Buying a Double Buggy 3 Wheels
This buggy is able to be used as a single or double. It has 17 configurations to accommodate children from infants to toddlers and even a third when using the iCandy 'piggyback' board. It's also among the slimmest double strollers and fits through doors like a single pushchair.
It's a compact and light stroller that has an easy to use fold that can be done one-handed. It's also suitable for a variety of terrains and comes with a handy shopping bag.
Adaptability
There are a variety of factors to think about when purchasing a double stroller. You'll need to ensure your children are comfortable and safe as you travel new sights and routes. You should also take into consideration the price as well as the size, weight and the durability. Selecting a reputable brand (within the budget) will increase the chances of resales and make the purchase process easier.
There are two types of double buggies that have three wheels, based on how many children you will be carrying: side-by-side and front-facing. Side-by-side buggies are slimmer than front-facing designs but tend to have a larger footprint. However there are a few super-smart models available that are able to keep their dimensions down like the Mountain Buggy Duet. This is the slimmest buggy on the market. It can even fit through narrow doors.
Tandem buggies are usually larger. They start as a single stroller but can be adjusted by adapters to accommodate a second seat, or carrycot. Some tandem buggies can take twins, a baby and toddler or a child and newborn thanks to their clever seating configurations. The UPPAbaby Vista 2 can be transformed into a triple with the addition of the optional 'Piggy Back Board'.
The iCandy Orange is another super-smart tandem buggy with a unique 'cinema ' seating design that allows the rear seat to be raised or lowered to different positions so that you can alter how your children sit in it. This lets you choose between 30 different seating arrangements. It is ideal for parents with young children at different developmental stages.
3 wheeled pushchair is the phil&teds sport. This world-first, multi award winning buggy will future proof your budget by acting as a brilliant single from day dot and then adapting to take two (or three!) As your family expands, you can utilize the same footprint as one buggy. The sling seat is the key to this. It's ideal for newborns and offers superior stability, maneuverability and kerb-pop.
Manoeuvrability
In general, double pushchairs with 3 wheels are easier to maneuver and manage than double pushchairs with four wheels. The front wheels are smaller and less broad which results in being lighter in weight. They are able to be moved more easily and are also much easier to move around kerbs.
One of the best examples is the Mountain Buggy Duet. It is the thinnest side-byside buggy available and has a footprint the same as one buggy. This makes it ideal for parents worried about fitting through doorways or in public transport. It can be used as early as birth, since it can fit twins or two carrycots/car seats.
Another option is the UPPAbaby Vista 2. It's a light buggy that's ideal for city life, but also able to ride on uneven or rough terrain. It can be used for twins, or even toddlers and babies due to its large rear wheels and four-wheel suspension. 3 wheel buggy means it can be carried and lifted easily too. The only drawback is that it's a bit harder to handle on uneven ground as compared to other models.
Comfort
If you plan to take your buggy out for long walks or jogs it's worth spending more on one that can handle the rough terrain. Choose a model with three wheels with large rear wheels that can take the bumps and a suspension system to absorb shocks. The front wheels should be fixed to provide more control on difficult terrain and make it easier to push around corners.
Double buggys that work for two children will give you the flexibility to adjust the seats so that both children can be comfortable. The most comfortable double buggys come with adjustable footrests and reclining seats for older children. There's plenty of room to store your groceries, keys, and phone.
Another thing to look out for is a smooth fold mechanism. Our Lab experts prefer models with straps under the seats to pull the buggy apart or a lever that opens an opening and folds the frame into half within a matter of a few minutes. Certain models can be folded with the seats removed, which makes them smaller when not in use.
The Mountain Buggy Duet is an award-winning side-by-side that offers the best flexibility for twins or siblings. The clever frame can be expanded to accommodate a second seat (or carrycot) and yet has the same footprint as a single buggy which means it can be pushed through doorways and on public transport. It's a bit heavier than some other models but its smooth ride and effortless handling makes more up for it.
iCandy's Orange Convertible is another popular side-by-side that offers a huge 30 seating configurations to fit all needs. It's an excellent choice for twins as the seats can be parent-facing and convert into an a tandem pushchair that has an extra seat/carrycot at the middle.
The Joie Evalite Duo is a lightweight three-wheel option that's ideal for daily use. It's not quite as large or expensive as other models, but its fixed front wheel and narrow turning radius make it more difficult to navigate up and down kerbs. It's simple to push and can be used as a running buggy by including a separate child carrier.
Safety
The phil&teds sports can be used to accommodate two children in a variety of ways. From toddler to infant, with their car seat adapters or a twin kit. They can even take care of three kids if you buy their piggyback boards separately (around PS120). It is particularly safe because of its dual front swivels, superior maneuverability, and the convenient footbrake. Additionally, the tray that it sits on is bigger than most lightweight double buggies and the canopy has windows that peek out to improve visibility.
This multi-award winning side-by-side is the tiniest, full-featured all-terrain double buggy available on the market. Its footprint is similar to a single buggy, so it fits easily through doorways and on public transport. Its suspension is able to handle rough terrain with ease and our Lab experts love the fact that it folds into a compact form in a matter of minutes. 3 wheeled pushchair comes with a hand brake on the adjustable handlebar for added security. The seats can be reversible, so you can choose to have the children facing forward or the parents facing each other - great for siblings and twins of different ages.
