This study aims to evaluate the frequency of insomnia complaints in bariatric patients and to assess obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) predictors according to the presence or absence of chronic insomnia.

Insomnia was defined as the presence of at least one specific symptom difficulty falling asleep, difficulty maintaining sleep, and/or waking up earlier than expected. Diagnosis of OSA was objectively obtained from in-laboratory polysomnography. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess OSA predictors.

This cross-sectional study contains 1,737 bariatric surgery candidates 59.6% without insomnia and 40.4% with insomnia. OSA prevalence was similar among participants with or without insomnia either for any OSA (p = 0.168) or for moderate-to-severe OSA (p = 0.185). Patients without insomnia showed a higher prevalence of severe OSA than those with insomnia (p = 0.005). In both cohorts, five parameters were independent OSA predictors sex, age, body mass index (BMI), neck circumference (NC), and in bariatric individuals with or without insomnia. In the present study, humoral and T cell-mediated immune responses elicited by BBIBP-CorV (inactivated virus) and BNT162b2 (mRNA-based) vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 virus were compared. Convalescent volunteers were also investigated to evaluate adaptive immunity induced by live virus. Although both vaccines induced antibody- and T cell-mediated immune responses, our analysis revealed significant quantitative and qualitative differences between the two types of challenges. The BBIBP-CorV vaccine elicited antireceptor-binding domain (RBD) IgG, as well as anti-spike protein (S) IgG and IgA antibodies in healthy individuals, the levels of which were much lower than after BNT162b2 vaccination but still higher than in the convalescent patients. The cumulative IFNγ-positive T cell response, however, was only twofold higher in participants injected with BNT162b2 compared to those who were primed and boosted with BBIBP-CorV vaccine. Moreover, the inactivated virus vaccine induced T cell response that targets not only the S but also the nucleocapsid (N) and membrane (M) proteins, whereas the mRNA vaccine was able to elicit a much narrower response that targets the S protein epitopes only. Thus, the pattern of BBIBP-CorV-induced T cell response in virus-naive participants was similar to the cell-mediated anti-SARS-CoV-2 response observed in convalescent patients. Based on these data, we can conclude that the BBIBP-CorV inactivated virus vaccine is immunologically effective. However, the duration of BBIBP-CorV-induced integrated, antibody, and T cell-mediated, immune responses needs further investigation.Nectins are immunoglobulin-like cell adhesion molecules constituting a family with four members, nectin-1, nectin-2, nectin-3, and nectin-4. In the brain, nectin-2 as well as nectin-1 and nectin-3 are expressed whereas nectin-4 is hardly expressed. In the nervous system, physiological functions of nectin-1 and nectin-3, such as synapse formation, mossy fiber trajectory regulation, interneurite affinity, contextual fear memory formation, and stress-related mental disorders, have been revealed. Nectin-2 is ubiquitously expressed in non-neuronal tissues and various nectin-2 functions in non-nervous systems have been extensively investigated, but nectin-2 functions in the brain have not been revealed until recently. Recent findings have revealed that nectin-2 is expressed in the specific areas of the brain and plays important roles, such as homeostasis of astrocytes and neurons and the formation of synapses. Moreover, a single nucleotide polymorphism in the human NECTIN2 gene is associated with Alzheimer's disease. We here summarize recent progress in our understanding of nectin-2 functions in the brain.
We aimed to investigate the correlation between the color Doppler imaging (CDI) results and parameters determined by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in cases with pseudoexfoliation syndrome (XFS).

99 participants were included in this prospective study. Retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), ganglion cell complex (GCC), optic nerve head (ONH) measurements were recorded. Perfusions of the ophthalmic artery (OA) and central retinal artery (CRA) were determined and resistivity indices (RI) were calculated.

No statistically significant differences were determined between the groups regarding the RNFL and ONH parameters. Only the minimum GCC thickness value was determined to be reduced in XFS group (n = 49) when compared to the controls (n = 50) (p = 0.018). The OA-RI and CRA-RI values of XFS group were significantly higher than the control group (p < 0.001 and p = 0.001). In XFSs, negative correlations were present between OA-RI and the minimum, average, inferior and inferotemporal regions of GCC thickness (r = -0.448 p = 0.001, r = -0.275 p = 0.040, r = -0.295 p = 0.027, r = -0.304 p = 0.024, respectively), and also between CRA-RI and minimum GCC values (r = -0.317, p = 0.017). While a significant relationship was present between age and OA-RI and CRA-RI values in controls, no such correlation was present in XFSs.

The vascular resistance increased with age in controls, whereas it was independent of age in XFS group. In XFSs, RIs correlated significantly with certain GCC values, but not with RNFL and ONH parameters. It would be beneficial to follow the XFS with CDI as it provides supportive parameters to GCC in order to recognize early changes in XFS.

To present the 5-year outcomes obtained from the infantile cataract surgery in pediatric population.

Medical records of all patients with unilateral or bilateral infantile cataract who had undergone lensectomy and anterior vitrectomy with or without intraocular lens implantation before 10years of age were evaluated. Patients with any history of ocular trauma, retinal or corneal dystrophy, ocular or orbital surgery, retinopathy of prematurity, raised intraocular pressure at the time of diagnosis, or incomplete follow-up sessions were excluded from the research.

A total of 85 eyes belonged to 52 patients were analyzed. Bilateral and unilateral diseases were present in 33 (63.5%) and 19 (36.5%) patients, respectively. After performing the first operation, 43 (50.6%) eyes still remained aphakic. The mean corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) of the aphakic and pseudophakic eyes was estimated as 0.77 ± 0.52 and 0.43 ± 0.39 logMAR with no statistical difference. The age at the time of performing the cataract surgery was not associated with the final CDVA in either group. Complications in the anterior segment structures were noted in 39 (45%) eyes. link3 Strabismus and amblyopia were noted in 52 (61%) and 75 (88.2%) eyes, respectively. Glaucoma was found in 17 (20%) eyes with no correlation with the final CDVA, age at the time of cataract surgery, or the status of the lens.

Due to high prevalence rates of amblyopia, strabismus, and glaucoma after the infantile cataract surgery, specific attention should be paid to these complications in each follow-up examination.

It has been gradually recognized that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are important modulators in multiple malignancies. Here, we analyzed the function of circ_0075804 and explored its associated mechanism in regulating retinoblastoma (RB) progression.

Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and Western blot assay were utilized to measure RNA and protein expression, respectively. Cell proliferation was analyzed by Cell counting kit-8 (CCK8) assay and 5-Ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) assay. Cell apoptosis was assessed by flow cytometry. Cell migration and invasion abilities were analyzed by wound healing assay and transwell invasion assay. Dual-luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay were applied to verify intermolecular target relations. Xenograft tumor model was used to analyze the role of circ_0075804 in tumor growth in vivo.

Circ_0075804 expression was markedly up-regulated in RB tissues and cell lines. Circ_0075804 knockdown restrained the proliferation, migration and invasion whereas promoted the apoptosis of RB cells. Circ_0075804 acted as a molecular sponge for microRNA-138-5p (miR-138-5p), and circ_0075804 silencing-induced effects were partly reversed by miR-138-5p knockdown in RB cells. MiR-138-5p interacted with the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of paternally expressed 10 (PEG10). Circ_0075804 positively regulated PEG10 level by sponging miR-138-5p in RB cells. PEG10 overexpression largely overturned miR-138-5p overexpression-mediated effects in RB cells. Circ_0075804 knockdown blocked xenograft tumor growth in vivo.

Circ_0075804 promoted RB progression via miR-138-5p-dependent regulation of PEG10, which provided new insight in RB therapy.

To introduce a new method for estimation of the target intraocular pressure (TIOP) in naïve eyes with early primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using corneal hysteresis (CH) and corneal resistance factor (CRF).

A prospective quasi-experimental study was conducted on naïve 90 eyes of 45 patients who were newly diagnosed with early primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). They were compared to 72 eyes of 36 normal subjects. The TIOP was determined for each eye. The IOP Goldmann (IOPg), IOP corneal-compensated (IOPcc), CH and CRF were estimated by ocular response analyzer (ORA, Reichert) device. Measurements were taken for each patient prior to treatment and after 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12months of receiving medications; either monotherapy or combination therapy.

For all patients, there was a significant negative correlation (p < 0.05) between IOP, either IOPg or IOPcc, and CH, while a significant positive relationship (p < 0.05) existed between IOP and CRF. For patients with early POAG, the CH was significantly increased (p ≤ 0.
