No significant difference was observed in the mean iris thickness between genders (temporal
= 1.597,
= 0.112; nasal
= 1.870,
= 0.063), but females had a thicker iris than males at 50 points in the temporal side and 49 points in the nasal side (
< 0.05); no point in males was observed to have thicker iris compared to females.
Using SS-OCT and the novel method, thicknesses of the iris at different regions were measured. The thicknesses of the peripheral and pupillary irises increase with age, while the thicknesses of the middle part decrease.

The government launched an innovative program called Health Extension Program to increase the coverage of primary health care services, mainly by producing model households using model-family training. The aim of this study was to evaluate the intestinal parasite infection in low and high coverage of graduated households. Method. A community-based crosssectional study was conducted from February to June, 2019. A total of 478 participants were enrolled in this study by using a multistage sampling technique. Data were collected by using pretested and semistructured questionnaire. Five grams of stool specimen was collected, and samples were processed using a direct wet mount and Kato Katz technique. Data were coded, entered, and cleaned using statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 20. A Chi-square test was employed to compare the two groups. P value lesstion package are crucial in the implementation of the HEP to decrease the prevalence of IPIs especially in LCGHH districts.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a kind of common neurodegenerative disease in the world. Previous studies have proved that nervonic acid (NA), extracted from
Bunge, has the potentials of neuroprotection. Selleckchem ABR-238901 However, the effect of NA on the PD remained unknown. This study was designed to investigate the NA's potential function and relative mechanism on motor disorder.
1-Methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) was used for producing parkinsonism motor disorder on male C57BL/6 mice. Toxicity experiments and behavioral assay were performed to evaluate the effect of NA. Besides, the expression levels of tyrosine hydroxylase and α-synuclein, as well as striatal dopamine (DA), serotonin, and their metabolites were explored through immunoblotting and chromatography after NA treatment
.
We found that NA could alleviate the MPTP-induced behavioral deficits dose-dependently. Moreover, NA has no toxic effects on the mouse liver and kidney. Of note, we found that NA significantly reduced the impact of MPTP impairment and striatal DA, serotonin, and metabolites were remained unaffected. In addition, tyrosine hydroxylase was upregulated while α-synuclein being downregulated and the oxidative stress was partially repressed evidenced by the upregulation of superoxide dismutase and glutathione activity after NA treatment.
Our findings unveil NA's potential for protecting motor system against motor disorder in the PD mouse model without any side effects, indicating NA as an alternative strategy for PD symptom remission.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has caused a profound change in the teaching pedagogies and assessment strategies in engineering curricula worldwide. Concerning this, the article examines the role of animation-enhanced concept-in-context maps as a learning resource for the introductory materials science course in an online flipped format. The research was conducted on second-year mechanical engineering undergraduates. The methodology used two-group quasi-experimental design where the experimental group received animated concept-in-context maps as a learning resource, in contrast to the control group, which obtained static concept-in-context maps. The student's understanding of the topic was evaluated from their performance in pre-quiz and post-quiz scores. The preliminary results of the pilot study turned out to be in favor of animation-assisted mapping; further research is in process, and in-depth experimentation has been planned.
[This corrects the article DOI 10.1093/nc/niab011.].Nidovirales, which accommodates viruses with the largest RNA genomes, includes the notorious coronaviruses; however, the evolutionary route for nidoviruses is not well understood. We have characterized a positive-sense (+) single-stranded (ss) RNA mycovirus, Rhizoctonia solani hypovirus 2 (RsHV2), from the phytopathogenic fungus Rhizoctonia solani. RsHV2 has the largest RNA genome size of 22,219 nucleotides, excluding the poly(A) tail, in all known mycoviruses, and contains two open reading frames (ORF1 and ORF2). ORF1 encodes a protein of 2,009 amino acid (aa) that includes a conserved helicase domain belonging to helicase superfamily I (SFI). In contrast, ORF2 encodes a polyprotein of 4459 aa containing the hallmark genes of hypoviruses. The latter includes a helicase belonging to SFII. Following phylogenetic analysis, the ORF1-encoded helicase (Hel1) unexpectedly clustered in an independent evolutionary branch together with nidovirus helicases, including coronaviruses, and bacteria helicases. Thus, Hel1 presence indicates the occurrence of horizontal gene transfer between viruses and bacteria. These findings also suggest that RsHV2 is most likely a recombinant arising between hypoviruses and nidoviruses.Double synonyms in the genetic code can be used as a tool to test competing hypotheses regarding ambigrammatic narnavirus genomes. Applying the analysis to recent observations of Culex narnavirus 1 and Zhejiang mosquito virus 3 ambigrammatic viruses indicates that the open reading frame on the complementary strand of the segment coding for RNA-dependent RNA polymerase does not code for a functional protein. Culex narnavirus 1 has been shown to possess a second segment, also ambigrammatic, termed 'Robin'. We find a comparable segment for Zhejiang mosquito virus 3, a moderately diverged relative of Culex narnavirus 1. Our analysis of Robin polymorphisms suggests that its reverse open reading frame also does not code for a functional protein. We make a hypothesis about its role.Exposure to acute versus chronic stressors and threats activates the immune system in adaptive and maladaptive manners, respectively. While acute activation of the immune system in response to threat is homeostatically regulated by glucocorticoid negative feedback, chronic activation of the immune system arising from persistent stress exposure can contribute to an allostatic load with an inflammatory diathesis that has been implicated in stress-related psychopathology, including of depression and anxiety. Increased inflammation in the periphery and in the brain arising from chronic stress exposure can alter neurotransmitter metabolism and impact activation of brain regions to increase adverse behavioral health symptoms (e.g. anhedonia, anxiety, fatigue) and emotion dysregulation. While interventions targeting the immune system and its downstream effects on the brain for the treatment of depression and other psychiatric disorders has been of great interest as they have shown some efficacy in treating stress-related behavioral health disorders, future studies are necessary to better characterize the contexts under which anti-inflammatory agents should be used to treat stress-related psychopathology.Athletes in team sports have to quickly visually perceive actions of opponents and teammates while executing their own movements. These continuous actions are performed under time pressure and may contribute to a non-contact ACL injury. However, ACL injury screening and prevention programmes are primarily based on standardised movements in a predictable environment. The sports environment provides much greater cognitive demand because athletes must attend their attention to numerous external stimuli and inhibit impulsive actions. Any deficit or delay in attentional processing may contribute to an inability to correct potential errors in complex coordination, resulting in knee positions that increase the ACL injury risk. In this viewpoint, we advocate that ACL injury screening should include the sports specific neurocognitive demands.
The primary objective was to examine the attitudes of professional footballers towards help-seeking behaviours related to mental health symptoms and the impact of a mental health awareness video on these help-seeking behaviours. The secondary objective was to evaluate whether the mental health awareness video was feasible in professional football.
A quasi-experimental study based on a one-group pretest post-test was conducted using a questionnaire. Attitude, help-seeking behaviours and confidence were measured with validated questionnaires, including the Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help-Short Form (ATSPPH-SF) and General Help-Seeking Questionnaire (GHSQ).
Sixty-five professional footballers (63% men; 37% women) were enrolled in the study. The mean ATSPPH-SF score was 18.1 at pretest and 19.4 at post-test (p=0.00). The mean GHSQ score was 47.6 at pretest and 48.9 at post-test (p=0.00). The level of confidence in helping someone experiencing mental health symptoms was 11.1 at pretehealth symptoms in professional football.Physical activity and exercise in pregnancy are generally beneficial and enhance the physical and mental health of women. These benefits also prevent excessive weight gain and reduce risks of obesity in pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders, higher rates of caesarean delivery, macrosomia and stillbirth. Thus, there is a need to optimise perinatal exercise and physical activity globally. There is currently no consensus recommendation on the role of physical activity and exercise in pregnancy and the postpartum period in the Asia-Pacific region. In this paper, we present seven key consensus recommendations on physical activity and exercise in pregnancy and the postpartum period by 18 key members representing 10 countries in Asia-Pacific regions during an international workshop of the Asia Diabetes in Pregnancy Conference in Singapore on 11-12 January 2020. Through these consensus recommendations, we hope to improve the metabolic health of pregnant women living in Asia-Pacific regions by educating the public and guiding healthcare professionals on the safety and importance of physical exercise and activity to benefit pregnant women and after childbirth.
Central nervous system (CNS) tumors pose a substantial health problem. Although data on specific time periods and regions of Africa have been previously reported, no study has yet to provide a systematic review of CNS tumors for the entire continent of Africa. This study aims to analyze the frequency of CNS tumors in Africa from 1960 to 2017.
A comprehensive literature search on CNS tumors in Africa was performed using multiple online scientific databases. The following keywords were queried in combination with the phrase "CNS tumors in Africa" incidence, frequency, epidemiology, prevalence, brain, and cancer. A total of 26 articles met the inclusion criteria. Each selected article reported incidence and mortality rates from different regions of Africa in a time period between 1960 and 2017. SPSS21 statistical software was used to analyze the data.
Nigeria, Egypt, and Uganda were found to have the most of the cases of CNS tumors in Africa. Males made up 54% of the 5902 cases per 100 000 population. The most common CNS tumors found were astrocytoma (24.
