Perspective This study suggests that pain severity and interference are associated with increased use of non-medical prescription opioids, sedatives, and tobacco and decreased use of alcohol, in ways that are different between women and men. Findings may guide the development of gender-sensitive evidence-based strategies to ameliorate or prevent substance misuse among patients living with pain.
Eastern Europe and Central Asia have intertwined HIV and incarceration epidemics, concentrated in people who inject drugs. Moldova is one of the few countries in this region that offers methadone within prisons, but uptake and post-release retention remains suboptimal. Screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) procedures are a potential implementation strategy to address this problem.

From June 1, 2017 to March 3, 2018, we conducted a 2-stage SBIRT strategy in nine prisons and four pre-trial detention facilities in Moldova among incarcerated persons with opioid use disorder (OUD; N=121) and within 90 days of release. Survey results were analyzed to evaluate the effect of the SBIRT strategy on the uptake of and post-release retention on methadone maintenance treatment (MMT).

Among the 121 screened with OUD, 27 were on MMT at baseline within the prison and this number increased to 41 after the two-step SBIRT intervention, reflecting a 51.9% increase over baseline. Eleven (78.6%) of myths and misinformation is needed to further scale-up OAT in Moldova.
To assess the early changes produced in the choriocapillaris (CC) and choroidal vasculature using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) in patients with persistent central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) as predictors of the efficacy after photodynamic therapy (PDT).

Prospective observational study in 52 eyes of 52 patients with persistent subretinal fluid (SRF). SS-OCTA scans of the 6×6mm macular region were assessed before; 2-3 days, one month and three months after half-fluence PDT. Vessel occlusion in the CC and choroid was measured as flow signal voids (FSV).

A 3.67±4.12 and 2.76±3.63 fold increase in CC and CH FSV, due to vessel occlusion, was observed at 2-3 days after PDT versus baseline. There was less SRF at 3 months in patients with an increase in FSV (≥1-fold) compared to those without this increase (<1-fold) after PDT (p≤0.003). An association between the increase in CC and choroidal FSV at the early control (2-3 days) and the height of SRF at 1 month was found (R=-0.405; p=0.002 and R=-0.356; p=0.008 respectively). In a multivariate model, the SRF at one month was not associated with age, gender, visual acuity, or FSV (p≥0.288). At 3 months, flow restoration was achieved in the choroid versus the baseline (p=0.619), but there was a persistent increase in the CC FSV (p=0.008).

Biological sounds corresponded to predators of N. granulata (fish and crustacean stimuli), while anthropogenic ones belonged to motorboat passages (boat stimulus). However, BPA effects on neuroendocrine regulation of reproduction to affect testicular functions are largely unknown. In the present study, reproductive functions of hypothalamus and pituitary were studied in mature male goldfish exposed to nominal 0.2, 2.0 and 20.0 μg/L BPA. At 90 d of exposure, sperm volume, velocity, and density and motility were decreased in goldfish exposed to 0.2, 2.0, and 20.0 μg/L BPA, respectively (p less then 0.05). At 30 d of exposure, there were no significant changes in circulatory LH levels and mRNA transcripts of kiss1, Kiss2, gpr54, and gnrh3. At 90 d of exposure, circulatory LH levels showed trends toward increases in BPA exposed goldfish, which was significant in those exposed to 2.0 μg/L (P less then 0.05). At this time, Kiss2, gpr54, and gnrh3 mRNA levels were increased in goldfish exposed to any concentrations of BPA (p less then 0.05). This study shows that BPA-diminished sperm quality was accompanied by an increase in circulatory LH levels associated with increases in mRNA transcripts of upstream neuroendocrine regulators of reproduction in goldfish. Further, this is the first study to report circulatory levels of LH in fish exposed to BPA.
Investigate potential factors associated with non-visualisation of tubal patency during Hysterosalpingo-Foam-Sonography (HyFoSy).

This retrospective study was carried out at the medically assisted procreation centre of the University Hospital Centre in Reunion Island and focuses on HyFoSy performed between 01/01/2018 and 31/12/2020. We aimed to compare HyFoSy with bilateral tubal patency and those with a passage defect. Factors associated with non-visualisation of the contrast medium were investigated using comparison tests and logistic regression. Explanatory variables were patient history and ultrasound characteristics.

137 eligible HyFoSy were included, of which 70.8% could be established for bilateral tubal patency. The assessment of tubal patency decreased in cases of overweight/obesity (62.5% versus 47.4%), previous pelvic surgery (17.5% versus 10.3%) and deep endometriosis (12.5% versus 5.2%), without significant difference. In the logistic regression model, a trend towards significance was observed for body mass index ≥ 25kg/m² (OR 2.01 [95% CI 0.93-4.35], p= 0.07).

The dog was previously treated for ocular onchocercosis associated with the right eye 10 years earlier. Ophthalmic examination at presentation revealed irregular, tan-colored, masses on the sclera of both eyes. Otoscopic evaluation of the left ear was limited because the canals were stenotic and inaccessible. Cytology did not reveal any infectious etiologies and the dog was subsequently treated with an anti-inflammatory dose of prednisone for 10 days. Two weeks later the dog developed a mild dysphonia and stridor that eventually progressed to include difficulty breathing. The dog was euthanized and postmortem examination revealed white-to-tan nodules identified in the episclera, trachea, subcutis around the nares, external ear canals, and within the fascia overlying the temporalis muscle, as well as in the parietal pleura, and pericardium.
