Acanthus ilicifolius, also referred to as holly mangrove, usually grows in the coastal areas in southern China. It is not only a pioneer species of mangroves but also an important medicinal mangrove plant. In June 2019, leaf spots on A. ilicifolius with disease incidence of about 30 to 40% were observed in about 150 plants in a field located in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, China. The disease mainly occurred on the leaf margins or tips. Initial symptoms of the disease were dark brown spots (5 to 9 mm) surrounded by a yellow halo, that expanded irregularly or semicircularly, until finally the leaves turned chlorotic and defoliated. Six samples of symptomatic leaves were excised, surface sterilized with 75% ethanol 30 s, 0.1% HgCl2 30 s, and rinsed three times with sterile water, and cut into small pieces (5 mm × 5 mm), placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) at 25°C and darkness, and two isolates with different morphological characteristics were obtained after 3 days. For pathogenicity tests of the isolatesbase pairs) and 100% (290/290, 290/290, 290/290 base pairs) to corresponding genes FJ853033, MH763700, and MK589886 sequences of C. cassiicola in GenBank, respectively. Phylogenetic tree generated with MEGA7 by the neighbor-joining analysis revealed that the isolate's ITS, ACT, TUB2 and TEF1-α sequences were grouped in the same clade to C. cassiicola. Based on both the morphological characteristics and sequences analyses, the pathogen causing leaf spot of A. ilicifolius was identified as C. cassiicola. This species had been reported on the A. ilicifolius in Guam America and Hong Kong China (Lu et al. 2000; Zhuang 2001; Dixon et al. 2009; Sumabat et al. 2018). The best of our knowledge, it is the first report of C. cassiicola causing leaf spot of A. ilicifolius in China. This disease may a potential threat to A. ilicifolius along the coastal regions of southern China.Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) is a fungus causing Fusarium wilt of banana (Musa spp.). The fungus is divided into three races and 24 vegetative compatibility groups (VCG) of which VCG 01213/16, commonly known as Foc tropical race 4 (Foc TR4), is of particular concern. Foc TR4 severely affects Cavendish (AAA) bananas, which comprise about 50% of all bananas produced globally, as well as many varieties susceptible to the other races of Foc. The pathogen was restricted to Southeast Asia and Australia until 2012, where after it has been detected in the Middle East, Mozambique in Africa, and Colombia in South America (Viljoen et al. 2020). Here we report the first detection of Foc TR4 in the French department of Mayotte, located in the Indian Ocean. In September 2019, leaf yellowing and wilting symptoms were observed in individual plants of the banana subgroups Silk (AAB) (cv. "Kissoukari") and Bluggoe (ABB) (cv. "Baraboufaka"). The symptomatic individuals were found in private gardens in the village of AAA) plants (cv. "Kontriké"). This is the first time that Foc TR4 has been found on a banana variety other than Cavendish when newly detected in a country. Considering the proximity of Mayotte to other islands of the Comoros archipelago, Madagascar and the East African coast, where banana is considered an important staple, this report describes a serious threat to banana production and the livelihoods of people in the region.Late blight (LB) of potato is considered one of the most devastating plant diseases in the world. Most cultivated potatoes are susceptible to this disease. selleck chemicals llc However, wild relatives of potatoes are an excellent source of LB resistance. We screened 384 accessions of 72 different wild potato species available from the U.S. Potato GeneBank against the LB pathogen Phytophthora infestans in a detached leaf assay (DLA). P. infestans isolates US-23 and NL13316 were used in the DLA to screen the accessions. Although all plants in 273 accessions were susceptible, all screened plants in 39 accessions were resistant. Resistant and susceptible plants were found in 33 accessions. All tested plants showed a partial resistance phenotype in two accessions, segregation of resistant and partial resistant plants in nine accessions, segregation of partially resistant and susceptible plants in four accessions, and segregation of resistant, partially resistant, and susceptible individuals in 24 accessions. We found several species that were never before reported to be resistant to LB Solanum albornozii, S. agrimoniifolium, S. chomatophilum, S. ehrenbergii, S. hypacrarthrum, S. iopetalum, S. palustre, S. piurae, S. morelliforme, S. neocardenasii, S. trifidum, and S. stipuloideum. These new species could provide novel sources of LB resistance. P. infestans clonal lineage-specific screening of selected species was conducted to identify the presence of RB resistance. We found LB resistant accessions in Solanum verrucosum, Solanum stoloniferum, and S. morelliforme that were susceptible to the RB overcoming isolate NL13316, indicating the presence of RB-like resistance in these species. The cerebellum undergoes neuroplastic changes in response to motor learning. Healthy human individuals demonstrate reduced cerebellar inhibition (CBI) following motor learning. Alterations in neck sensory input due to muscular fatigue are known to impact upper limb sensorimotor processing, suggesting that neck fatigue may also impact cerebellum to motor cortex (M1) pathways in response to motor learning. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether cervical extensor muscle (CEM) fatigue alters CBI in response to motor learning. We examined 16 participants (8 CEM fatigue and 8 CEM control). A double cone transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) coil stimulated the ipsilateral cerebellar cortex 5 ms before application of contralateral test stimuli of the M1 to the right first dorsal interosseous muscle. Cerebellar-M1 activity curves were established pre- and post-motor skill acquisition (consisting of tracing sinusoidal-pattern waves with the index finger) and following either the CEM fatigue or control inteance accuracy relative to a control group. This study demonstrated that neck fatigue impacts the cerebellar-motor cortex interaction to distal hand muscles, a highly relevant finding due to the altered neck postures and fatigue accompanying increased technology use.
