50% were treated with RAI ablation. Further studies are needed to determine if these trends are also present regionally and to explore reasons for not adopting a less aggressive approach in this indolent tumor.Treatments for improving iron deficiency anemia are generally aimed at increasing oral iron intake and/or administration. Such treatments, however, have been unsuccessful in managing nutritional disorders, including anemia, in patients with masticatory dysfunction caused by impaired occlusion. Nevertheless, few studies have assessed the potential benefits of providing optimal occlusion in such cases. Here, we report a case involving a 53-year-old woman with iron deficiency anemia, wherein we attempted to facilitate efficient mastication by establishing functional occlusion with dental implant placement. The patient was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia and hospitalized for blood transfusion 2 years before she visited our dental clinic. At the first visit, her hemoglobin (Hb) and mean corpuscular volume values were low; sodium ferrous citrate administration and dietary guidance led to slight improvement. However, blood transfusions and iron supplementation had been ineffective over longer duration. After dental implant placement, her Hb and mean corpuscular volume values were restored and maintained for >4 years without medication. Through this report, we highlight an alternative, non-pharmacological treatment strategy for iron deficiency anemia.
Early clinical exposure (ECE) has been shown to improve clinical skills, but several factors limit its implementation.
To compare the use of simulation-based education (SCE) and ECE in improving respiratory care students' clinical skills in laboratory settings.
This experimental prospective study was conducted among respiratory care students at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Students from one batch were allocated to the ECE group, and students from another batch were allocated to the SCE group to concurrently undergo clinical training. On completion of the course, students completed the Clinical Learning Environment Inventory (CLEI), and their clinical practice course grades were evaluated.
A total of 72 students from the two batches completed the CLEI and clinical performance evaluation; 32 (45%) were female. The mean age was similar across both groups. Between the groups, there was no statistical difference in the mean clinical grade (95% CI) (ECE 167.29 [164.74-169.84], SCE 166.88 [164.12-169.65];
= 0.837) and the CLEI score (ECE 128.25 ± 3.9, SCE 123.08 ± 4.2;
= 0.381). Multivariable linear regression analyses revealed no significant difference in the clinical performance grades (β = -0.09; 95% CI -0.78-0.59;
= 0.788).
The study found no significant difference in the performance between ECE and SCE in laboratory settings, indicating that SCE is a viable alternative to ECE in RC clinical training. Studies with larger cohorts are required to corroborate this finding.

The triterpenes have been reported to possess a wide range of therapeutic applications including anti-viral properties. In this review, the recent studies (2010-2020) concerning the anti-viral activities of triterpenes have been summarized. The structure activity relationship studies have been described as well as brief biosynthesis of these triterpenes is discussed.This paper represents the first assessment of agent-induced hormetic dose responses in induced pluripotent stem cells and their derived cells. The hormetic dose responses were induced by a broad range of chemicals, including pharmaceuticals (eg, metformin), dietary supplements/extracts from medicinal plants (eg, curcumin), and endogenous agents (eg, melatonin). The paper assesses the mechanistic foundations of these induced hormetic dose responses, their therapeutic implications and comparison with hormetic responses in multiple adult and embryonic stem cells.Global stock markets react positively when different phases of human clinical trials on COVID-19 vaccines begin. The average abnormal stock return on the first day of the trials is both statistically and economically significant at 8.08 basis points. The increase in the average abnormal stock return is threefold higher for leading vaccine candidates. The positive reaction is more pronounced upon the start of phase III trials, and it is also stronger for vaccine candidates developed by the U.S. and China.This study estimates the financial costs imposed by political polarization among citizens on U.S. local governments during the COVID-19 pandemic. We measure local political polarization by using citizens' voting results in the presidential elections. We find local political polarization leads to higher offering yield of the bonds issued by the U.S. municipalities. The impact on borrowing costs is exaggerated by the number of pandemic cases in the local area, suggesting political polarization hinders the making and enforcement of government measures for the pandemic. Thymidine This study highlights the mechanisms through which financial markets and local political ideology jointly affect social welfare.
In patients with prostate cancer (PC) receiving prostate-specific membrane antigen- (PSMA-) targeted radioligand therapy (RLT), higher baseline standardized uptake values (SUVs) are linked to improved outcome. Thus, readers deciding on RLT must have certainty on the repeatability of PSMA uptake metrics. As such, we aimed to evaluate the test-retest repeatability of lesion uptake in a large cohort of patients imaged with
F-DCFPyL.
In this prospective, IRB-approved trial (NCT03793543), 21 patients with history of histologically proven PC underwent two
F-DCFPyL PET/CTs within 7 days (mean 3.7, range 1 to 7 days). Lesions in the bone, lymph nodes (LN), and other organs were manually segmented on both scans, and uptake parameters were assessed (maximum (SUV
) and mean (SUV
) SUVs), PSMA-tumor volume (PSMA-TV), and total lesion PSMA (TL-PSMA, defined as PSMA - TV × SUV
)). Repeatability was determined using Pearson's correlations, within-subject coefficient of variation (wCOV), and Bland-Altman analysis..Most studies on politico-ideological violence (PIV) recognize the importance of socio-political and economic grievances, but they rarely analyse them in depth. I argue that this is symptomatic of a tendency of depoliticization in radicalization research in the post 9/11 context and suggest that the study of PIV may benefit from putting greater emphasis on the element of grievance. A grievance-based analysis allows for critical and reflexive consideration of structural and systemic factors pertinent for engagement in PIV and may thereby contribute to demystifying and re-politicizing the current debate on PIV. I propose three 'ideal types' of grievances (racial, ethnic and religious; socio-economic; political), which may be locally or globally oriented or inspired, and suggest that a combination of those is likely to be present in most forms of PIV. I conclude with a few methodological reflections and potential implications for policymaking.Drug delivery systems can be engineered to enhance the localization of therapeutics in specific tissues in response to externally applied stimuli and/or local environmental changes. In recent decades, efforts to improve drug delivery techniques at both nano- and macroscale have led to a new era of therapeutic efficacy. Such technological advancements resulted in improved drug delivery systems regularly entering the clinical setting. However, these delivery innovations are unfortunately not always readily applied to newly developed technologies. One of these new and exciting technologies that has been overlooked by drug delivery scientists is prime editing. Prime editing is a novel genome editing technology that exhibits the plug-and-play capability of CRISPR/Cas9 editors while avoiding double-strand DNA breaks throughout the entire process. This article focuses on describing the potential advantages and disadvantages of selecting nanomedicine technologies along with prime editing capabilities for the delivery of cargo.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1055/a-1724-9569.][This corrects the article DOI 10.1055/a-1724-9569.].Pathogenic bacteria use various mechanisms to cause infections in the host. Bacterial pathogens express a wide range of molecules. Bacterial toxins have a poisonous substance created and secreted at the extracellular or intracellular level, making these bacteria pathogenic. Two common types of toxins, including exotoxins and endotoxins, have numerous modes of action. Toxin-antitoxin (TA) modules act on their bacterial cells during stressed conditions and help their remaining population survive. Cytolethal distending toxins (CDTs) are genetic, modulating the eukaryotic cell cycle and targeting the immune system of the host. This review discusses toxins and recent discoveries about the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of the TA system and CDTs in pathogenic bacteria.
This study aims to investigate the reliability of the Dräger Jaundice Meter JM-105 for the screening of neonatal jaundice in Malay neonates.
A cross-sectional study was conducted in a university hospital involving 130 jaundiced neonates requiring serum bilirubin determination from day 2 to day 7 of life.
The mean total serum bilirubin (TSB) was 232 μmol/L, whereas the mean transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) measured at the forehead and sternum were 222 μmol/L and 223 μmol/L, respectively. Further, TcB underestimates TSB with a mean difference of 10.10 μmol/L at the forehead and 9.27 μmol/L at the sternum. A positive linear relationship was observed between TSB with TcB forehead (
= 0.82) and TcB sternum (
= 0.80). A good discriminations ability was observed for both the TcB forehead (receiver operating characteristics [ROC] curve = 89.8%) and sternum (ROC curve = 89.7%) at a TSB level of 205 μmol/L. The sensitivity ranges from 84.4% to 85.3%, while the specificity ranges from 77.4% to 76.4%.
Our study demonstrates a strong linear relationship and good diagnostic accuracy of TcB values compared to TSB values. To conclude, TcB measured at the forehead or sternum is a good alternative as a non-invasive screening tool for non-severe hyperbilirubinemia in Malay neonates.

Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of death in Indonesia, causing a significant societal burden. This study aims to quantify the burden of cervical cancer in terms of years of life lost (YLL) and productivity cost to support the idea that cervical cancer has substantial economic implications.
Using an epidemiological approach on the prevalence data of 2018, the productivity cost and YLL were estimated by calculating the number of cervical cancer deaths, life expectancy, annual earnings and employment participation rate. Cervical cancer mortality data were obtained from the Global Cancer Observatory (GLOBOCAN) 2018, life expectancy for Indonesia from the WHO Life Tables (2019), and the annual earnings and participation rate of Indonesia were retrieved from the National Statistics Bureau (2018).
In 2018, there were 17,253 deaths due to cervical cancer in Indonesia, resulting in 246,350 YLL with a total productivity cost of Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)23,174 trillion. The age group of 50 years old-64 years old experienced the greatest loss of earnings (IDR12,149 trillion), followed by the 35 years old-49 years old (IDR8,944 trillion) and 20 years old-34 years old (IDR8,944 trillion) age groups.
