The Benefits and Drawbacks of a 3 Wheeled Pushchair
A three-wheeled pushchair is perfect if you walk regularly on rough terrain or run. They are a great option if need a buggy that can handle all types of terrain, from busy streets to tracks in the woods.
For greater maneuverability, opt for a model with locking or swivelling front wheels. Larger wheels both front and back offer an easier ride on varying surfaces.
Manoeuvrability
Manoeuvrability is among the key benefits of a 3 wheel pushchair. The wheels are set close to each other, allowing the chassis to rotate and turn more easily than a standard four wheel pushchair. This makes them ideal for busy streets and shopping. Some models have smaller front wheels that are locked and swivelled for additional maneuverability. The Roma Atlas has two wheels in the front positioned close together and a smart lock that allows it to be as solid as a 3-wheeler while still allowing for the same maneuverability.
A lot of our top-selling 3 wheelers are also 4-in-1 travel systems that can transform from a stroller to toddler seat and car seat carrier as your child grows. This is great if you're planning on travelling with your family or on frequent trips to the shops. The Baby Jogger Nipper is a perfect example. It features Hauck XL airwheels, a 360-degree swivel lockable wheel, and a suspension that allows it to be used on any terrain.
Another option is the ickle bubba Nipper, an all-terrain pushchair with a great suspension and huge puncture-proof tyres that make it suitable for off-roading and smooth city pavements. It can be used from the beginning with the reversible seat, or carrycot compatible. It also features an easy fold that can be folded with one hand for storage in the boot, and for travel to airports.
It is essential to select the correct wheels for your pushchair based on where it will be used the most. Moulded wheels are great for urban use, but they won't do well on rougher ground. If you plan on taking your pushchair off pavements you should choose tyres that are filled with air, sometimes known as pneumatic tyres that are capable of handling rough terrain.
If you're looking for a model that can be used in both rural and urban locations, then look no further than our top-rated Bugaboo Fox 5 All Terrain pushchair. It has all the suspension and big wheels you'd expect from an all-terrain pushchair, but it's also an urban pushchair that is extremely light with a lockable front wheel.
Stability
You can increase the stability of your buggy by searching for certain features. For instance, some models come with a swivelling front wheels that can be locked in place to give you extra stability when driving on rough terrain. This is particularly useful if you plan to use your pushchair for jogging or off-road. It will allow you to confidently navigate on different surfaces.
Another excellent stability feature is suspension - this will make your baby's buggy more comfortable for both baby and parents particularly on uneven ground. Some brands provide the option of swapping out tyres with different sizes so that you can alter the performance of your pushchair to suit the terrain you'll be taking it on.
You should consider investing in a three-wheeled pushchair with air-filled tires if you want a pushchair that is able to handle any terrain. These wheels will provide smoother rides over bumps and are less likely to puncture than solid wheels. These wheels allow you to use your buggy on surfaces that are not paved and can be used on many surfaces, including grass, sand, and mud.
All-terrain strollers are usually larger than standard strollers, but there are still several great options that don't compromise on maneuverability or stability. One of our favorites is the UPPAbaby Ridge that comes with a range of impressive features that make it suitable for off-road and running (once your child is old enough). These include large, foam-filled, never-flat tyres and adjustable suspension as well as a quick one-handed fold.
The Bugaboo Fox 5 is another great stroller that is all-terrain. It has similar capabilities to the UPPAbaby, and has excellent suspension, big puncture proof tires, and a one handed fold. It is compatible with many car seats and can also accommodate the carrycot. It is a bit heavier than other 3-wheelers but is still an excellent option for parents who want to take their pushchairs on all types of terrain.
Weight
The disadvantage of strollers with 3 wheels is that they're heavy, especially if you need to maneuver through rough terrain and kerbs. The larger rear wheels of a 3-wheeler increase the overall weight, which is higher than the 4-wheeler. This means you'll require more strength to lift them.
If you need an infant stroller that can withstand rough terrain and rocky tarmac it might be worth a look. These typically come with special features, like robust suspensions and large puncture-proof tyres. More and more, manufacturers are creating all-terrain pushchairs that have foam or gel-filled tyres which are not designed to go flat, and thus don't require inflation.
UPPAbaby's Ridge all-terrain pushchair comes with an array of child-friendly features that allow it to tackle many types of terrain easily. three wheel pushchair includes the ability to lock the front wheel, a quick and simple one-handed fold, a large basket, and an adjustable handlebar. MFM reviewer Becky found that the Ridge was "very excellent for woodland walks with gravel tracks, as well as market town cobbles".
iCandy is another brand that offers a selection of all terrain pushchairs. Their latest all-terrain model, the Core is suitable for babies from birth and is coupled with a carrycot or car seat adaptors. The iCandy Core has a host of features that will make it a great all-terrain pushchair, including large foam-filled, never-flat tyres as well as an excellent suspension system. The Core is heavier than other strollers for all-terrain use however it is lightweight enough to travel on more rough terrain.
Folding
All-terrain models are a good option if you want a pushchair to handle rough terrain. This kind of pushchair will have large wheels both in the front and back to help tackle rough, off-road terrain. They'll typically have more robust suspension and larger puncture resistant tyres, to prevent them from getting blocked by sticks, grass or mud.
A good example of this type of pushchair is the Mountain Buggy Ridge. This all-terrain model comes with a number of amazing features, such as a smooth suspension, spacious basket, one-handed steering, and a fast one-handed folding. It is also compatible with a car seat and a carrycot (with adaptors), so it can be used from as early as six months.
Bugaboo Fox 5 is another all-terrain stroller with impressive off-road features. It has a massive 10kg basket, an easy one-handed folding and an adjustable handlebar that can be adjusted by one hand. It also has an adjustable front wheel that locks and foam-filled, never-flat tyres, so you don't have to worry about punctures in rough terrain.
The GB Maris, a new stroller that's all-terrain and eye-catching and was introduced at the Kind + Jugend fair. It is designed for kids who have moderate to light needs for positioning. It comes with soft, adjustable components and an adjustable reclining chair. The front wheel can be locked and comes with a footbrake for safety and control.
If you're looking for a 3 wheeled pushchair or a 4-wheeler, we offer a wide range of designs and features that will fit your family. Many of the models we sell come with sturdy, durable frames and tough wheels that last a lifetime and provide fantastic storage solutions for all your baby's belongings. Additionally, they can be folded and put into the boot of your car or under the stairs when they are not being used. You'll be ready to go on the next adventure with your family.
