The Most Underrated Companies To Keep An Eye On In The 3 Wheel Buggies Industry
3 Wheel Buggies

Three-wheel buggies look stylish and sleek, and have excellent maneuverability. A lot of them have an sling made of fabric with an incredibly comfortable lay flat bed, which is ideal for weight distribution and are ideal starting at birth.

The wheels are larger and often have suspension to allow for smooth, swift movement on different terrains. The only downside is that they may be more heavy and bulkier to store and transport.

Stability

Three-wheel buggies offer a lot of stability. They aren't prone to tipping over more easily when driving straight. You can also manoeuvre faster. If you stop or turn abruptly, they could lose stability and tip over. For this reason, certain manufacturers add an extra wheel to their three wheel buggy designs to improve the stability of the chassis.

The extra wheel also helps you to tackle off-road terrain. Look for models with air-filled tires (also called pneumatic tyres) that can be used to handle off-road trails, sand, mud, and other surfaces such as rock and sand. They'll also typically have an adjustable front wheel that locks to give stability over rough terrain.

The buggies are easy to maneuver and agile, thanks to a 360o front swivel wheel. They also meet the same stability standards worldwide and test as 4-wheel buggies.

If you're in search of a fabric sling seat, they are typically placed lower in the frame than modular seats so that your baby's center of gravity is closer to the floor which means a smoother ride and a lighter kerb pop (you don't need to apply as much pressure or effort to get the buggy over and up the kerb).

Maxi-Cosi is best known for its car seat collection however, it recently expanded its product line with the Citylife compact travel system and pushchair. This 3-in-1 is ideal for urban life, and comes with a baby car seat or carrycot. It has 4 wheels and uses an exclusive black pewter frame that the manufacturer claims is 'light and compact' - it's just 2cm larger than the Babyzen Yoyo.

Folding

There are a variety of three wheel buggies that can be folded compactly and fit into smaller spaces. Many of them can be folded using just one hand, and are easy to wipe down. Some of the tiniest models have a simple height-of-handlebar adjustment, while others have adjustable suspensions and a 50+ UV canopy that can be extended. Some models could have large baskets and brake levers that are quick-release.

The most efficient 3 wheeled buggy for taking on rough terrain

A 3-wheel buggy will usually be better able to cope with off-road terrain than one with four wheels, however both can be stuck in difficult places. However, selecting a model that has larger wheels on both sides can help. This makes them easier to push over uneven ground and is often helpful in moving up and down the high kerbs.

The brand new Roma Atlas has been praised by many for its astonishing agility despite its three-wheeled design. MFM reviewer Kath tested it with her infant and her 3-year-old, and said "it is very well-handled over bumpy pavements, cobbles gravel tracks and dirt roads and also on a few hills."

Stella Stella, the all-terrain 3-wheel buggy by Maxi-Cosi is another great option. It can be used from birth when used with a carrycot. It's slightly bigger than the lighter 4-wheelers however, it comes with air-filled tires, three recline positions, and an easy fold with one hand.

Its main selling point is its modularity - it's compatible with all the brand's infant car seats and strollers. You can build your own travel system, regardless of whether you want to go on a short walk or take a longer stroll, using the chassis.

Tyres

The tyres for 3 wheel buggies are available in a variety of styles and materials, and each comes with its pros and cons. For instance, air-filled tyres provide a smooth ride and great maneuverability while foam-filled tires are more durable. The type of tyre you choose will be determined by your lifestyle and the place you reside.

If you plan to travel on unpaved roads or in rough terrain frequently you may want to consider a three-wheeler that has more robust tyres. You should also think about the type of suspension that you require. Strong suspensions are useful to deal with humps and bumps but they can also be heavy, adding to the overall weight.

The size of the tyre is also important. Knowing how to read the tyre size is important for safety, performance, and durability. The combination of letters and numbers on the sidewall of a tyre may be confusing at first, but decoding it will allow you to comprehend the dimensions of the tyre. A tyre having an 185/70 size R14 for instance, means that it is a radial tire that has a size of 185/70 with 14-inch rim diameter.

PU tires are lighter and more puncture-resistant than rubber tires. If you're unsure if a pushchair has rubber or PU tires, try sliding the tires across an even and secure surface. If they slide easily, then the tires are made of PU. If not, then they are made of rubber.

Suspension

The suspension of a three-wheel buggy makes it more comfortable for your child since it will absorb any bumps or knocks from rough terrain. Large wheels that are filled with air, and that can be locked to provide stability while jogging are essential. This will enable your buggy to travel on off-road surfaces easily.

There are many choices for buggy styles that will suit any budget and lifestyle. For example the Mountain Buggy pioneered all terrain agility in a 3-wheel buggies. With the perfect geometry and engineering, their fabrics sling seat is tucked away inside the frame, in contrast to on top like modular seats, resulting in the lowest centre of gravity and sitting at the right height for the best weight distribution that allows it to easily handle the kerb pops.

Another option worth considering is the Urban Glide 2 from Thule that has a sleek design with large highly manoeuvrable front wheel, excellent suspension, and an easy-to-use twist handbrake. MFM reviewer Kath put this buggy to the test by taking it for a walk through rough ground and found that it handled the terrain really well, stating that it 'flies easily over grass, bumpy cobbles, roads dirt tracks, and can be a breeze getting up and down the kerbs'.

The Roma Atlas is another popular off-road option that, like the Urban Glide 2, comes with a variety of colours to suit your style. It also has an adjustable handlebar as well as a large basket. You can also select from a range of infant car seats that will convert the buggy to a pram. This includes the elegantly designed Carrycot Plus(tm) that is a comfortable, flat mattress for babies and infants until 12 months old.

3 wheeled pushchair make a buggy much more stable and less likely to tip, and easier to maneuver. It is also safer for your baby as their weight is distributed more evenly over the frame of the pushchair.

A four-wheeled buggy also tends to have a lower center of gravity and therefore is easier to lift up and over curbs. The seats made of fabric are placed inside the frame, not on top like modular seats. This results in a lower seat and buggy that is easily maneuvered.

However, if you want to go for an exercise with your child then a 4-wheeler may be more suitable as it will have a suspension system that allows the front wheel to move independently of the rear one which allows you to navigate bumpy roads and rough terrain be aware that not all buggies with 4 wheels are suitable for running (most aren't like the Phil and Teds). The exception is Mountain Buggies which have a specially-designed suspension system that has been tested by an independent party across all types of terrain.
