We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the best one. We looked at the capacity of storage, layout, and energy efficiency, among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like its name implies, the GE Profile series is targeted at those who wish to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their kitchen. This refrigerator has it all including the Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Given that this fridge costs a premium, I expect higher quality.

This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the small blip. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door fridges, and it holds a fair amount of frozen food in comparison to similar models.

The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is the standard for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It also has a decent sized ice maker that is tucked away in the left door, but it isn't the largest I've seen.

You can alter the shelving in each compartment to create a customized storage layout for what you want to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is stylish, too. The LED lighting adds an attractive accent. The storage bins in the door include a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers include temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, although I found their textured plastic coatings a bit hard on the fingers.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is a stunning piece of equipment. It's designed to appear like a seamless piece of your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and two compressors for preserving food. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient, and it produces pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This fridge is perfect for a single family or a kitchenette with a built-in appearance and top-of-the highest quality food preservation.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for various reasons. The freezer temperatures remained steady at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, never moving by more than a fraction an inch. This is essential to avoiding freezing burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the initial temperature within a matter of hours, and maintained that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its top-of-the-line appliances and appliances, so it's not a surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth fridge is a great option for those who require lots of space within an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge features an ordinary French door design, with two rows of spill-capture shelving and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded in order to create more space for taller items. You'll also find a full-width deli drawer and an internal water dispenser.

One of the nice aspects of this refrigerator is that its ice maker is in the freezer, making it simple to move ice into the fridge to use as required. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that can help you to organize the place of items. It also has a large container for storing frozen food, and a separate bin for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. It lets you manage the refrigerator's temperature and lighting via your smartphone. It's a great way to control and monitor your refrigerator, particularly if you're away from home.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good option for those looking to combine the benefits of a French-door refrigerator's aesthetics with an efficient layout. Its capacity is higher than average for a counter-depth model, and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also a bit cheaper than the top counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which makes it a great choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door refrigerator that won't break the bank this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a basic refrigerator that may not be as appealing as some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make it a suitable option. Its most notable feature is the adjustable temperature drawer helps to keep food items like vegetables and meat fresher longer. It also has a large water dispenser as well as a good ice maker that operates quickly.

Another great feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you use a portion of the fridge's cooling power to this area, so it can be used to store food items which need extra attention. You can alter this feature using the slider located on the on the outside of the drawer. You can also set the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

In my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent across different areas of the fridge. Temperatures at the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a good performance but does not quite make it to the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to a smart thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of gray-bodied stainless with a "smudge proof" finish. It does a great job of removing streaks and fingerprints, even compared to glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
