The objective of this study was to determine the ileal digestible energy (IDE), ME, and MEn of rice, broken rice, and rice bran. The birds were fed a standard starter diet from day 0 to 14 and experimental diets from day 15 to 21 after hatching. A total of 336 birds were grouped by BW and assigned to 7 diets, each diet comprised 8 replicates with 6 birds per replicate. The diets comprised a reference diet (RD) and 6 test diets (TD). The TD contained 2 levels of rice, broken rice or rice bran that partly replaced the energy sources in the RD at 120 or 240 g/kg (rice and broken rice) or 150 or 300 g/kg (rice bran). Addition of rice or broken rice to RD linearly increased (P less then 0.01) ileal digestibility of DM, energy, as well as total tract metabolizability of DM, energy, and N-corrected energy in the TD. The inclusion of rice bran in the TD linearly decreased (P less then 0.01) energy digestibility and utilization in the test diet. Regressions of rice-associated, broken rice-associated, or rice bran-associated IDE, ME, or MEn intake in kcal against rice, broken rice, or rice bran intake were as follows IDE = Y = 2 (6) + 3,185 (73) × Rice + 3,199 (72) × Broken Rice + 2,562 (61) × Rice Bran, r2 = 0.98; ME = Y = 8 (6) + 3,103 (72) × Rice + 3,190 (71) × Broken Rice + 2,709 (60) × Rice Bran, r2 = 0.98; MEn = Y = 4 (5) + 3,014 (68) × Rice + 3,092 (101) × Broken Rice + 2,624 (57) × Rice Bran, r2 = 0.98; Based on the regression equations, the IDE, ME, MEn values (kcal/kg of DM) of rice were 3,185, 3,103 and 3,014, respectively, while for broken rice, the values were 3,199, 3,190, and 3,092 and for rice bran, the values were 2,562, 2,709, and 2,624, respectively.Dysregulation of the preovulatory surge (PS) leads to lowered egg production. The hypothalamo-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis has been shown to influence plasma progesterone levels and follicle ovulation. The presence of thyroid hormone receptors (THR) in the reproductive axis suggests possible effects of thyroid hormone. To further understand the potential role of thyroid hormone on the PS, HPT axis plasma hormone concentrations and gene expression were characterized surrounding the PS in average egg producing hens (AEPH), low egg producing hens (LEPH), and high egg producing hens (HEPH) (n = 3 hens/group). Data were analyzed using the mixed models procedure of SAS, with significance indicated at P less then 0.05. Average egg producing hens and HEPH displayed lower levels of triiodothyronine (T3) and higher levels of thyroxine (T4) inside of the PS, whereas LEPH showed inverse T3 and T4 levels relative to the PS. Expression of mRNA for hypothalamic thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), pituitary thyrotropin (Tthe HPT axis was seen in LEPH. Further studies will be required to clarify the role of the HPT axis in the regulation of ovulation and egg production rates in turkey hens.
This paper presents a dynamic model aimed at predicting nursing manpower requirements for cancer care over the next ten years. The proposed model, based on the Taiwan Health Insurance Database (2000 to 2010), is meant to serve as a reference in establishing policy for government health units.

The proposed prediction model uses fuzzy sets to replace definite values with interval values in order to account for uncertainties in real-world data and enhance the flexibility of prediction results.

Our results suggest that the demand for nursing manpower for cancer care will grow steadily in the foreseeable future. The gap between the demand for nursing staff and the supply is expected to peak in 2027. By then, the number of oncologists is expected to reach 7,083 (54.32% of the total number of in-hospital physicians), but the number of oncology nurses will be less than 26,297 (56.5% of the total healthcare manpower). It is also expected that there will be fewer than 1,613 outpatient physicians (71.81% of the total number of physicians) and fewer than 4,967 outpatient nurses (68.46% of the total nursing manpower).

This paper provides a valuable reference for government agencies involved in the nursing manpower planning to improve the quality of nursing care.

Personalized medicine is an important area of medical research which consists of designing therapies specifically for a patient or a group of patients. For drugs having a narrow therapeutic index or for vulnerable patients, methods such as therapeutic drug monitoring are used in a hospital setting to ensure that the blood concentration of the drug is maintained within a pre-decided range. However, such methods can not be used for drugs which are still in the developmental phase since, generally, insufficient information is available about the pharmacokinetic behaviour of the drug.

In this paper, we present a new methodology for explicit optimization of dose regimens during the course of the pharmacokinetic studies such that the resultant blood concentration of the drug in each subject is maintained around a desired target concentration or within a target range.

We demonstrate that our algorithm is able to achieve the clinical objective of PK estimation while simultaneously individualizing the dose to evoncentration-controlled trials where maintenance of the target concentration in the subjects is a fundamental requirement for conducting these trials.Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the causative agent of tuberculosis with millions of deaths annually, remains one of the most formidable pathogen to global public health. As the most successful intracellular pathogens, Mtb can spatiotemporally coordinate the transcription and translation timely to reconcile the inevitable transcription-replication conflicts. Mutation frequency decline (Mfd) is a bacterial ATP-dependent DNA translocase that couples DNA repair to transcription via hydrolyzing ATP as energy, which preferentially acts on the damaged DNA transcribed strand to rescue stalled RNAP or dissociate RNAP to terminate the transcription depending on impediment severity, mitigating the damage to bacteria. Selleck Defactinib In addition to the traditional damage repair effect, Mfd may also promote bacteria mutagenesis under stresses and boost the drug resistance. Mfd is widespread among bacteria and intensively studied, but there are very few studies in Mycobacteria, especially Mtb. In this review, the structure, function and mechanism characteristics of Mfd in Mtb (MtbMfd, Rv1020) are explored, with emphasis on the regulatory network of MtbMfd and its potential as a prime target for antibiotic drugs against tuberculosis.Real-time and visual monitoring of pollutants in the air is of great importance since they are usually cannot be seen, smelled, or touched. Lanthanide nano-cluster is a kind of luminescent sensor for various species. However, controlling synthesis of lanthanide nano-cluster remains experimentally challenging. In this work, four series of lanthanide-barium (Ln-Ba) nano-clusters of Dy2Ba (1), Tb2Ba2 (2), Ln4Ba3 (Ln = Tb, 3a; Eu, 3b), Tb4Ba4 (4) were assembled through precisely controlling the pH of the reactant solutions. The work features the first example that the number of cluster's nuclei changes regularly with the pH. Moreover, investigation reveals that nano-cluster 3a is a highly selective and sensitive sensor towards acetylacetone (acac) and aniline. Interestingly, easy-to-use sensing devices of test paper, agarose gel, and five kinds of film on CaCO3, polyfoam, coin, mask, and wall that based on 3a were fabricated by facile methods. The seven sensing devices showed remarkable ability to sense aniline and acac vapors with visibility to the naked eyes. This is the first work on multiple real-time and visual sensing devices based on the lanthanide nano-cluster.This study first discovered the prevalence of phthalate (PAE) alternatives and PAE monoesters alongside traditional PAEs with elevated concentrations in indoor dust from typical e-waste recycling industrial park and adjacent communities. Among nine PAEs, high-molecular-weight (HMW) PAEs dominated over low-molecular-weight (LMW) PAEs in e-waste dust, with total concentrations (∑9PAEs) ranging from 170 to 5300 μg g-1. The diisononyl phthalate (DiNP) was identified as the most abundant PAE in e-waste dust, with over 10 times higher median concentration than that measured in home dust. Total concentrations of three PAE alternatives ranged from 20 to 1600 μg g-1 in e-waste dust, which were 3-10 times higher than the measured levels in home dust. A total of 13 monoesters were all identified in all samples with total concentrations of 4.7-59 μg g-1, and biodegradation of diesters was recognized as the major source of monoesters present in indoor dust. Significant correlations between the concentrations of PAE alternatives and the HMW PAEs were observed (p less then 0.05), indicating that they are being simultaneously used in electronic and electrical products. The occupationally high co-exposure of e-waste dismantling workers to multiple PAEs and PAE alternatives as well as their monoesters should be of concern.Microcystis aeruginosa (M. aeruginosa) was found to be capable of cadmium (Cd2+) assimilation. Potassium (K+), an essential factor in transmembrane transport, can possibly manipulate the interaction between Cd2+ and M. aeruginosa. In this study, the effect of available K+ levels on Cd2+ toxicity in M. aeruginosa is examined. The results showed that the K+ level was positively linked with toxicity of Cd2+ to M. aeruginosa. And with respect to the M. aeruginosa incubated in K+ = 460 μM treatment, the release of extracellular polymeric substance was augmented, which benefited the retention of Cd2+ on the M. aeruginosa surface. In addition, the assimilation of Cd2+ showed a 3.42-fold increase in comparison to that without K+ supplement. Moreover, the enhanced K+ level caused the up-regulation of the Cd2+ transporting protein and down-regulation of the Cd2+ efflux protein, associated with the positive energy metabolism response. These results documented that the K+ availability could influence the toxicity of Cd2+ to M. aeruginosa jointly through the manipulation of Cd2+ assimilation, excretion, and the biological response. These findings may attach importance to the effects of K+ level on Cd2+ assimilation by M. aeruginosa and shed a degree of light on the enhanced Cd2+ removal using algal-based technology.A novel ternary recyclable Fe3O4/graphene/sulfur-doped g-C3N4 (Fe3O4/GE/SCN) composite catalyst was synthesized and adopted in a visible-light driven catalytic system for the degradation of ranitidine, which is an important precursor of the emerging disinfection by-product of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). The addition of GE and Fe3O4 significantly improved the interface charge transfer of SCN, increased the light collection efficiency and decreased the photogenerated charge recombination efficiency. Considering both the ranitidine removal efficiency and catalyst recovery, the Fe3O4 mass fraction of 20% (20%-Fe3O4/GE/SCN) was recommended. Ranitidine (≤2 mg/L) was completely removed in 60 min under the conditions of an initial pH of 7.0 and a 20%-Fe3O4/GE/SCN dose of 1.0 g/L, and its degradation fitted well with the pseudo first-order kinetics model. Electron paramagnetic resonance analysis and trapping experiments confirmed that ·O2-, ·OH and h+ participated in the degradation of ranitidine. Ranitidine was removed through the pathways of demethylation and hydroxylation based on the analysis of the detected degradation intermediates, and 57.
