Herein, we report cobalt-aluminum-layered double hydroxide quantum dots (LDH-QDs) deposited with nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) as a bifunctional separator for lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). The mesoporous LDH-QDs/NG hybrids possess abundant active sites of Co2+ and hydroxide groups, which result in capturing LiPSs through strong chemical interactions and accelerating the redox kinetics of the conversion reaction, as confirmed through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, adsorption tests, Li2S nucleation tests, and electrokinetic analyses of the LiPS conversion. The resulting LDH-QDs/NG hybrid-coated polypropylene (LDH-QDs/NG/PP) separator, with an average thickness of ∼17 μm, has a high ionic conductivity of 2.67 mS cm-1. Consequently, the LSB cells with the LDH-QDs/NG/PP separator can deliver a high discharge capacity of 1227.48 mAh g-1 at 0.1C along with a low capacity decay rate of 0.041% per cycle over 1200 cycles at 1.0C.
Kidney transplantation (KT) is the optimal treatment for children with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of PKT and of pretransplant dialysis duration on graft survival among French pediatric kidney transplant recipients.

We analyzed all first pediatric kidney-only transplantations performed in France between 1993 and 2012. A Cox multivariable model was used to investigate the association of PKT and pretransplant dialysis time with the hazard of graft failure defined as death, return to dialysis or retransplant, whichever occurred first.

1911 patients were included, of which 380 (19.8%) received a PKT. Median time of follow-up was 7.0 years. PKT was associated with a 55% reduction of the hazard of graft failure at any time after KT compared to patients transplanted after dialysis (HR 0.45; 95%CI 0.33-0.62), after adjustment for recipient sex and age, primary kidney disease, donor age and type (living or deceased donor), number of HLA mismatches, cold ischemia time and year of transplantation. A reduction of the hazard of graft failure was found in PKT whatever the compared duration of dialysis, even when less than 6 months and whatever the dialysis modality. Results were similar in multiple sensitivity analyses.

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak on excess in-hospital mortality among patients who visited emergency departments (EDs) and to assess whether the excess mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic varies by community income level.

This is a cross-sectional study using the National Emergency Department Information System (NEDIS) database in Korea. The study population was defined as patients who visited all 402 EDs with medical conditions other than injuries between January 27 and May 31, 2020 (after-COVID) and for the corresponding time period in 2019 (before-COVID). The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. The main exposure was the COVID-19 outbreak, and the interaction variable was county per capita income tax. We calculated the risk-adjusted in-hospital mortality rates by COVID-19 outbreak, as well as the difference-in-difference of risk-adjusted rates between the before-COVID and after-COVID groups according to the county income tax using a multilevel linear regression model with the interaction term.
