If you’re new to yoga, it’s important to begin with foundational postures that help you understand the practice. Here are some essential yoga poses for beginners:
Mountain Pose (Tadasana): This standing pose is the foundation of all standing postures. Stand tall with your feet together, keep your arms by your sides or overhead, and breathe deeply.
Child’s Pose (Balasana): Great for stretching the back, Child’s Pose is a great way to rest between poses. Kneel on the floor, sit back on your heels, and fold forward, stretching your arms out.
Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana): Great for stretching the entire body, Downward Dog strengthens your arms and legs. Start on your hands and knees, lift your hips up and back, forming an inverted V shape with your body, pressing your heels towards the floor.
Cat-Cow Stretch (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana): A gentle flow between two poses, the Cat-Cow Stretch connects breath with movement. Start on your hands and knees, inhale as you arch your back (Cow Pose), and exhale as you round your spine (Cat Pose), moving slowly and with control.
