Bipolar Disorder (BD) is a chronic a multifactorial psychiatric illness that affects mood, cognition, and functioning. BD is associated with several psychiatric conditions as well clinical comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular diseases. The neurobiology of BD is complex and multifactorial and several systems have been implicated. Considering that the Renin Angiotensin System (RAS) plays an important role in cardiovascular diseases and that recently evidence has suggested its role in psychiatric disorders, the aim of the present study is to summarize and to discuss recent findings related to the modulation of RAS components in BD. A systematic search of the literature using the electronic databases MEDLINE and LILACS was conducted through March 2019. The search terms were "Bipolar Disorder"; "Renin Angiotensin System"; "Angiotensin 2"; "Angiotensin receptors"; "Angiotensin 1-7"; "ACE"; "ACE2"; "Mas Receptor". We included original studies assessing RAS in BD patients. Two hundred twenty-two citations were initially retrieved. Eleven studies were included in our systematic review. In the majority of studies (6 of 8), the ACE insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism did not differ between BD patients and controls. BD patients presented higher plasma renin activity in comparison with controls. The studies evaluating the RAS molecules in BD are very scarce and heterogeneous. The literature suggests a potential role of RAS in BD. Further studies are necessary to investigate this relationship. This is a 16 residues, short sequence peptide has ability to trosnform into micro/nanoparticle via self-assembly. However, it is still not clear that how this can bind with cell membrane to induce membrane leakage or delivering their cargo inside cell membrane. OBJECTIVE The main objective of this work was to understand behaviour of secondary structure conformation of peptide in solution and at lipid membrane interfaces and membrane permeability of synthetic ionic complementary peptide EAK-16. The corresponding secondary structure conformation was evaluated. METHODS We performed biophysical investigation to probe the interaction of synthesised ionic complementary peptide (EAK-16) with dimyristoylphospholcholine (DMPC) and dimyristoylphosphoserine (DMPS) membrane interfaces. The folding behaviours of EAK-16 were studied with Circular Dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. LY2835219 Membrane leakage with peptide was confirmed wnts along its previous drug delivery applications. Protein-nanoparticles association constant was in the range of 106-1010 M-1 and the quenching constant was determined as ~107 M-1. Ground state complexation between the protein and nanoparticles was predicted. Changes in polarity surrounding the Trp residue was not detected by synchronous and three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy. AgNPs caused a global change in the secondary and tertiary structure of the protein as revealed from far-UV and near-UV CD spectroscopy. Enthalpy driven complexation between the protein and nanoparticles indicates the involvement of hydrogen bonding and/or van der Waals interactions. Protein aggregation is associated with aging, as well as variety of diseases and leads to the cytotoxicity. These protein aggregate related diseases have been untreated so far. However, extensive attempts have been applied to develop anti-aggregating agents as possible approaches to overcome protein aggregation. Different types of substances have been reported to halt or decrease the formation of ordered protein aggregates both in vitro and in vivo, such as polyphenols and metal ions. OBJECTIVE In the present study the in vitro aggregation of human serum albumin (HSA) by using a reactive dicarbonyl glyoxal has been investigated, simultaneously an attempt has been done to inhibit the glyoxal (GO) induced aggregation of (HSA) by caffeic acid (CA). METHODS Different methods have been employed to investigate the process, fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism, cango red binding assay, thioflavin T dye binding, turbidimetric analysis, docking study and transmission electron microscopy. RESULTS Results have shown that elevated concentration of GO forms aggregates of HSA, and the activity of CA suggested the possibility of inhibiting the HSA aggregation at higher concentrations, and this compound was found to have an anti-aggregation property. CONCLUSION The present study explained that micro molar concentrations of CA inhibits the aggregation of HSA and showed pronounced anti-aggregation effect at increasing concentrations in the presence of GO which is elevated in diabetic and hyperglycaemia conditions. Methods This was a randomized clinical trial consisting of 80 metabolic syndrome patients, who were enrolled and randomly dichotomized into a modified alternate-day fasting diet or calorie restriction group for 4 months. We measured weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumstance (WC), waist-hip-ratio (WHR) and fat mass as primary outcomes and assessed high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and coagulation factors levels as secondary outcomes before and after intervention. link2 Results Compared to the calorie restriction diet, following a modified alternate-day fasting diet led to a greater reduction in body weight (kg) (-6.43 ± 4.34 vs -4.11 ± 4.27; P = 0.02), BMI (kg/m2) (-3.19 ± 2.90 vs -1.43 ± 2.72; P = 0.01), fat mass (kg) (-4.88 ± 2.09 vs -3.72 ± 2.43; P = 0.03), WC (cm) (-5.57 ± 5.64 vs -2.32 ± 5.95; P = 0.01) and WHR (-0.05 ± 0.06 vs -0.02 ± 0.07; P = 0.04). Furthermore, a greater change was found in hs-CRP levels (mg/L) (-2.06 ± 1.18 vs -0.97 ± 0.82; P = 0.03), prothrombin time (s) (1.41 ± 2.34 vs -0.41 ± 2.17; P 0.05). Conclusions These findings suggest that a modified alternate-day fasting diet can be a beneficial alternative for the management of body weight, fat mass and WC as well as hs-CRP and coagulation factors levels among metabolic syndrome patients.A novel magnetic Fe3O4@chitosan@taurine adsorbent (MCT) was prepared by surface modification of magnetic chitosan nano-composites with taurine-glutaraldehyde solution. link3 The adsorbents were characterized by FTIR, SEM, TEM, XRD, TGA and VSM techniques, respectively. According to the FTIR spectrum of MCT, the characteristic peaks of the SO3-group on MCT were observed to have a shift after adsorption of the cationic dye, which indicates that there may be electrostatic attraction between the MCT and the cationic dye. Moreover, the saturation magnetization of MCT was found to be 20.797 emu g-1, suggesting that MCT has sufficient magnetic response to meet the need of magnetic separation. The adsorption properties of cationic dyes by MCT were further investigated by using methylene blue (MB) as a representative. The adsorption behaviour of MB by MCT was well described by the pseudo-second order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of MB calculated from the Langmuir model fitting was 204.1 mg g-1 at pH 5 and 384.6 mg g-1 at pH 9, respectively, and the adsorption equilibrium could be reached within 10 min. Besides, the negative values of ΔG° and ΔH° suggested that the adsorption process was spontaneous and exothermic, and the good reusability indicated that MCT could act as a recyclable adsorbent for dye adsorption. All of these results illustrate that MCT has great potential for practical application in removal of cationic dyes from aqueous solutions.BACKGROUND Apart from eccentric exercises (EE), isometric exercises (ISO) might be a treatment option for Achilles tendinopathy. Shear wave elastography (SWE) provides information for diagnosis and for monitoring tissue elasticity, which is altered in symptomatic tendons. HYPOTHESIS Isometric exercises will have a beneficial effect on patients' outcome scores. Based on SWE, insertional and midportion tendon parts will differ in their elastic properties according to current symptoms. STUDY DESIGN Randomized clinical trial. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 2. METHODS Group 1 (EE; n = 20; 12 males, 8 females; mean age, 52 ± 8.98 years) and group 2 (EE + ISO; n = 22; 15 males, 7 females; mean age, 47 ± 15.11 years) performed exercises for 3 months. Measurement points were before exercises were initiated as well as after 1 and 3 months using the Victorian Institute of Sports Assessment-Achilles (VISA-A) score, American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society score, and SWE (insertion and midportion). RESULTS Both groups improved tendon have to be taken into consideration when rating a tendon as pathologic. Background Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is the electron transporter in oxidative phosphorylation and an endogenous antioxidant. Recent researches have indicated that doses of 200-300 mg/day are needed to recognize effects to prevent oxidative damage in athletes, and the reduced form of CoQ10, ubiquinol-10, is more bioavailable than its oxidized form. Therefore, we hypothesized that higher doses of ubiquinol-10 could elevate plasma CoQ10 levels rapidly and exert physiological benefits in athletes. Therefore, a placebo controlled, double blinded test was carried out to determine the effects of ubiquinol-10 on the extravasate enzymes and fatigue levels of distance runners. Methods Sixteen male collegiate distance runners were allocated to two groups receiving 300 mg/day of ubiquinol-10 (19.8 ± 1.7 years) or a placebo (20.1 ± 1.6 years) for 12 days during summer training that comprised 25- and 40-km runs on days 7 and 9, respectively. Results Ubiquinol-10 elevated plasma CoQ10 concentration to 5.62 μg/mL and significantly decreased activities of the serum extravasate enzymes, CK, ALT, LDH (P less then 0.01), and AST (P less then 0.05) on day 6. Subjective fatigue status was significantly elevated on day 10 (the day after the 45-km run) in the placebo group (P less then 0.001), but did not significantly change in the group given ubiquinol-10. Therefore, ubiquinol-10 could mitigate tissue damage and alleviate fatigue status in distance runners during summer training. Conclusions Ubiquinol-10 (300 mg/day) supplementation elevated plasma CoQ10 concentrations almost to plateau levels, decreased extravasate enzymes within six days, and suppressed the subjective fatigue in male distance runners.
