The β-annulus fused RBD protein increased residence in lymph nodes and triggered the most potent viral neutralization in immunization by a recombinant protein. Results of the study support the use of a nanoscaffolding platform using the β-annulus peptide for vaccine design. This study uses dynamic hyperpolarized [1-13C]pyruvate magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) to estimate differences in glycolytic metabolism between highly metastatic (4T1, n = 7) and metastatically dormant (4T07, n = 7) murine breast cancer models. Reversine in vivo The apparent conversion rate of pyruvate-to-lactate (kPL) and lactate-to-pyruvate area-under-the-curve ratio (AUCL/P) were estimated from the metabolite images and compared with biochemical metabolic measures and immunohistochemistry (IHC). A non-significant trend of increasing kPL (p = 0.17) and AUCL/P (p = 0.11) from 4T07 to 4T1 tumors was observed. No significant differences in tumor IHC lactate dehydrogenase-A (LDHA), monocarboxylate transporter-1 (MCT1), cluster of differentiation 31 (CD31), and hypoxia inducible factor-α (HIF-1α), tumor lactate-dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, or blood lactate or glucose levels were found between the two tumor lines. However, AUCL/P was significantly correlated with tumor LDH activity (ρspearman = 0.621, p = 0.027) and blood glucose levels (ρspearman = -0.474, p = 0.042). kPL displayed a similar, non-significant trend for LDH activity (ρspearman = 0.480, p = 0.114) and blood glucose levels (ρspearman = -0.414, p = 0.088). Neither kPL nor AUCL/P were significantly correlated with blood lactate levels or tumor LDHA or MCT1. The significant positive correlation between AUCL/P and tumor LDH activity indicates the potential of AUCL/P as a biomarker of glycolytic metabolism in breast cancer models. However, the lack of a significant difference between in vivo tumor metabolism for the two models suggest similar pyruvate-to-lactate conversion despite differing metastatic potential.Polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) metabolism and tissue distribution is modulated by the oxidation of these molecules. This research aimed to investigate the implication of dietary n-3 PUFA supplementation (precursor and long-chain PUFA) on the PUFA profile and oxidative status of the liver, testis, and brain of adult rabbit bucks. Twenty New Zealand White rabbit bucks were divided into four experimental groups (n = 5 per group) and were fed different diets for 110 days control (CNT), standard diet containing 50 mg/kg alpha-tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E); CNT+, standard diet + 200 mg/kg vitamin E; FLAX, standard diet + 10% flaxseed + 200 mg/kg vitamin E; or FISH, standard diet + 3.5% fish oil + 200 mg/kg vitamin E. Antioxidants (enzymatic and non-enzymatic), oxidative status (malondialdehyde and isoprostanoids), and n-3 and n-6 PUFAs of tissues were analysed. A chain mechanism of oxidant/antioxidant molecules, which largely depended on the particular PUFA composition, was delineated in the different organs. The liver showed an oxidant/antioxidant profile and lipid pathways widely modulated by PUFA and vitamin E administration; on the other hand, the testis' oxidative profile rather than its lipid profile seemed to be particularly affected, an outcome opposite to that of the brain (modulation operated by dietary PUFA).The cornea, while appearing to be simple tissue, is actually an extremely complex structure. In order for it to retain its biomechanical and optical properties, perfect organization of its cells is essential. Proper regeneration is especially important after injuries and in the course of various diseases. Eph receptors and ephrin are mainly responsible for the proper organization of tissues as well as cell migration and communication. In this review, we present the current state of knowledge on the role of Eph and ephrins in corneal physiology and diseases, in particular, we focused on the functions of the epithelium and endothelium. Since the role of Eph and ephrins in the angiogenesis process has been well established, we also analyzed their influence on conditions with corneal neovascularization. The objectives of the present study were to determine the influence of thermal and non-thermal processing procedures on in vitro ileal disappearance (IVID) of dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) in chicken meat as dog foods using 2-step in vitro assays. In thermal processing experiments, IVID of DM and CP in chicken meat thermally processed at 70, 90, and 121 °C, respectively, with increasing processing time was determined. For non-thermal processing experiments, IVID of DM and CP in chicken meat processed by high-pressure, ultraviolet-light emitting diode (UV-LED), electron-beam, and gamma-ray was determined. Thermal processing of chicken meat at 70, 90, and 121 °C resulted in decreased IVID of CP (p less then 0.05) as heating time increased. In non-thermal processing experiment, IVID of CP in chicken meat was not affected by high-pressure processing or UV-LED radiation. In vitro ileal disappearance of CP in electron-beam- or gamma-ray-irradiated chicken meat was not affected by the irradiation intensity. Taken together, ileal protein digestibility of chicken meat for dogs is decreased by thermal processing, but is minimally affected by non-thermal processing methods.Hyperuricemia is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and chronic kidney disease progression. IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a well-known primary glomerular nephropathy. Hyperuricemia is associated with a poor prognosis in IgAN patients. We evaluated the association of hyperuricemia with the histopathological severity of IgAN in male and female patients; 658 patients diagnosed with IgAN via kidney biopsy were initially included. Baseline patient data were collected by eight university hospitals affiliated with the College of Medicine of the Catholic University of Korea. Pathological features were independently evaluated by eight expert pathologists working in the hospitals, and the consensus was reached. Of the initial 658 patients, 517 were finally included (253 males and 264 females). Hyperuricemia was defined as a serum uric acid (UA) level >7.0 mg/dL for males and >5.6 mg/dL for females; 108 (42.7%) males and 95 (35.9%) females exhibited hyperuricemia. Compared to the patients with normal UA levels, the global glomerulosclerosis, segmental sclerosis, mesangial matrix expansion (MME), endocapillary proliferation (ECP), interstitial fibrosis (IF), and tubular atrophy (TA) scores were higher in hyperuricemic males and females. In multivariable linear regression, the serum UA level correlated significantly with the MME, ECP, IF, and TA scores of female IgAN patients only. The histopathologic diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa) from biopsies is a current challenge if double or triple staining is needed. Therefore, there is an urgent need for development of a new reliable biomarker to diagnose PCa patients. We aimed to explore and compare the expression of TMTC4 in PCa cells and tissue specimens and evaluate its sensitivity and specificity. The expression of TMTC4 in PCa and normal prostate epithelial cells was determined by real-time PCR and Western blot analyses. Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining of TMTC4 was performed on tissues collected from PCa and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Our results show a high expression of TMTC4 on mRNA and protein levels in PCa versus BPH1 and normal cells (p less then 0.05). IHC results show strong cytoplasmic expressions in PCa cases (p less then 0.001) as compared to BPH cases. The overall accuracy as measured by the AUC was 1.0 (p less then 0.001). The sensitivity and specificity of the protein were 100% and 96.6%, respectively. Taken together, we report a high TMTC4 expression in PCa cells and tissues and its ability to differentiate between PCa and BPH with high sensitivity and specificity. This finding can be carried over to clinical practice after its confirmation by further studies. The optimal digestible (d) Valine (Val) to d Lysine (Lys) ratio (dValdLys) in weaned piglets was determined using two different regression models. A total of 200 piglets were allotted to five feeding groups and fed a corn-soybean meal based basal diet supplemented with consecutive increasing amounts of crystalline L-valine in order to reach dValdLys of 0.59, 0.63, 0.67, 0.71, 0.75 in the pre-starter (0-13 days) and 0.57, 0.62, 0.66, 0.70, 0.75 in the starter phase (13-43 days). In the starter phase and during the whole period, supplementing the basal diet with L-valine resulted in an improvement in body weight gain and feed intake. An exponential asymptotic (EA) and a curvilinear-plateau (CLP) regression model were fit to feed intake and body weight gain data. The estimated dValdLys for body weight gain was found to be 0.68 (EA, 95% of maximum response) and 0.67 (CLP) in the starter phase and 0.65 (EA, 95% of maximum response and CLP) in the total trial period. It is concluded that the supplementation of a valine-deficient basal diet for weaned piglets with L-valine improves the piglet's weight gain and feed intake and that a dValdLys of 0.68 is recommended to optimize body weight gain. The aim of this research was to investigate the antistress effect of press tack needle (PTN) acupuncture treatment using rats with social isolation stress (SIS). Rats were divided into non-stress group (Grouped+sham), stress group (SIS+sham), and PTN-treated SIS group (SIS+PTN). Rats in the SIS+PTN and SIS+sham groups were housed alone for eight days. For the SIS+PTN group, a PTN (length, 0.3 or 1.2 mm) was fixed on the GV20 acupoint on day 7. We measured stress behavior based on the time the rats showed aggressive behavior and the levels of plasma corticosterone and orexin A on day 8. In addition, the orexin-1 receptor or orexin-2 receptor antagonist was administered to rats that were exposed to SIS. The duration of aggressive behavior was significantly prolonged in the SIS+sham group, and the prolonged duration was inhibited in the SIS+PTN (1.2 mm) group. The levels of plasma corticosterone and orexin A were significantly increased in the SIS+sham group; however, these increases were inhibited in the SIS+PTN group. The aggressive behavior was significantly reduced after the orexin-2 receptor antagonist was administered. These findings suggest that PTN treatment at GV20 may have an antistress effect, and the control of orexin is a mechanism underlying this phenomenon.
to investigate the factors implied in the development of postoperative complications in both self-expandable and balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valves by means of finite element analysis (FEA).

FEA was integrated into CT scans to investigate two cases of postoperative device failure for valve thrombosis after the successful implantation of a CoreValve and a Sapien 3 valve. Data were then compared with two patients who had undergone uncomplicated transcatheter heart valve replacement (TAVR) with the same types of valves.

Computational biomechanical modeling showed calcifications persisting after device expansion, not visible on the CT scan. These calcifications determined geometrical distortion and elliptical deformation of the valve predisposing to hemodynamic disturbances and potential thrombosis. Increased regional stress was also identified in correspondence to the areas of distortion with the associated paravalvular leak.

the use of FEA as an adjunct to preoperative imaging might assist patient selection and procedure planning as well as help in the detection and prevention of TAVR complications.
