It is well known that patients with diabetes are at increased risk of influenza infection and its serious complications. Our aim was to evaluate the attitude towards and prevalence of influenza vaccination among Saudi patients with diabetes.

Descriptive questionnaire-based cross-sectional survey of a sample of patients with diabetes attending a specialist diabetic centre in the Ministry of Health Hospital in Taif city in Saudi Arabia. We utilized a generalized logistic regression model analysis to evaluate the effect of background factors on influenza vaccine uptake.

The study included (
= 336) patients with diabetes. The prevalence of uptake of influenza vaccine was 43.5% (CI 38.2% to 48.8%). Adjusted analysis of background effects revealed that uptake of influenza vaccine was improved with age, university education, and belief in the dangerousness of flu infection in patients with diabetes. Factors that deterred from the uptake of flu vaccines were longer in DM duration, getting health messages abourch into preventative measures among patients with diabetes should evaluate the effect of educational interventions using robust methodology. The outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has triggered changes and reforms in the health sector in India. As the pandemic points to a gap in the industry, it has led to the creation of new opportunities to solve problems. To help the country repair the damage caused by the virus pandemic, the Government of India announced that in the health budget 2021, promotion of health and well-being will be one of the six pillars. Investment in health infrastructure in the 2021 budget has increased significantly to welcome the much-needed increase in budget allocations of Rs. 2.3 lakh crore. Three areas will also be strengthened, including preventive health care and therapeutic health care. Special emphasis is placed on prevention, treatment, and health care. To promote primary health care, the country will establish 17,000 rural and 11,000 urban health care centers. Provision of affordable quality medical insurance will be provided by the government. The integrated and collaborative model of the public and private sectors in the provision of health services has led to a rapid expansion of work. This is an attempt to demonstrate the planned reforms in the health budget, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The budget of 2022-23 is about to be announced soon. It is to be seen how the financial allocation for the health sector impacts the health of the Indian people.
Family physicians (FPs) encounter numerous patients who need eye care services. For providing eye care services at the primary level, they need to be abreast with the common disorders, their management and appropriate referral.

The aim of this study was to describe the socio-demographic and ocular morbidity profile of the beneficiaries, seasonal pattern of few ocular disorders and to find the proportion of blindness that is avoidable at the primary level.

Study was conducted in 25 vision centers across Delhi. Chart review was done in each center and retrospective data of previous 4 years was analyzed. Socio-demographic, ocular morbidity profile and trend of selected diseases was deducted and causes of blindness were determined.

Around 62.76% of patients were women and 78.26% were new patients. A seasonal peak of conjunctivitis was observed during the spring season. The common conditions detected by optometrists were refractive errors (34.68%), presbyopia (14.15%), cataract (14.02%), conjunctivitis (9.84%) and diseases of ocular adnexa (1.35%). In the age group ≥50 years, the proportion of patients who were blind was 2.5%, 39.0% had VI. The proportion of VI patients in all the categories was higher in women as compared to men. In patients ages ≥50 years, 81.4% of the blindness was avoidable.

Women outnumbered men in availing services at the center and the proportion of visual impairment was also higher in them. The major causes of blindness in the older population were cataract and corneal-opacity, and it is avoidable by strengthening primary eye care services by FPs.

Presbyopia is a major cause for near visual impairment among adults. Presbyopia induced visual impairment can be corrected easily by spectacles. We aimed to study the prevalence of presbyopia among adults aged ≥35 years and spectacles coverage among them. selleckchem We also studied the unmet need for presbyopia along with the barriers to uptake of services.

This is a population-based cross-sectional study conducted among adults aged ≥35 years in a rural district of Haryana. Near vision assessment and semistructured interview schedule were administered by a team of trained ophthalmic assistant, social worker and health assistant.

A total of 3832 adults aged ≥35 years were enumerated, from which 3246 (84.7%) were examined. Prevalence of presbyopia was found to be 42.9% (95% confidence interval 41.2-44.6). Participants with increasing age, literacy and women had higher prevalence, and those that were employed and belonged to below poverty line economic status had lower prevalence of presbyopia. Spectacles coverage among presbyopes was found to be 25.8%. There was an inverse association between unmet need for presbyopia and women, increasing education status and office work. Lack of felt need and personal reasons were the most common barriers for unmet need due to presbyopia.

There is high prevalence of presbyopia among adult population, with spectacles coverage being low. Awareness activities along with affordable, accessible and socially acceptable services for those affected with presbyopia would be one of the key components of management.

The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical features of patients attending the screening clinic of a dedicated COVID-19 hospital (DCH), including COVID-19 RT-PCR test positivity rate, symptom predictors for COVID-19 positivity, the proportion of recovery, and the mortality among COVID-19 positive cases.

We conducted a cross-sectional study of the patients who reported in the screening clinic of a DCH. Data were retrieved from medical records. Step-wise binary logistic regression was applied to determine the symptom predictors for determining the likelihood of the suspects turning out to be COVID-19 positive.

A total of 573 patients reported to the screening clinic were enrolled, and their median age was 36 ± 14 years. Of the total patients, 237 (41%) were females and 112 (20%) patients were COVID-19 suspects. Fifty (45%) suspects tested COVID-19 positive. The majority of the positives had complaints of cough, fever, and sore throat. Running nose (OR = 7.951) and history of contact with a COVID-19-isolation to break the chain of transmission. The public should be encouraged to undergo COVID-19 testing if they develop any of the URI symptoms.
With ever-increasing digitization, the internet has intertwined into the daily lives of users to a large extent. It holds tremendous educational benefits to college students; however, its excessive usage can lead to addiction and even psychological morbidities.

To determine the prevalence of internet addiction and its association with various factors including depression, anxiety, and stress.

A cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate students of two professional colleges, i.e., medical and engineering colleges in the Jammu region. A pre-tested, semi-structured questionnaire was used to elicit the information regarding socio-demographic and personal details of students. Young's internet addiction scale was used to assess internet addiction, whereas the DASS 42 scale was used to measure depression, anxiety, and stress. Data thus collected were analyzed using the PSPP software.

A total of 480 students constituted the study population. The prevalence of internet addiction was found to be 78.7%, with a significantly higher prevalence seen among the male students in comparison to females (
< 0.005). A significantly positive correlation of internet addiction was found with depression, anxiety, and stress.

Internet addiction is significantly associated with psychopathology among the respondents. In this context, there is an urgent need to develop effective strategies for the prevention of internet addiction by promoting awareness among the students.

World Health Organization (WHO) has declared COVID-19 outbreak as a "public health emergency of international concern" on January 31, 2020. After that the epidemic spread rapidly around the world. Chronic non-communicable diseases were identified as risk factors for SARS-CoV-2. Hypertension (HTN) is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases with a prevalence ranging from 10% to 20% among adult population. After COVID-19 outbreak, identification of risk factors for severe or fatal disease is necessary to allocate limited resources. For primary care physicians, this is of vital importance to know the association between hypertension and severe and fatal COVID-19 infection as hypertension is affecting millions of people all over the world and primary health care is of immense importance in a country like India. Duration of stay in hospital which will be taken as proxy measure of duration of illness, symptomatic status, need of ICU care and death will be taken as indicators of severe and fatal COVID-19 inf COVID-like illnesses. Special attention is to be given as far as treatment and early referral to higher centre with ICU is concerned for better outcome. Hypertensive patients should be protected more by adopting COVID appropriate behaviour.
It is concluded from this study that hypertension is associated with severe and fatal COVID-19 infection. It gives a clear idea for primary care physicians to give more focus towards patients with hypertension with COVID-19 infection. Blood pressure monitoring should be strictly practiced during COVID-like illnesses. Special attention is to be given as far as treatment and early referral to higher centre with ICU is concerned for better outcome. Hypertensive patients should be protected more by adopting COVID appropriate behaviour.Serious infection with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is associated with high risk in infants, children, and elderly. There is currently no approved vaccine against RSV infection, and the only available prevention is immunoprophylaxis utilized in high-risk infants, leaving the elderly without many options. In the elderly, the chronic low-grade inflammatory state of the body can play a significant role during infection. The cotton rat and mouse have emerged as the preferred small animal models to study RSV infection in the elderly. These animal models of aging have shown an age-dependent time course for clearance of virus correlating with a significantly diminished cytotoxic T lymphocyte and humoral immune response in old animals compared to adult animals. In addition, protection through vaccination is reduced in aging rodents. These results mirror the findings in humans. In mice and cotton rats, treatment with ibuprofen, a nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), to decrease the chronic low-grade inflammation of the elderly immune system has proven successful in restoring the function of cytotoxic lymphocytes.
