Choosing a 3 Wheel Double Stroller
It's one the best side-by-side strollers we tested, offering smooth riding on rough terrain, and effortless turning in tight spaces. It's a great jogger and folds easily thanks to the self-standing feature.
However, it comes with double-action brakes that require release of two pedals, and isn't able to take infant car seats. That could be a deal-breaker for some parents.
Safety Features
For those who plan to take strolls or jogs, double strollers with three wheels offer greater stability than four-wheel strollers. This is due to the fact that they have two wheels in the ground at all times, while some four-wheel strollers allow one wheel to rise off the ground when navigating the edges of curbs or other obstacles. Three-wheelers are heavier than four-wheelers, and this can be a problem if weight is an issue.
Some 3-wheel strollers have pneumatic (air-filled) tires, which are an excellent choice for those who plan to run and want an easier ride than the hard plastic wheels that are found on some models. However, they do require regular maintenance and air pressure checks (as well as a tire and pump repair kit) because they are more susceptible to losing air than their solid-tire counterparts. The recommended pressures are available in your stroller's manual or manufacturer's site.
Strollers with adjustable handlebars can help prevent arm, neck and back strain for the person driving them. The best posture for your arms is close to your belly button, with your elbows slightly bowed and your hands relaxed. A front swivel lockable wheel can be useful for bumpy or uneven surfaces.
A good brake is essential and you must test the brake on your stroller's parking regularly to ensure it engages quickly and easily. Also, consider whether the stroller comes with an open window or an adjustable seat. Both of these options are great for parents with infants or toddlers who need to rest while walking around.
The most effective jogging strollers come with an adjustable track, which assists to keep the front wheel straight while jogging. It eliminates chronic veering, and also reduces the need to adjust your own posture while running.
It's important to check that the folded dimensions of double strollers will fit in your home or trunk before buying. You should also check the stroller's weight as well as shipping & handling charges which can increase quickly. Take into consideration any additional features that you might need or avoid, such as snack trays and speakers built into the stroller that can make the stroller heavier, less aerodynamic and pose a risk to children.
Maneuverability
One of the most important aspects to consider when choosing the right stroller is how easy it is to move around. Unfortunately, most double strollers have a harder to turn and maneuver through tight spaces than their single-seat counterparts because of their weight, size and the additional passengers. 3 wheeled pushchair can be a problem especially if you're trying to navigate through busy streets or grocery stores while carrying children.
While some of our favorite strollers -- like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double -- are incredibly easy to push, others struggle due to their flexing frames or wide wheels. These double strollers are often heavier than other double strollers. This makes them harder to transport and lift when not in use.
There are plenty of strollers with great maneuverability, without spending a fortune. The double kit from phil&teds allows you to transform your jogging buggy into an inline double stroller that is compatible with a car seat for infants. It's an excellent option for families growing and those with limited space.
Other models that are great for walking on narrow sidewalks include the Baby Jogger City Mini Quad and the Graco SnugRide 30 Elite Double Stroller. The latter comes with a cargo basket built in which will keep you organized on your walks.
Another stroller that can be maneuvered is the Jeep Destination Double Side x Side Ultralight. It is a light everyday stroller that is easy to fold and set up. We love that it's compact when folded and comes with storage bags. Plus, it's compatible with a variety of infant car seats -- including the popular Graco SnugRide 40 Elite Double -- with the purchase of an adapter (sold separately).
Check out the UPPAbaby vista double v2 if need of a stroller that can grow with your family. This unique product is designed to function as double stroller and bike trailer which allows you to enjoy outdoor activities with two kids simultaneously. It's also compatible with several infant car seats, such as the Nuna and Maxi-Cosi however, it requires an extra adapter, which must be purchased separately.
Comfort
You'll want to feel comfortable when walking with your children for long periods of time. A quality double stroller will offer a smooth ride, support both seats with adjustable five-point safety harnesses and provide plenty of storage space for toys and snacks.
A padded handle makes pushing easier. A swivel wheel in the front is useful, especially for joggers, to maneuver around curbs or narrow spaces. Also, the ability to lock the front swivel wheels for more comfort is perfect to take your family for a long stroll or jog.
Another key feature to look for in double strollers is an intuitive folding operation that can be accomplished using just one hand. The UPPAbaby Vista double v2, Evenflo Pivot Xplore Wagon, and Joovy Zoom X2 Double all have the best folding systems in our tests.
During our testing we looked at a variety of seating configurations that could be used to meet the requirements and desires of different families. The Vista Double model from UPPAbaby was our top pick for this feature because it can accommodate twins in separate infant car seats, as well as a third rider by incorporating a riding board. This model also offers the quickest and easiest assembly in our test group, taking only 15 minutes from start to finish.
The storage capacity in the majority of double strollers we tried is adequate, however some are more accessible than others. The UPPAbaby Vista Double and Joovy Caboose Ultralight Graphite have large, easy-to-access baskets that can accommodate up to 30 lbs. The Evenflo Pivot Xplore has a large storage bin, whereas the Joovy Caboose Ultralight has smaller storage bins that is difficult to access since it is located under the rear seat that slides.
A 3 wheel double stroller will be a great option for parents who enjoy taking their kids on walks or jogging. These strollers come with locking and swivelling front wheels for greater mobility and also have a reclining seat and ratcheting shade canopy to keep your children at ease. 3 wheeled pushchair have convenient parent trays with cup holders, as well as a simple-to-access storage basket that can be used to store essentials for your outing.
Storage
A good double stroller will provide ample storage space for you, your children's drinks and snacks, and any other items you might need. However, the amount of storage varies widely across models. Some models, for instance the Joovy Caboose Ultralight Graphite, the lightest stroller we've tested, and the brand new Summer Infant 3D Pac CSwith double stroller, come with only two cup holders for parents, along with hanging bags of storage at the back of each seat. Some, like the UPPAbaby Vista Double or Joovy ScooterX2, have large baskets with easy access.
The best double-strollers also have features like an extendable canopy as well as reclined seats that let you adjust your child's ride in accordance with weather conditions or mood. A lot of strollers are compatible with car seats which means you can start using them immediately and then add the glider board or child seat if your family grows.
Compact 4-wheel strollers have been designed to be light, easy to fold, store, and move. They are perfect for parents who want to use their strollers to run around town, or for quick trips to the parks. 3 wheeled pushchair are generally less expensive than jogging strollers but they may not have certain features and space you need when you plan to engage in longer outdoor activities with your children.
The Baby Jogger City Select Double Stroller is among the most well-loved compact double strollers on the market, as it starts out small and folds up easily to fit in trunks and closets, making it simple to store and remove at a moment's notice. It comes in a variety colors and is able to be customized to fit infants up to 25 pounds. It's Disney-approved so you can bring it on vacation!
