Multilevel luminescence materials have aroused wide attention for their advanced anti-counterfeiting abilities. However, various complicated stimuli factors involved in multilevel luminescence anti-counterfeiting (MlLA) limit the practical applications of such materials. Herein, carbon dots (CDs) are in situ introduced into Eu-substituted AlPO4 -5 zeolite (named CDs@EuAPO-5) via a solvent-free thermal crystallization method, which exhibits triple emissions including pink fluorescence mainly associated with Eu3+ in the zeolite framework, blue fluorescence and green room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) associated with CDs. CDs are uniformly embedded in the EuAPO-5 zeolite matrix. Such composite displays excellent photo-, thermo-, and solvent resistance, as well as long-term storage-stability. Moreover, the triple emissions of the composite only need two kinds of common excitation lights to trigger, without involving other complicated stimuli. A triple-level luminescence anti-counterfeiting (TlLA) label has been built, realizing facile, quick, and advanced luminescence anti-counterfeiting that is hard to copy. Here, a strategy is reported to prepare Ni-Fe layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) with abundant exposed edge planes for enhanced oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The edge-to-edge assembly of ultrafine NiFe-LDH directed by graphite-like carbon is performed through a one-step hydrothermal process to form self-supporting nanosheet arrays (named NiFe-LDH/C), in which ascorbic acid is employed as the carbon precursor to control both the platelet size and the assembly mode of NiFe-LDH. Benefiting from the unique structural engineering, NiFe-LDH/C can not only achieve a fast surface reconstruction into the highly active γ-phase structure, but also exposes abundant active edge sites, thus leading to a superior OER performance with the overpotential as low as 234 mV at a current density of 50 mA cm-2 . Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the unsaturated Fe-sites and the bridge-sites connecting Ni and Fe atoms, which only exist on the edge planes of NiFe-LDH, are the main active centers responsible for promoting the intrinsic OER activity. This work provides a specific and valuable reference for the rational design of high-quality electrocatalysts through structural engineering for renewable energy applications.
Lupus nephritis (LN) is a major manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) which contributes to significant morbidity and mortality. It is unclear whether the timing of LN onset influences renal outcome. This study aimed to investigate differences in clinical features-particularly the relapse-free rate-in remission duration from induction therapies for LN and the onset timing of LN after the development of SLE.

We enrolled 66 LN patients from January 2004 to March 2020. We collected the following demographic data, laboratory data, renal histology data, and LN induction therapy data. Renal remission and relapse-free rates were calculated for each group.

Patients were first divided into early remission group (achieved renal remission in <12months [n=44]) and others (n=22). There were no significant differences in clinical data, treatments, and relapse-free rate of LN. Patients were then divided into initial-onset LN (<12months after development of SLE [n=49]) and delayed-onset LN (≥12months after development of SLE [n=17]). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the relapse-free rate was significantly higher in all patients with initial-onset LN than those with delayed-onset LN (P=.0094).

The relapse-free rate was significantly higher in the initial-onset LN group than the delayed-onset LN group of patients with LN of various histopathological backgrounds. These data suggest that delayed-onset LN is a risk factor for the relapse of LN.

The target compounds were prepared using the halogen dance reaction. Final AC inhibitors were evaluated in cell-based assays (prodrugs) and cell-free assays (phosphono diphosphates). Novel ANPs were potent inhibitors of adenylate cyclase toxin (ACT) from Bordetella pertussis and edema factor (EF) from Bacillus anthracis, with substantial selectivity over mammalian enzymes AC1, AC2, and AC5. Six of the new ANPs were more potent or equipotent ACT inhibitors (IC50 =9-18 nM), and one of them was more potent EF inhibitor (IC50 =12 nM), compared to adefovir diphosphate (PMEApp) with IC50 =18 nM for ACT and IC50 =36 nM for EF. Thus, these compounds represent the most potent ACT/EF inhibitors based on ANPs reported to date. The potency of the phosphonodiamidates to inhibit ACT activity in J774A.1 macrophage cells was somewhat weaker, where the most potent derivative had IC50 =490 nM compared to IC50 =150 nM of the analogous adefovir phosphonodiamidate. The results suggest that more efficient type of phosphonate prodrugs would be desirable to increase concentrations of the ANP-based active species in the cells in order to proceed with the development of ANPs as potential antitoxin therapeutics.Endocytosis plays key roles during infection of plant-pathogenic fungi, but its regulatory mechanisms are still largely unknown. Here, we identified a putative endocytosis-related gene, PAL1, which was highly expressed in appressorium of Magnaporthe oryzae, and was found to be important for appressorium formation and maturation. Deletion of PAL1 significantly reduced the virulence of M. oryzae due to defects in appressorial penetration and invasive growth in host cells. 1-PHENYL-2-THIOUREA molecular weight The Pal1 protein interacted and colocalized with the endocytosis protein Sla1, suggesting it is involved in endocytosis. The Δpal1 mutant was significantly reduced in appressorium formation, which was recovered by adding exogenous cAMP and 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX). Moreover, the phosphorylation level of Pmk1 in Δpal1 was also reduced, suggesting Pal1 functions upstream of both the cAMP and Pmk1 signalling pathways. As a consequence, the utilization of glycogen and lipid, appressorial autophagy, actin ring formation, localization of septin proteins, as well as turgor accumulation were all affected in the Δpal1 mutant. Taken together, Pal1 regulates cAMP and the Pmk1 signalling pathway for appressorium formation and maturation to facilitate infection of M. oryzae.
People living with HIV (PLHIV) who use illicit drugs (other than or in addition to cannabis) are living longer due to antiretroviral therapy (ART). Older PLHIV who use drugs have an increased risk for comorbidities, and managing multiple health conditions is a growing concern among this population. However, in-depth understandings of the lived realities and complexities of living with HIV alongside comorbidities among older PLHIV who use drugs remain limited. We sought to explore how older PLHIV who use drugs manage their comorbid conditions in a setting with universal ART access.

Between January 2019 and March 2020, semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted in Vancouver, Canada with 42 older PLHIV who use drugs and were living with at least one comorbidity. All participants were currently on ART, and had initiated treatment at least 2 years prior to the interviews. Data were analysed using inductive and deductive approaches.

Several themes were identified through this analysis. First, comorbind non-judgemental delivery of such care for an ageing population of PLHIV who use drugs.MXenes attract tremendous research efforts since their discovery in 2011 due to their unique physical and chemical properties, allowing for application in various fields. One of them is electrochemical energy storage due to their pseudocapacitive (=redox) behavior, high electronic conductivity, and charge storage versatility regarding the cationic species (e.g., Li+ ). MXenes typically display stable charge/discharge cycling behavior over hundreds of cycles in numerous electrolytes, however, a drastic loss of reversible capacity is detectable during the initial cycles. Furthermore, an electrochemical "activation" is also reported in the literature, especially for free-standing electrodes. Here, these electrochemical phenomena are investigated by electrochemical and analytical means to decipher the responsible mechanism by comparing few-layered and multi-layered Ti3 C2 Tx . A change in the pseudocapacitive behavior of MXenes during cycling can be explained by in situ X-ray diffraction studies, revealing solvent co-intercalation in the first cycle for the morphologically different MXenes. This co-intercalation is responsible for the capacity decay detected in the first cycles and is also responsible for the ongoing "activation" occurring in later cycles. The experimental investigation of side-chain effects on intramolecular charge transport in π-conjugated molecules is essential but remains challenging. Herein, the dependence of intra-molecular conductance on the nature of branching alkyl chains is investigated through a combination of the scanning tunneling microscope break junction (STM-BJ) technique and density functional theory. Three thiophene-flanked diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) derivatives with different branching alkyl chains (isopentane, 3-methylheptane, and 9-methylnonadecane) are used with phenylthiomethyl groups as the anchoring groups. The results of single-molecule conductance measurements show that as the alkyl chain becomes longer, the torsional angles between the aromatic rings increase due to steric crowding, and therefore, the molecular conductance of DPP decreases due to reduction in conjugation. Both theoretical simulations and 1 H NMR spectra demonstrate that the planarity of the DPPs is directly reduced after introducing longer branching alkyl chains, which leads to a reduced conductance. This work indicates that the effect of the insulating side chain on the single-molecule conductance cannot be neglected, which should be considered for the design of future organic semiconducting materials.
The prognostic value of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in colorectal cancer patients has remained inconsistent between nonmetastatic and metastatic settings. So far, very few studies have included LDH in the prognostic analysis of curative-intent surgery for colorectal liver metastases (CRLM).

Five hundred and eighty consecutive metastatic colorectal cancer patients who underwent curative-intent CRLM resection from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (434 patients) and Sun Yat-sen University Sixth Affiliated Hospital (146 patients) in 2000-2019 were retrospectively collected. Overall survival (OS) was the primary end point. Cox regression model was performed to identify the prognostic values of preoperative serum LDH levels and other clinicopathology variables. A modification of the established Fong CRS scoring system comprising LDH was developed within this Chinese population.

At the median follow-up time of 60.5months, median OS was 59.5months in the pooled cohort. In the multivariate analysis, preoperative LDH >upper limit of normal (250 U/L) was the strongest independent prognostic factor for OS (HR 1.
