02,95%CI1.01-1.03), lower urinary catheter (OR=0.37,95%CI0.26-0.48) and lower Pitt score (OR=0.76,95%CI0.71-0.82). Adjusted estimations considering patients' features and exposure to procedures showed a reduction in coagulase-negative staphyloccoci (OR=0.47;95%CI0.32-0.69); and an increase in Proteus spp. (OR=3.12;95%CI1.18-8.23) and Candida spp. (OR=3.01;95%CI1.03-8.86). Conclusions We found relevant epidemiological changes in BSI in our area, including rates, frequency of acquisition types, changes in patient's profiles and in etiological agents.Myocarditis is a serious complication of varicella zoster virus infection. A 15 year-old boy was admitted to the Emergency Department for chest pain, tachycardia and hypotension. An electrocardiogram showed sinus tachyicardia. Cardiac biomarkers were elevated and echocardiography revealed left ventricular apical, inferolateral, septal hypokinesis, and mitral regurgitation. Varicella zoster virus serum immunoglobulin M antibody was positive. The patient was discharged without any sequelae.Reconstructing haplotypes from sequencing data is one of the major challenges in genetics. Haplotypes play a crucial role in many analyses, including genome-wide association studies and population genetics. Haplotype reconstruction becomes more difficult for higher numbers of homologous chromosomes, as it is often the case for polyploid plants. This complexity is compounded further by higher heterozygosity, which denotes the frequent presence of variants between haplotypes. We have designed Ranbow, a new tool for haplotype reconstruction of polyploid genome from short read sequencing data. Ranbow integrates all types of small variants in bi- and multi-allelic sites to reconstruct haplotypes. To evaluate Ranbow and currently available competing methods on real data, we have created and released a real gold standard dataset from sweet potato sequencing data. Our evaluations on real and simulated data clearly show Ranbow's superior performance in terms of accuracy, haplotype length, memory usage, and running time. Specifically, Ranbow is one order of magnitude faster than the next best method. The efficiency and accuracy of Ranbow makes whole genome haplotype reconstruction of complex genome with higher ploidy feasible.Research on plastics fragmentation is important for the estimation of amount of microplastics but the biological causes for fragmentation have not been acknowledged. From microplastics collected in the beaches of Hong Kong, we revealed an abnormal type of fragment which has not been reported before. These fragments, composing about 6% of the microplastics (pellet, foam, bead, fragment) collected, were interestingly triangular in shape with at least two of the three sides being characteristically straight and resembling a cut made by compression. Objective observations have distinguished these "trimmed triangular fragments" to those triangular fragments that were fractured randomly. By comparing with additional evidence, we proposed that these trimmed fragments were the daughter pieces of macrofaunal biting. If this was so, there would be wide implications on fragmentation modeling studies for microplastics since active biting of large plastic debris has generally not been considered as a factor of plastics fragmentation.Locomotion of earthworm-like metameric robots results from shape changes of deformable segments. Morphologically, the segments could stretch, contract or bend by changing their states. Periodic shape changes are recognized as gaits of the robots. Robots could employ different gaits for different locomotion tasks. However, earthworm-like robots generally possess a number of independent segments and their hyper-redundant morphology poses a challenge to gait planning for their locomotion. Hence, the goal of this paper is to establish a framework of in-plane gait planning for earthworm-like robots. To this end, a generic model of earthworm-like robots modelled in our prior work is firstly reviewed and in-plane gaits of the robot are parameterized by adopting the principle of retrograde peristaltic wave. Following this, gaits of earthworm-like robots could be uniquely determined by gait parameters, and gait planning of the robots is then reduced to optimizing the gait parameters. The framework mainly consists of a locomotion simulation module and a genetic algorithm module. In the locomotion simulation, the performance of each gait would be evaluated, and then gait parameters get evolved based on the fitness in the genetic algorithm module. To evaluate the fitness of each gait, two objective functions, i.e., the distance to goals and the number of locomotion steps the earthworm-like robot taken before reaching the goals, are to be minimized in the optimization. Besides, two stopping criteria are proposed to improve the efficiency of evaluation. The framework proposed in the paper could plan in-plane gaits of earthworm-like robots, in contrast, only rectilinear locomotion is considered in similar works. This greatly advances the state of art of earthworm-like robots. The female predominance in the prevalence of depression is partially accounted by reactivity to hormonal fluctuations. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a reproductive subtype of depression characterized by cyclic emotional and somatic symptoms that recur before menstruation. Despite the growing understanding that most psychiatric disorders arise from dysfunctions in distributed brain circuits, the brain's functional connectome and its network properties of segregation and integration were not investigated in PMDD. To this end, we examined the brain's functional network organization in PMDD using graph theoretical analysis. 24 drug naïve women with PMDD and 27 controls without premenstrual symptoms underwent 2 resting-state fMRI scans, during the mid-follicular and late-luteal menstrual cycle phases. Functional connectivity MRI, graph theory metrics and levels of sex hormones were computed during each menstrual phase. Altered network topology was found in PMDD across symptomatic and remitted stages in major graph metrics (characteristic path length, clustering coefficient, transitivity, local and global efficiency, centrality), indicating decreased functional network segregation and increased functional network integration. In addition, PMDD patients exhibited hypoconnectivity of the anterior temporal lobe and hyperconnectivity of the basal ganglia and thalamus, across menstrual phases. Furthermore, the relationship between difficulties in emotion regulation and PMDD was mediated by specific patterns of functional connectivity, including connections of the striatum, thalamus and prefrontal cortex. The shifts in the functional connectome and its topology in PMDD may suggest trait vulnerability markers of the disorder. The ASGE's GIE Editorial Board reviewed original endoscopy-related articles published during 2019 in GIE and 10 other leading medical and gastroenterology journals. Votes from each individual member were tallied to identify a consensus list of 10 topic areas of major advances in GI endoscopy. Individual board members summarized important findings published in these 10 areas of disinfection, artificial intelligence, bariatric endoscopy, adenoma detection, polypectomy, novel imaging, Barrett's esophagus, third space endoscopy, interventional EUS, and training. This document summarizes these "Top 10" endoscopic advances of 2019.Diclofenac is an FDA approved drug used in the treatment and management of acute and chronic pain associated with inflammatory conditions, especially those involving the musculoskeletal system. These include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. selleckchem Topically, it can treat actinic keratosis. Diclofenac is also FDA approved for ophthalmic administration for the extraction of cataracts, pain in the eye, and photophobia. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and, although it can help to manage the symptoms of pain during inflammatory processes, it cannot reverse or prevent chronic joint damage seen with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Diclofenac was synthesized in 1973 and is the most widely prescribed NSAID worldwide.Deferoxamine (DFO) is FDA approved to treat iron overload, either acute or chronic. The definition of iron overload is serial ferritin levels above 800 to 3000 ng/mL . The FDA has not approved DFO as first-line therapy for hereditary hemochromatosis unless there is a contraindication to phlebotomy. Clinicians can also use DFO is also used as an off-label treatment for aluminum toxicity in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. An aneurysm is an abnormal dilatation or bulging in a blood vessel due to the intrinsic weakness of the vessel wall. Aneurysms can affect any blood vessel, but they are most commonly seen in arteries rather than veins. An aneurysm can be a true aneurysm or false aneurysm. A true aneurysm has all the three layers of the arterial wall (intima, media, and adventitia). A false aneurysm, also known as pseudoaneurysm, involves the outer layer of the artery (adventitia). Depending on their shape, they can be saccular or fusiform. Cerebral aneurysms are 90% saccular aneurysms (also known as berry aneurysms), unlike aortic aneurysms, which are about 94% fusiform. Aneurysms can be classified based on their location in the body. Depending on the etiology can be dissecting or mycotic aneurysms. This review will focus on saccular cerebral and aortic aneurysms. Saccular cerebral aneurysms can also be classified by size (small 5 mm or less, medium 6 to 14 mm, large 15 to 25 mm, giant greater than 25 mm). Most cerebral aneurysms are asymptomatic and small, and they are found incidentally during brain imaging or during an autopsy. About 85% of cerebral aneurysms are located in the anterior circulation at the arterial bifurcations on the circle of Willis and the middle cerebral artery bifurcation. Most of the saccular aortic aneurysms are located in the descending thoracic aorta.Ataxia is the absence of voluntary muscle coordination and loss of control of movement that affects gait stability, eye movement, and speech. Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) is an inherited (autosomal dominant), progressive, neurodegenerative, and heterogeneous disease that mainly affects the cerebellum. SCA is a subset of hereditary cerebellar ataxia and is a rare disease. To date, more than 40 distinct genetic SCAs have been identified which are classified according to the genetic loci in order of identification. SCA1 was the first SCA described and then further subtypes are identified sequentially. SCA doesn't compulsorily mean that it is restricted to the cerebellum and spinal cord. It may involve the other parts of the central nervous system as well, such as pontine nuclei, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, cortex, basal ganglia, etc. SCA6 is restricted to the cerebellum whereas SCA2 spares cerebellum. Well defined and common types are SCA1, SCA2, SCA3, and SCA6 which accounts for more than half of cases and other rare variants constitute the remaining cases. SCA is very complex to understand both genotypically and phenotypically and very difficult to describe all variants at one time.
