting with an adjusted HR of 0.33 (95%CI 0.13-0.86; p = 0.024).

National and European Medical Agency remuneration regulations would allow more patients at high risk to receive these cardiovascular protective drugs. A total of 100 patients and 100 controls were genotyped for rs7574865, and the biochemical and anthropometric parameters were measured to show that type 1 diabetic patients had significantly higher levels of HbA1c and triglycerides compared to non-diabetic individuals (P < 0.05). And genetically, the T allele and GT genotype have a significant correlation with diabetes type 1.

The aim of this study was to investigate the antiglycation, methylglyoxal (MG)-trapping action and antioxidant activity of Brassica vegetable extract (BVE) from cabbage, cauliflower and Chinese cabbage. The results showed that cauliflower had the highest phenolic content with the strongest DPPH radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing antioxidant power and oxygen radical absorbance capacity. Seven phenolic acids and three flavonoids were identified by ESI-Q-TOF-MS analysis. The common phenolic compounds in all BVE were sinapic acid and p-hydroxybenzoic acid. The BVE (0.5 mg/mL) showed significant inhibitory activity against glucose-induced fluorescent advanced glycation end products (AGEs) formation (34 - 67%) and preserved the amount of protein thiol group (30 - 35%). In addition, all extracts (0.125 - 4 mg/mL) also had the ability to trap MG, a reactive glycating agent. Total phenolic content of BVE exhibited a positive correlation with DPPH radical scavenging activity (r = 0.524) and % inhibition of AGE formation (r = 0.570) and % MG-trapping capacity (r = 0.786). These findings suggest that the BVE possesses antioxidant and antiglycating activity that may help to protect against protein glycation and oxidation mediated by glycation reaction.
