3 Wheel Compact Stroller Review
Whether you're a fitness enthusiast in search of a stroller for jogging or looking for an all-purpose stroller for everyday use, there's a three-wheel compact stroller for you. The Managing Editor Sentry and Senior Review Writer Wendy Schmitz put these models through the paces on both pavement and off-road surfaces, as well as testing children's comfort in the seats.
Stroller Features
The best strollers have features that make traveling with your child much easier. If you're looking for a new 3-wheel or a 4-wheel stroller look for convenience features like a large storage basket and a tray for parents with cup holders, adjustable canopy, and more. It's important to know the features that are important to you and your family, and which you can do without.
The BOB Gear Wayfinder, our top-rated jogging stroller, comes with a wide range of features to keep moms as well as dads comfortable and happy. The handlebar can be adjusted to three different positions to accommodate caregivers of all sizes, and the wrist strap can help ensure that the stroller won't roll away when you're jogging. The Wayfinder also features the biggest sunshade in our testing group and has a large, clear window up top to let kids look out while they're relaxing. Jenni's 3-year-old daughter found the seat to be comfortably padded, so bumps in the road don't cause him to shake.
This jogging stoller comes with an automatic handbrake that helps you maintain control on slippery surfaces. It folds into a slim, compact package that will take up little space in the trunk of your car. It is also possible to convert it into a travel system by purchasing an adapter. It is also compatible with the Uppababy Mesa V2 Bassinet.
Solid tires are essential for strollers that will be used on terrains that are rough. Solid tires aren't as comfortable as spongy-filled or air-filled tires, but they're perfect to navigate bumps and potholes.
This jogging stroller features a fold-up that requires just two steps. It locks into position when folded, and is compact enough to fit into most elevators. However it's not as easy to maneuver as our other 4-wheel strollers, and the lock mechanism is a bit difficult to understand. It requires pressing an icon on the front of the stroller, opening a flap on the foot area, and then lifting a handle. We'd rather have a simpler system that simply clicks into place or opens by pulling.
Stroller Weight
The weight of the overall stroller is a significant aspect to take into consideration. A stroller that is heavier is more stable and can perform better on rough terrain. However, a lot of parents find that a stroller with a lighter weight is more maneuverable and more suitable for use in everyday situations.
3 wheeler pushchair and size of the wheels is an important feature. Some strollers come with larger wheels, like jogging ones, which can make the ride smoother for your baby. Larger wheels can add weight to the stroller, making it difficult to fold, transport and store.
Certain models we offer include air-filled tires that are designed to offer an enjoyable and stable ride for your child, even over rough terrain. Air-filled tires are prone to flattening, so you have to replace them. If 3 wheeler pushchair intend to travel frequently with your stroller, we recommend an option with sturdy tires that can withstand regular contact with various surfaces and last for a longer time.
Strollers with swivel front wheels are ideal for navigating stairs and escalators safely. Falls on stairs or escalators are the most frequent accidents involving strollers, and can be particularly dangerous for infants. If you can't avoid using an escalator or stairs with your stroller we recommend using it if your child is safely strapped into the seat. Also ensure that they are close to you as you walk up and down.
Some strollers come as a travel system which includes both the car seat as well as the stroller. These types of products are usually more expensive and commodious than their separate counterparts and they may not be as effective in the long-term. Additionally many parents end up regretting buying a bundled product as it may not come with all the features they would like or may turn out to be incompatible with their vehicle or child's seat. We suggest that you purchase an infant stroller that can be purchased separately from the capsule or car seat if you want to upgrade to a more advanced model in the near future.
Stroller Folding
The best 3-wheel strollers that are compact are easy to fold and to store. Some of them lock automatically when you open them. This feature is particularly useful for families who frequently take public transport or drive to go on a walk.
Three-wheeled strollers are able to maneuver easily in tight spaces, like grocery store aisles or other crowded areas. They are often equipped with suspension systems that provide a smoother ride, which is particularly useful on bumpy sidewalks.
The Guava Roam is a light stroller that can be used for jogging. It's elegant and can also be used as part of a travel system, with adapters for car seats to fit Nuna MaxiCosi, Cybex, and Nuna infant carseats, and the Uppababy Bassinet. (Car seats and stroller boards sold separately). The stroller comes with simple two-step fold, and locks into place once opened.
The Babyzen Yoyo 2 is another stylish 3-wheeled jogging stroller that looks nice. It's more expensive than our top picks, but it's worth the investment for those who love to travel or reside in the city. The lightweight stroller can be folded down to a tiny 20 17x7 inch size. It comes with a five-point, no-rethread, padding on the harness. It can even be used as a pram for newborns or young toddlers (with an infant car seat adapter).
While the Babyzen comes with some nice features, such as a roomy recline and extra storage, some parents have been disappointed with its performance. The seat doesn't lie flat when it is reclining and there aren't cup holders or snack tray for children. The brakes can also be a little difficult to engage and the handlebars are too high for some moms.
The Graco Fastaction is another stroller that's designed to be as light as is possible without sacrificing the comfort or convenience. It has a long list of features that are impressive including a large basket and a one-handed fold. The only issue is that the brakes can be difficult to activate and don't stay locked when the stroller is folded.
Stroller Safety
The safety features of a stroller should ensure that your child is safe using it. Some of the top-scoring products in our review have a five-point harness with padded, adjustable crotch straps that allow for a customized fit. Some strollers come with a padded cushion that protects your child's head should they fall off or roll out of their seat. Some strollers feature a safety brake that locks two wheels, which is particularly important for strollers that jog as it stops them from slipping when they're going up and down stairs or escalators, where they can be especially risky for children.
In our tests the maneuverability of strollers was evaluated in three distinct ways. We rated it based on a product's ability to turn and bounce when bumps or dips are encountered and its comfort with a child on it and its capacity to traverse rough terrain. We also evaluated the ease of being able to open and close the safety harness, fold and unfold the stroller, adjust the backrest the height of the handlebar, operate the brakes, and attach and remove car seats (if applicable).
We found that 3-wheel strollers were easier to maneuver, but the advantage decreased as the weight of the baby increased. We recommend choosing one with a hand brake. It will allow you to slow down or stop without putting in the same amount of effort as your body on its own. Many of the top-scoring, swivel-wheel strollers don't have this feature. Only one of our top-rated fixed wheel strollers comes with it.
It is also important to think about how often you will have to take your stroller on an escalator or a set of stairs. an escalator and whether or not it will be safe to do so with the stroller still in position. Stairs and elevators are more risky because they contain moving mechanical parts which make it difficult to control your stroller. If you are able choose to, we suggest using an elevator or having another adult assist you with the stroller. Some of the most highly-rated strollers can be pushed up a set of stairs or an escalator with their security brake locked and engaged however it's better to be safer than sorry.
