Results Six gray radiation stimulation upregulated the abundance of TP53TG1. TP53TG1 potentiated the radioresistance and progression of glioma by promoting the autophagy. miR-524-5p was verified as a direct downstream gene of TP53TG1. miR-524-5p depletion attenuated the influence of TP53TG1 interference on the functions of glioma cells. RAB5A was a direct target of miR-524-5p as well. The inhibitory effect of miR-524-5p on the malignancy of glioma cells was overturned by the overexpression of RAB5A. RAB5A was regulated by TP53TG1/miR-524-5p signaling in glioma cells. TP53TG1 silencing impeded the progression of glioma in vivo. Conclusion lncRNA TP53TG1 accelerated the proliferation, colony formation, autophagy, and radioresistance, and restrained the apoptosis of glioma cells through miR-524-5p/RAB5A axis.
The study aimed to validate admission clinical and radiographic features of pediatric patients with traumatic epidural hematoma (EDH) that lead to safe observation.
A Level I trauma center radiology and electronic medical record databases were retrospectively queried for pediatric patients with EDH on CT scan between 1/1/2016 and 10/1/2016. Patient imaging, treatment and outcome variables were abstracted. Characteristics of the cohort were compared to an external cohort used to develop prediction rules for surgical intervention. External validity of the prediction rules was assessed.
195 eligible subjects were included in the study, 37 of which failed observation and required surgery while 158 underwent successful observation. The surgical cohort had significantly thicker (

The dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) is involved in the regulation of mitochondrial fission and plays an important role in maintaining mitochondrial morphology, function, and distribution. It is a key protein in mitochondrial quality control. Drp1 is a GTPase localized to the cytoplasm and is a potential target in cancer therapy. A variety of drugs targeting Drp1 have shown great promise in reducing the viability and proliferation of cancer cells. The dynamic regulation of Drp1-mediated mitochondria is closely associated with tumor development, and treatment. Aim In this article, the authors reviewed the occurrence and progression of mitochondrial fission regulated by Drp1, and its influence on cell cycle, autophagy, apoptosis, migration, invasion, the molecular mechanism of tumor stemness, and metabolic reprogramming. Targeted inhibition of Drp1 and mitochondrial fission could reduce or prevent tumor occurrence and progression in a variety of cancers. Drp1 inhibitors could reduce tumor stemness and enhance tumor sensitivity to chemotherapeutic drugs. Conclusion Research into identifying compounds that could specifically target Drp1 will be valuable for overcoming drug resistance in tumors.Background Children with overweight status and obesity seek care for acute illnesses more often than normal weight peers. School-based health centers (SBHCs) have a role in acute and chronic disease management; however, little is known about SBHC use by children with overweight status and obesity. This study compared SBHC utilization by student body mass index (BMI) category and investigated whether SBHC visit diagnoses varied by BMI category. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis of students (n = 1161) in grades K-8 enrolled in a large SBHC for 2 years. Negative binomial regression models were used to test the independent association between BMI category as defined by BMI percentile [normal/underweight (BMI percentile less then 85%) and overweight/obesity (BMI percentile ≥85%), either overweight (85% ≤BMI percentile less then 95%) or obesity (BMI percentile ≥95%)], and the number of SBHC visits (nurse, clinician, and total visits) for the 2-year interval. Top five diagnoses based on ICD-10 visit codes were compared. Results Students in the overweight/obesity category (BMI percentile ≥85%) had higher visit rates than normal/underweight peers after adjusting for age and gender, but only total visits were statistically significant [nurse incident rate ratio (IRR) 1.42 (95% CI 0.94-2.15); clinician 1.27 (95% CI 0.93-1.75); total 1.45 (95% CI 1.02-2.07)]. Visit diagnoses were similar by BMI category. Conclusions Students with higher BMI percentiles, categorized as overweight/obesity, had higher SBHC utilization than normal/underweight peers, but visit diagnoses were similar. This higher utilization may provide an as-yet untapped opportunity to expand school-based obesity prevention and management.Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate factors influencing the initiation of pharyngeal swallow (IPS) in healthy, nondysphagic adults. Method A total of 195 healthy participants ranging in age from 21 to 89 years participated in a modified barium swallow study. IPS was quantified using the Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile standardized scoring system across nine swallowing tasks observed in the lateral viewing plane for each participant. Results Large variability for bolus head location at time of hyoid burst (IPS) was observed within this healthy cohort, ranging from the ramus of the mandible to the pyriform sinuses. Significant effects of bolus volume, viscosity, sex, and race were also observed. Conclusion Study findings indicate that IPS is variable in healthy adults and influenced by volume, viscosity, sex, and race. Thus, variability in IPS may be considered typical in otherwise nondysphagic adults. The clinical significance of high Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile IPS scores in dysphagic patients, therefore, must be considered within the context of other swallowing impairments. With most people experiencing months of lockdowns, social media may become a particularly important tool in Asian people's coping with discrimination. Grounded in the multiactivity framework of social media use, this study explored whether experience with discrimination was associated with more social media use among Asian people and how adaptive social media use was for their well-being during COVID-19. A sample of 242 Asians/Asian Americans residing in the United States (Mage = 32.88, SD = 11.13; 48 percent female) completed an online survey. Results showed that more experience of discrimination during COVID-19 was associated with more engagement in social media private messaging, posting/commenting, and browsing, but the activities yielded different implications for subjective well-being. Both social media private messaging and posting/commenting were associated with more perceived social support, which contributed to better subjective well-being. Social media posting/commenting was also related to better subjective well-being through lower worry about discrimination. In contrast, social media browsing was associated with poorer subjective well-being through more worry about discrimination.Background Radium-223 is approved for treatment of bone metastases in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). selleck chemicals After the ALSYMPCA trial showed overall survival benefit with the addition of radium-223 to standard of care in mCRPC in 2013, there have been numerous publications and trials using radium-223 in mCRPC. Recently, there has been interest in using radium-223 earlier in the metastatic prostate cancer timeline, in metastatic castrate-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC); however, currently, radium-223 in mCSPC treatment is investigational. Aim A literature search was conducted to review the use of radium-223 in mCSPC treatment from 1980 to 2019. A review of both radium-223 articles and abstracts was performed. Search terms included metastatic prostate cancer and radium-223, mCSPC, hormone-sensitive metastatic prostate cancer, radium-223, and oligometastatic disease. The results were limited to studies involving multiple patients with mCSPC. Conclusion There are a limited number of studies of radium-223 in mCSPC treatment and the authors report on these studies (two published studies and four ongoing trials). Trials are currently underway to assess if radium-223 could be used in mCSPC as a treatment for bone metastases and micrometastases. Future data from these trials will be informative as to the benefit of radium-223 in mCSPC treatment and may change treatment paradigms for mCSPC. This review will focus on trials assessing the role of radium-223 in mCSPC.A mixed method design was used to examine how caregiving and transitioning a family member into long-term care (LTC) influence planning. Participants, aged 50+ from the community, completed self-report questionnaires. Quantitative data evaluated differences between three groups (non-caregivers, caregivers, caregivers with experience in assisting with a LTC transition); and predictive effects of caregiving, care expectations and social support to planning. Interviews among a subsample of caregivers examined how experiences of caregiving, including assisting in a transition to LTC, and social support influenced planning. Results indicated that (1) caregivers with LTC transition experience planned significantly more than non-caregivers, (2) caregiving, care expectations, and social support significantly predicted of planning, and (3) future care expectation was an important mechanism in the relationship between caregiving and planning. This study is focused on finding an effective natural origin compound which can put a check on the activity of this virus. We chose important proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 genome such as NSP4, NSP15 and RdRp along-with the human ACE2 receptor which is the first point of contact with the virus. Virtual screening and followed up molecular docking resulted in Baicalin and Limonin as the final lead molecules. 200 ns of MD simulation for each protein-ligand complex provides the insights that Baicalin has a potential to target NSP4, NSP15 and RdRp proteins. Limonin which is largely used in traditional Indian medicine system is found to inhibit the human ACE2 receptor (making it inefficient in binding to the receptor binding domain of SARS-CoV-2).
