Cytoprotective IgG antibodies in sera from the part involving patients along with AQP4-IgG seropositive neuromyelitis optica array disorder.
The remaining 11 patients were periodically followed up, and no recurrences were found. The results of univariate analysis suggested that endoscopic treatment method, the depth of invasion, and EUS evaluation correlated with positive resection margin. Multivariate regression analysis suggested that the depth of invasion and EUS evaluation were risk factors for resection margin residues. Conclusions The depth of invasion and EUS evaluation are independent risk factors for positive resection margins after endoscopic resection. This finding suggests that a greater depth of invasion increases the risk for positive resection margins, while EUS evaluation before resection decreases this risk.Introduction In recent years, laparoscopic surgery (LS) has been performed for small bowel obstruction (SBO). BzATP triethylammonium However, the indications and short-term and long-term outcomes of LS for SBO have not yet been established. Aim To evaluate the usefulness of LS for SBO compared to open surgery (OS), as well as to identify risk factors for poor outcomes after LS. Material and methods A total of 105 patients who underwent surgery for SBO were divided into OS (n = 64) and LS (n = 41) groups, and propensity score-matched analysis was used to compare the short-term and long-term outcomes of the groups. Risk factors for conversion to OS, postoperative complications, and intraoperative bowel injury in LS were also identified. Results The incidences of surgical site infection and postoperative ileus were significantly lower in the LS group. The incidence of recurrent bowel did not differ significantly between the two groups. Prior bowel obstruction was a risk factor for conversion of LS to OS (odds ratio (OR) = 24.79, p = 0.0025). Bowel diameter was a risk factor for postoperative complications (OR = 1.50, 95% CI 1.01-2.22) and for bowel injury (OR = 1.33, 95% CI 1.05-1.67). Conclusions LS for SBO had better postoperative short-term outcomes than OS. The outcomes of LS for SBO were significantly affected by prior bowel obstruction and bowel diameter.Introduction Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is one of the most popular bariatric operations and one of the most frequently studied areas in bariatric surgery. Aim To summarise the characteristics of the most frequently cited studies focusing on SG. Material and methods We used the Web of Science database to identify all studies focused on SG published from 2000 to 2018. The term "sleeve gastrectomy" and synonyms were used to reveal the 100 most cited records. Results The most frequently cited publication had 493 citations. The highest mean number of citations per year was 73.00. Studies were most frequently published in the years 2010 and 2012. Articles were most commonly published in bariatric surgery-oriented journals. Conclusions Our study indicates an increase in medical researchers' interest in the subject of SG and underlines the need to perform studies with a higher level of evidence to further analyse the outcomes and basic science behind SG.Background DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK), consisting of a Ku heterodimer (Ku70/80) and a large catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs), plays an important role in the repair of DNA double-strand breaks via non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ) in mammalian cells. Severe combined immunodeficient (scid) mice carry a mutation in the gene encoding DNA-PKcs and are sensitive to ionizing radiation. To examine the roles of DNA-PKcs in the generation of deletion mutations in vivo, we crossed scid mice with gpt delta transgenic mice for detecting mutations. Results The scid and wild-type (WT) gpt delta transgenic mice were irradiated with a single X-ray dose of 10 Gy, and Spi- mutant frequencies (MFs) were determined in the brain and spleen 2 days after irradiation. Irradiation with X-rays significantly enhanced Spi- MF in both organs in the scid and WT mice. The MFs in the brain of irradiated scid mice were significantly lower than those in WT mice, i.e., 2.9 ± 1.0 × 10- 6 versus 5.0 ± 1.1 × 10- 6 (P less then 0.001), respectively. In the spleen, however, both mouse strains exhibited similar MFs, i.e., 4.1 ± 1.8 × 10- 6 versus 4.8 ± 1.4 × 10- 6. Unirradiated scid and WT mice did not exhibit significant differences in MFs in either organ. Conclusions DNA-PKcs is unessential for the induction of deletion mutations in the spleen, while it plays a role in this in the brain. Therefore, the contribution of DNA-PKcs to NHEJ may be organ-specific.In recent years remarkable efforts have been made to produce artificial bone through tissue engineering techniques. Silk fibroin (SF) and hydroxyapatite (HA) have been used in bone tissue regeneration as biomaterials due to mechanical properties of SF and biocompatibility of HA. There has been growing interest in developing SF/HA composites to reduce bone defects. In this regard, several attempts have been made to study the biocompatibility and osteoconductive properties of this material. This article overviews the recent advance from last few decades in terms of the preparative methods and application of SF/HA in bone regeneration. Its first part is related to SF that presents the most common sources, preparation methods and comparison of SF with other biomaterials. The second part illustrates the importance of HA by providing information about its production and properties. The third part presents comparative studies of SF/HA composites with different concentrations of HA along with methods of preparation of composites and their applications.CoCrNi, CoCrW and CoCrMo alloys were fabricated by powder metallurgy technology. The effect of nickel, tungsten and molybdenum, as alloying elements, on the microstructure, phase, mechanical and high-temperature tribological properties of CoCr matrix alloys were systematically studied. The wear and friction behaviors were investigated from room temperature (23 °C) to 1000 °C. The alloys were found to contain different ratios of γ(fcc) and ε(hcp) phases; Ni stabilized γ(fcc), while W and Mo stabilized ε(hcp). The hardness measurements showed that the strengthening effect increased with the addition of Ni, W, and Mo, respectively. Addition of Mo and W resulted in the lowest and highest friction coefficients with the addition of Ni resulting in a friction coefficient between the two. The wear and friction behaviors of the three alloys depended on the phase, alloying elements and oxidation from room temperature to 1000 °C. Coefficients of friction of the alloys were not directly correlated with the wear rates. CoCr matrix alloys reinforced with Mo showed the highest hardness and the best high-temperature tribological performance. It was attributed to the high hardness, stable oxide film, and in situ formed high-temperature solid lubricants. With an increase in temperature, the wear mechanism was found to change from abrasive wear to oxidative wear. There are two types of creep constitutive equation, one with a steady-state term (steady-state type) and the other with no steady-state term (non-steady-state type). We applied the Bayesian inference framework in order to examine which type is supported by experimental creep curves for a Grade 91 (Gr.91) steel. The Bayesian free energy was significantly lower for the steady-state type under all the test conditions in the ranges of 50-90 MPa at 923 K, 90-160 MPa at 873 K and 170-240 MPa at 823 K, leading to the conclusion that the posterior probability was virtually 1.0. These findings mean that the experimental data supported the steady-state-type equation. The dependence of the evaluated steady-state creep rate on the applied stress indicates that there is a transition in the mechanism governing creep deformation around 120 MPa.Background Population-based data on the prognosis of brain metastases at initial diagnosis of ovary cancer (OCBM) are currently lacking. Besides, the effective treatment for OCBM patients is still controversial now. The study aimed to explore the prognostic factors among OCBM. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the OCBM patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result (SEER) database of the National Cancer Institute to investigate predictors of the presence of OCBM and its' prognostic factors related to all-cause mortality. We employed multivariable logistic and Cox regression analysis. Furthermore, to minimize the impact of potential confounding factors, we conducted a 11 propensity score matching (PSM) analysis. Results A total of 29,512 cases of OC patients entered into the study, including 89 patients with brain metastases of ovarian cancer, which accounted for 0.30% of the entire cohort and 12.02% of the metastatic disease subset. We identified eight factors, including laterality, histology, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and extracranial metastatic sites to bone, liver, and lung, as predictors of OCBM based on multivariable logistic regression among the entire cohort. The median survival time of OCBM was 2.0 months, and the interquartile range was 2.0-10.0 mo. The patients who received comprehensive treatment had better prognosis. Based on the multivariable Cox model, marital status, surgery, chemotherapy, and extensive therapy (including RSC, SC, and RC) were identified as predictors of OS. Besides, a new factor (brain metastasis) was identified by 11 PSM -based multiple Cox regression, apart from the above prognostic factors for OS. Conclusions This study provided a population-based estimate of the proportion and prognosis for newly diagnosed ovary cancer with brain metastases. These findings may add materials to guidelines for preliminary screening and optimal treatment of OCBM patients.Platelet-derived growth receptor α (PDGFRα) is a key factor in many pathophysiological processes. The expression level of PDGFRα is significantly elevated in the early stage of liver development and maintained at a lower level in adult normal livers. In this study, we constructed a liver-specific PDGFRαD842 mutant transgenic (TG) mice model to explore the effect of continuous activation of PDGFRα on liver regeneration and hepatocarcinogenesis. 14-day-old TG and wild-type (WT) mice were intraperitoneally injected with diethylnitrosamine (DEN) at a dose of 25 μg/g body weight. Two-month-old male TG and WT mice were subjected to partial hepatectomy (PH). The liver tissues were collected for further analysis at different time points. Overexpression of PDGFRα D842V and its target genes, Akt, c-myc and cyclin D1 in hepatocytes with no overt phenotype versus WT mice were compared. Unexpectedly, a dramatic decrease in hepatocyte proliferation was noted after PH in TG versus WT mice, possibly due to the downregulation of hepatocyte growth factor receptor (MET) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). No TG mice developed HCC spontaneously after 14 months follow-up. However, TG mice were more resistant to DEN-induced hapatocarcinogenesis at 6, 10, and 12 months of age, showing delayed hepatocyte proliferation and apoptosis, lower tumor incidence, smaller size and fewer number, compared with age-matched WTs, partially through downregulation of MET and EGFR. In conclusion, continuous activation of PDGFRα signaling by expression of PDGFRα D842V does not promote, but inhibit hepatic regeneration and hepatocarcinogenesis, possibly through compensatory downregulation of MET and EGFR.
