This retrospective study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and factors affecting the prognosis of transarterial chemoembolisation with irinotecan-eluting beads with CalliSpheres (DEB-TACE) for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC).

We retrospectively collected data on 39 patients with unresectable ICC who received DEB-TACE therapy. We assessed the indicators of tumour response, progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and the incidence of adverse events. PFS and OS were analysed using Kaplan-Meier curves, while Cox analysis was used to identify factors affecting the prognosis.

The 3-month objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) of the 39 patients with unresectable ICC were 35.9% and 56.4%, respectively, while the 6-month ORR and DCR were 23.0% and 40.9%, respectively. The median OS and PFS were 11.0months and 8.0months, respectively. Cox analysis demonstrated that combined therapy (adjuvant sorafenib after DEB-TACE) and a low cancer antigen (CA) 125 level (≤ 35 U/ml) were independent favourable prognostic factors. Transient elevation of the aminotransferase level, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, and hyper-bilirubinaemia were common adverse events in patients with unresectable ICC treated with DEB-TACE with CalliSphere beads (CBs). Hepatic abscess was the most serious complication, observed in one patient.

DEB-TACE with CBs is a safe and well-tolerated therapy in patients with unresectable ICC with a low incidence of adverse events and relatively prolonged survival. Combined therapy and low CA125 are prognostic factors associated with longer survival.

However, enantioselective methods to access these compounds are scarce and mainly rely on the use of designed chiral transition-metal complexes. Herein, we combined an organocatalytic method for the stereospecific isomerization of chiral allylic amines with a diastereoselective reduction of the chiral imine/enamine intermediates, leading to γ-trifluoromethylated aliphatic amines with two noncontiguous stereogenic centers, in excellent yields and high diastereo- and enantioselectivities. This approach has been used with primary amine substrates. This approach also provides a new synthetic pathway to chiral trifluoromethylated scaffolds, of importance in medicinal chemistry. Additionally, a gram-scale reaction demonstrates the applicability of this synthetic procedure. To ensure the quality and reliability of products bonded by epoxy resin adhesives, elucidation of the microscopic adhesion mechanism is essential. The adhesive interaction and bonding strength between epoxy resins and hydroxylated γ-alumina (001) surfaces were investigated by using a combined molecular dynamics (MD) and density functional theory (DFT) study. The curing reaction of an epoxy resin consisting of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS) was simulated. The resin structure was divided into fragmentary structures to study the interaction of each functional group with the alumina surface using DFT calculations. From the characteristics of the adhesive structures and the calculated adhesion energies, it was found that the fragments forming hydrogen bonds with hydroxy groups on the alumina surface resulted in large adhesion energies. On the other hand, the fragments adsorbed on the alumina surface via dispersion interactions resulted in small adhesion energies. The adhesion forces evaluated from the Hellmann-Feynman force calculations indicated the significant contribution of the hydroxy groups and benzene ether moieties derived from DGEBA to the adhesive stress of the DGEBA/DDS epoxy resin. The direction of hydrogen bonding between the epoxy resin and the surface and the difference in geometry at the interface between the donor and acceptor of hydrogen bonding played a central role in maintaining the adhesive strength during the failure process of the adhesive interface.A micro- or nanosized electrically controlled source of optical radiation is one of the key elements in optoelectronic systems. The phenomenon of light emission via inelastic tunneling (LEIT) of electrons through potential barriers or junctions opens up new possibilities for development of such sources. In this work, we present a simple approach for fabrication of nanoscale electrically driven light sources based on LEIT. We employ STM lithography to locally modify the surface of a Si/Au film stack via heating, which is enabled by a high-density tunnel current. Dooku1 solubility dmso Using the proposed technique, hybrid Si/Au nanoantennas with a minimum diameter of 60 nm were formed. Studying both electronic and optical properties of the obtained nanoantennas, we confirm that the resulting structures can efficiently emit photons in the visible range because of inelastic scattering of electrons. The proposed approach allows for fabrication of nanosized hybrid nanoantennas and studying their properties using STM.Organic-inorganic halide perovskites are well-known for their unique self-healing ability. In the presence of strong external stimuli, such as light, temperature, and moisture, high-energy defects are created which can be healed by removing the perovskite from the degradation source. This self-healing ability has been showcased in devices with recoverable performance and day-and-night cycling operation to dramatically extend the device lifetime and even mechanical durability. However, to date, the mechanistic details and theory around this captivating trait are sparse and convoluted by the complex nature of perovskites. With a clear understanding of the intrinsic self-healing property, perovskite solar cells with extended lifetimes and durability can be designed to realize the large-scale commercialization of perovskite solar cells. Here, we spotlight the relevant degradation and self-healing literature and then propose design strategies to help conceptualize future research.
To quantify the trends in frequent and occasional cannabis vaping, demographic differences and concurrent nicotine and alcohol use.

Observational study. Survey-weighted multinomial logistic regression models assessed trends and disparities in past 30-day cannabis use. Trends were assessed overall and by sex, race/ethnicity, parental education and urbanicity. Multinomial logistic regression models also estimated associations of cannabis use (none, use without vaping, use with vaping) with past 2-week binge drinking and past 30-day nicotine/tobacco use.

United States, 2017-19.

Participants in the national Monitoring the Future (n = 51 052) survey.

Past 30-day frequent cannabis use (six or more times/30 days) and past 30-day occasional use (one to five times/30 days), with and without vaping.

Past 30-day frequent cannabis use with vaping and occasional use with vaping rose from 2017 to 2019. Past 30-day frequent and occasional cannabis use without vaping declined. Certain groups, such as Hispanic/Latncreases across almost all adolescent demographic groups. Cannabis use among US adolescents remains highly associated with other substance use.The oxidative state of a critical cysteine residue determines the enzymatic activity of a phosphatase involved in T-cell immune responses.Organic isothiocyanates (ITCs) are a class of anticancer agents which naturally result from the enzymatic degradation of glucosinolates produced by Brassica vegetables. Previous studies have demonstrated that the structure of an ITC impacts its potency and mode(s) of anticancer properties, opening the way to preparation and evaluation of synthetic, non-natural ITC analogues. This study describes the preparation of a library of 79 non-natural ITC analogues intended to probe further structure-activity relationships for aryl ITCs and second-generation, functionalized biaryl ITC variants. ITC candidates were subjected to bifurcated evaluation of antiproliferative and antioxidant response element (ARE)-induction capacity against human MCF-7 cells. The results of this study led to the identification of (1) several key structure-activity relationships and (2) lead ITCs demonstrating potent antiproliferative properties.
Leukocyte telomere length (LTL) is a biomarker of biological aging and is associated with metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Insufficient maternal vitamin D was associated with increased risk for many diseases and adverse later life outcomes.

This study investigates the relationship between vitamin D levels and offspring LTL at early life.

This observational, longitudinal, hospital-based cohort study included eligible mother-child pairs from the HAPO Hong Kong Field Centre, with 853 offspring at age 6.96 ± 0.44 (mean ± SD) years. LTL was measured using real-time polymerase chain reaction while serum vitamin D metabolites 25(OH)D2, 25(OH)D3, and 3-epi-25(OH)D3 were measured in maternal blood (at gestation 24-32 weeks) and cord blood by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

LTL at follow-up was significantly shorter in boys compared with girls (P < 0.001) at age 7. Childhood LTL was negatively associated with childhood BMI (β ± SE = -0.016 ± 0.007)(P = 0.02) and HOMA-IR (β ± SE = -0.065 ± 0.021)(P = 0.002). Multiple linear regression was used to evaluate the relationship between 25(OH)D and LTL, with covariate adjustments. Childhood LTL was positively correlated with total maternal 25(OH)D (0.048 ± 0.017) (P = 0.004) and maternal 3-epi-25(OH)D3 (0.05 ± 0.017) (P = 0.003), even after adjustment for covariates. A similar association was also noted for cord 3-epi-25(OH)D3 (0.037 ± 0.018) (P = 0.035) after adjustment for offspring sex and age.

Our findings suggest 25(OH)D3 and 3-epi-25(OH)D3 in utero may impact on childhood LTLs, highlighting a potential link between maternal vitamin D and biological aging.

After 90 minutes of sunlight irradiation, the degradation efficiencies toward bisphenol A and phenol were 96% and 97%, respectively. Changes in sunlight due to the season and the calcination temperature and duration displayed weak influence on the degradation efficiencies for these two pollutants. Although the use of tap water, river water, lake water, and seawater exhibited a certain impact on the photocatalytic efficiency, the final removal efficiencies for bisphenol A and phenol in seawater still reached 89% and 90%, respectively. Moreover, the photocatalytic efficiencies toward bisphenol A and phenol remained above 91% and 86% during testing over five cycles. Superoxide groups (O2-) and holes were the main active substances, while hydroxyl radicals (˙OH-) also played a certain role in photocatalysis. The charge-carrier concentration and mobility of β-Bi2O3 were 4.82 × 1021 cm-3 and 4.0017 cm2 V-1 s-1, respectively, based on the Hall test.
