Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns regarding its psychological effects on people with preexisting psychiatric disorders have been raised, particularly obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Nevertheless, only a few longitudinal studies have been performed, and a more longstanding follow-up of a clinical sample is needed. In this study, our aim was to investigate the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on symptom changes in a sample of Brazilian OCD patients for about a one-year period.

Thirty OCD outpatients seen in a specialized OCD clinic in Rio de Janeiro were evaluated at baseline and after one year (during the pandemic). Sociodemographic and clinical variables were collected along with a questionnaire aimed at quantifying the number of stressful events related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Comparisons between two time points (pre vs. during COVID-19) and two subgroups (patients with vs without worsening of symptoms) were carried out.

As a group, OCD patients treated with SRIs had an overall stabilization of symptoms throughout the follow-up period, regardless of the number of stressful experiences related to coronavirus (median baseline YBOCS remained 22.0at follow-up). In addition, when individually analyzed, even those who reported an increase in their symptoms did not describe a greater number of COVID-19 related events.

Previous work in Latinx mothers indicates that prenatal discrimination influences epigenetic immune markers that may increase risk for postpartum depression. Discrimination and acculturative stress have also been linked to cellular aging, including telomere degradation, in Hispanic populations broadly, but not in this particularly vulnerable population. The present work addressed this gap in a sample of 150 Latinx mothers living in the United States (mean age 27.6 years). Psychosocial measures (including discrimination, stress, and mental health) and blood were collected at 24-32 weeks gestation. Psychosocial measures were re-evaluated at 4-6 weeks postpartum. First, we examined the relationship between maternal prenatal cultural stress (i.e., discrimination and acculturative stress) and telomere length (TL). Second, we tested whether TL predicted postpartum depression. Acculturative stress - but not discrimination - predicted shorter TL, especially among participants with high methylation of the FOXP3 promoter region. Further, shorter telomere measures during pregnancy predicted greater postpartum depression symptom severity. TL was not related to any sociodemographic characteristics such as age, income, country of origin, or years in the United States. These results highlight the uniquely impactful role of acculturative stress on Latinx maternal health and the potential interactive role of telomere length and epigenetic immune alterations in risk for maternal mental health concerns.
Identifying predictors of mental health symptoms after the initial phase of the pandemic may inform the development of targeted interventions to reduce its negative long-term mental health consequences. In the current study, we aimed to simultaneously evaluate the prospective influence of life change stress, personal COVID-19 impact, prior mental health, worry about COVID-19, state-level indicators of pandemic threat, and socio-demographic factors on mood and anxiety symptoms in November 2020 among adults and children in the US and UK.

We used a longitudinal cohort study using the Coronavirus Health Impact Survey (CRISIS) collected at 3 time points an initial assessment in April 2020 ("April"), a reassessment 3 weeks later ("May"), and a 7-month follow-up in November 2020 ("November"). Online surveys were collected in the United States and United Kingdom by Prolific Academic, a survey recruitment service, with a final sample of 859 Adults and 780 children (collected via parent report). We found subtypes oeen adults and children, with lifestyle changes stress regarding friendships being more predictive of mood outcomes than worries about COVID in children. In the US, objective state-level indicators of COVID-19 threat were less predictive of November mood than these other predictors. We found that in addition to the well-established influences of prior mood and worry, heterogeneous subtypes of pandemic-related stress were differentially associated with mood after the initial phase of the pandemic. Greater research on diverse patterns of pandemic experience may elucidate modifiable targets for treatment and prevention.Paranoia is associated with significant distress and is associated with childhood trauma. Theoretical proposals suggest that negative schema and insecure attachment may be important mechanisms in the development of paranoia. Disorganised attachment may be particularly relevant. The current study is the first to examine whether the relationship between childhood interpersonal trauma and paranoia is mediated by disorganised attachment, and the impact of disorganised attachment on negative self and negative other schema. A large online sample of 242 people with self-reported psychosis completed measures of childhood trauma, attachment, self and other schema, paranoia and psychosis symptomatology. Path analysis indicated that childhood interpersonal trauma was associated with disorganised attachment, which in turn was associated with negative self-schema, negative other schema, and paranoia. Negative schema about others, but not self, was associated with paranoia. Disorganised attachment and negative other schema fully mediated the relationship between trauma and paranoia. The prevalence of suicidal ideation (SI) and behavior (SB) among people suffering from psychotic disorders is a public health issue. Most suicide attempts (SAs) occur before or during the early phases of first-episode psychosis (FEP). Improving knowledge about the suicide risk in the early stages is essential to develop therapeutic and prevention strategies. We conducted a systematic review to investigate an association between neurocognitive impairments or a history of impulsive behavior and SI or SB among patients with FEP.

PRISMA guidelines were followed. Ten databases were searched using MeSH terms or key-words related to FEP, impulsivity or cognitive functioning measures and SI or SB, without restrictions for study design or length of follow-up. Included studies evaluated at least one cognitive function with neuropsychological tests or validated questionnaires, or provided records of impulsive behavior.

Future perspectives and challenges of aptamer-based Mb detection are discussed in brief as well.Jian'er Xiaoshi oral liquid (JEXS), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, has been principally applied to treat spleen deficiency with gastrointestinal dysfunction in children caused by improper diet. However, due to a lack of research on the holistic component and metabolism of JEXS, the bioactive components of it remain unclear, hindering further study on its quality control and in vivo activity mechanism. In present study, an integrated analysis strategy based on ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) was established to systematically screen the components and the in vivo xenobiotics of JEXS. Totally 142 compounds in JEXS were characterized, 54 of which were identified. Besides, 178 xenobiotics were detected, including 52 prototypes and 126 metabolites, while the in vivo metabolic modes of chrysin-C-glycosyls and sinapinic acid derivatives were elucidated for the first time. Our investigation gave a comprehensive analysis of the compounds and metabolic characteristics of JEXS which indicated the direction of finding the bioactive ingredients and will provide an important basis for quality control and further study on the pharmacodynamic mechanism of JEXS.In recent years, anabolic androgenic steroids (AASs) have been frequently detected as undeclared ingredients in dietary supplements, where the adverse analytical findings (AAFs) were obtained from analysis of athletes' urine samples after ingestion. In our present study, a GC-MS/MS method for simultaneous detection of 93 anabolic steroids was developed. The chromatographic and mass spectrometric conditions were optimized, and selective reaction monitoring (SRM) mode was adopted to obtain the necessary sensitivity. The whole sample analysis process was completed within 23 min, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.5-4 ng.g-1 for solid samples and 0.1-0.8 ng.mL-1 for liquid samples. This method was verified according to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations. In addition, the method was found to be specific, accurate. The developed method was then applied to a routine analysis of more than 300 liquid and solid dietary supplements, and one testosterone-positive sample was found. Three suspected drugs, (4-hydroxyandrostenedione, DHEA, and 6-Br androstenedione) were found in three dietary supplements obtained from the Internet through the pretreatment method of this study.
