Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are localized dilatations of intracranial arteries due to weaknesses of the endothelial layer. IAs may be treated by flow diverters (FDs), alternatively to stents and coils combination. FD is a method for the treatment of IAs especially for large, wide-necked or fusiform aneurysms. In this case report, we described a 65-year-old woman with IA who were treated by FD.

A 65-year-old woman was diagnosed with a giant aneurysm at the posterior inferior cerebellar artery segment of the left internal carotid artery. Then based on the computed tomography data of this woman, aneurysm vascular stent model was constructed before and after FD, and internal pressure, velocity, wall shear stress (WSS) of aneurysms were determined by CFD analysis. The effect of single FD stent+30% filling on blood flow was more obvious, but the aneurysm rupture was caused by excessive coil packing. So, a single stent+10% coil packing rate was the best option for treating aneurysms.

CFD analysis for flow velocity and WSS have protection on aneurysms.Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) involving social-isolation strategies such as self-quarantine (SQ) and social-distancing (SD) are useful in controlling the spread of infections that are transmitted through human-to-human contacts, e.g., respiratory diseases such as COVID-19. In the absence of a safe and effective cure or vaccine during the first ten months of the COVID-19 pandemic, countries around the world implemented these social-isolation strategies and other NPIs to reduce COVID-19 transmission. But, individual and public perception play a crucial role in the success of any social-isolation measure. Thus, in spite of governments' initiatives to use NPIs to combat COVID-19 in many countries around the world, individual choices rendered social-isolation unsuccessful in some of these countries. This resulted in huge outbreaks that imposed a substantial morbidity, mortality, hospitalization, economic, etc., toll on human lives. In particular, human choices pose serious challenges to public health str.While most of the countries around the globe are combating the pandemic of COVID-19, the level of its impact is quite variable among different countries. In particular, the data from Nepal, a developing country having an open border provision with highly COVID-19 affected country India, has shown a biphasic pattern of epidemic, a controlled phase (until July 21, 2020) followed by an outgrown phase (after July 21, 2020). To uncover the effective strategies implemented during the controlled phase, we develop a mathematical model that is able to describe the data from both phases of COVID-19 dynamics in Nepal. Using our best parameter estimates with 95% confidence interval, we found that during the controlled phase most of the recorded cases were imported from outside the country with a small number generated from the local transmission, consistent with the data. Our model predicts that these successful strategies were able to maintain the reproduction number at around 0.21 during the controlled phase, preventing 442,640 cases of COVID-19 and saving more than 1,200 lives in Nepal. However, during the outgrown phase, when the strategies such as border screening and quarantine, lockdown, and detection and isolation, were altered, the reproduction number raised to 1.8, resulting in exponentially growing cases of COVID-19. We further used our model to predict the long-term dynamics of COVID-19 in Nepal and found that without any interventions the current trend may result in about 18.76 million cases (10.70 million detected and 8.06 million undetected) and 89 thousand deaths in Nepal by the end of 2021. Finally, using our predictive model, we evaluated the effects of various control strategies on the long-term outcome of this epidemics and identified ideal strategies to curb the epidemic in Nepal.Viruses are obligate pathogens that cause a wide range of diseases across all kingdoms of life. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in "chronic enlarging" or "chronic active" multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions that are associated with clinical disability. However, investigation of dynamic lesion volume changes requires longitudinal MRI data from two or more time points. The aim of this study was to investigate the application of texture analysis (TA) on baseline T1-weighted 3D magnetization-prepared rapid acquisition gradient-echo (MPRAGE) images to differentiate chronic active from chronic stable MS lesions.

To identify chronic active lesions as compared to non-enhancing stable lesions, two MPRAGE datasets acquired on a 3T MRI at baseline and after 12months follow-up were applied to the Voxel-Guided Morphometry (VGM) algorithm. TA was performed on the baseline MPRAGE images, 36 texture features were extracted for each lesion.

Overall, 374 chronic MS lesions (155 chronic active and 219 chronic stable lesions) from 60 MS patients were included in the final analysis. Multiple texture features including "DISCRETIZED_HISTO_Energy", "GLCM_Energy", "GLCM_Contrast" and "GLCM_Dissimilarity" were significantly higher in chronic active as compared to chronic stable lesions. Partial least squares regression yielded an area under the curve of 0.7 to differentiate both lesion types.

Two groups of rats received training to press a lever for food where each acquisition session was preceded by administration of a tickling procedure (Context A) known to induce positive affective states. Then, lever pressing underwent extinction where rats received a pure handling treatment (Context B) before each session. During a final test session, we found stronger responding when the session was preceded by tickling (Group ABA) compared to handling (Group ABB), indicating an ABA renewal effect. Furthermore, test performance in Group ABB was not different from that in a third group where handling preceded acquisition sessions, and tickling extinction and test sessions (Group BAA), showing that tickling did not elevate instrumental responding during the test if it had been unrelated to initial acquisition. We tested this hypothesis with galliform birds Gambel's quail (Callipepla gambelii) and two domestic chicken breeds (Gallus gallus domesticus; Plymouth Rocks, Cochin Bantams). We measured innate avoidance and learning responses to only blue prey, only orange prey, and orange-and-blue prey, where the blue was iridescent to represent the natural coloration of the pipevine swallowtail butterfly (Battus philenor). We predicted birds would have similar responses to orange, but vary in response to blue. Upon first encounter, Cochin Bantams did not attack blue and Gambel's quail readily attacked, indicating innate avoidance by Cochin Bantams. Plymouth Rocks had no innate aversion to any color, lower attack latencies and attacked most prey items. Cochin Bantams and Gambel's quail both learned orange and orange-and-blue quicker than blue. The information on Dmrts and their functions are still scarce in mud crab Scylla paramamosain. In this study, 12 published transcriptome data of S. link2 paramamosain were retrieved, pooled, and assembled. From the assembly, 7 Dmrt gene family members were identified and consisted of Spdmrt-like, Spdmrt-1a, Spdmrt-3, Spdmrt-11E, Spidmrt-1, Spdoublesex (Spdsx), and Spidmrt-2. These dmrt genes were predicted to encode 224 aa, 465 aa, 435 aa, 276 aa, 520 aa, 552 aa, and 266 aa protein precursors, respectively. The expression patterns of the dmrt genes were characterized by semi-quantitative PCR. The Spdmrt-like and Spdmrt-1a were exclusively detected in gonads, of which both expression levels in the testis were higher than that in the ovary.
